Leaving the Grump at Home, Beach Club here I Come!, Link to TR 10/1 Post 198

Day 1 sounds great and hurrah for free flights! Isn't it so cool to be able to pop into Epcot for a slushie and fireworks!?! No bus, monorail, boat needed! Soooo easy peasy. I'm warning you...you may get attached to that entrance! And it is even better on the way out when most are heading to the buses after Illuminations. :upsidedow

Great plans! The park sure does clear out. We went one year in the afternoon when we first arrived and it was dead (and this was spring break week!). We did one of the last safaris and saw many animals. In fact, I would say that it was our best one until this summer...in the rain...who knew?? They told us at the rope that the animals love the rain and they were right as it was hands down the absolute best safari we've ever had. So, go, even if it rains!!

What a nice first day! I'm with you - I will get up early without complaint if I'm heading to WDW! Free flights? Yup, that's a good thing! :thumbsup2

We will be hitting AK on our first day this next trip too. I think it does empty out more after the parade. All those people who say it's a 1/2 day park can't do much else after that I guess.

I'm totally in Michelle! I know what's it's like to be married to a Disney Grump so am so excited you are getting another trip! :thumbsup2 Your first day plans sounds great.

Depending on what time Illuminations is scheduled you could swim and then hop over for you slush and fireworks from the bridge...
It's just too easy to use that entrance not to take full advantage!

Are you thinking you will use the path to get to the Studios on the day you plan to go there? We enjoy that walk early in the morning and the depending on how we are feeling at the end of the day take the boat or walk back...

I'm here! SInce I am so behind on all my DIS reading, not too sure how much I will be able to comment, but I'm here!:thumbsup2

Fun, fun, fun first day plans! Arriving and then heading off to Animal Kingdom sounds lovely. I will be watching closely to see if AK is indeed empty after the parade so I can store that knowledge away.

Don't forget to add getting a drink at the Dawa Bar to your list. :thumbsup2

Sounds like a fabulous 1st day :thumbsup2 I am looking forward to trying a Grey Goose slushie for the first time in August :cool1:

I love the GG slushie! Very refreshing when it's hot too :thumbsup2

Sounds like a great first day!

For some reason, I really like starting my trip at AK. I actually really like the afternoon parade. It's one of my favs!

Yeah for EE followed by Y&Y. Have you tried the fried green beans? Heaven on a plate! :thumbsup2

You know my crew are not parade people, so I've never actually seen the afternoon parade. If all goes well we should be in the park in time to see it. Now getting Jared to stop and watch is another story.....

I haven't had the fried green beans at Y&Y, but I've had them other places and LOVE them. When we were looking at menus the other day Jared saw those fried green beans and he was excited, so you can bet we'll be trying them!

Great first day plans, Michelle. I love the idea of checking ini and then heading to the AK. I've heard that the park empties out after the parade. We loved Yak & Yeti when we were there in 2008 (I still haven't been able to get it back on our schedule.

I have a feeling you'll stay at the pool so that Jared has some pool time; you can always get a cocktail at the pool. :goodvibes

Yak & Yeti is a hard one to fit in the schedule unless you want to eat there for lunch. We haven't been since 2009.

I'm sure we will be tired after the early wake up call so I see us probably staying at the resort, but it will be so easy to pop into Epcot that I may not be able to resist!

Great day one plans. I think for most of us DISers that we have trouble sleeping the night before we leave for Disney!

I think going over to AK is a great idea. I noticed during our past trip how much the park clears out after 4 or so. I think that's a great strategy. Also, try to go to the last safari. We did, and we saw so many animals up in the cooler evening.

Those pineapple/cream cheese wontons look yummy-licious!

I usually have trouble sleeping before any trip. My mind is going 90 miles per hour and I can never seem to shut it off. It's always worse with a Disney trip though!

Keeping my figures crossed for an empty AK! We probably won't be able to catch the last safari since our ADR is at 5:45, but I'm thinking we will try around 5:00 and see what we get.

Those wontons are yummy-licious, like lick your plate good!

Ooo, those wontons look delicious! Great first day plans.

They are worth making a Y&Y ADR just for them! The rest of their food isn't bad either though ;)

Love your first day plans!

Thanks! I'm excited, one month from today :cool1:

I am sure I will get attached to that entrance! And I was just thinking about the ease to get to Epcot, hadn't really even thought about how nice it will be to avoid the crowds leaving at night! I may never want to stay anywhere else.......

That is what I keep hearing from people who have been there in the afternoon! I'm not anticipating that it will be as empty as Christmas morning was (it was almost eerie it was so dead that morning!), but I'm hoping for 15 minute or less waits :thumbsup2

Joining in! Your first day looks great. :dance3:

Hi Jen! So glad you are here!!

What a nice first day! I'm with you - I will get up early without complaint if I'm heading to WDW! Free flights? Yup, that's a good thing! :thumbsup2

I have a tendancy to use most of Don's SW points for flights to Orlando.....

I don't get the AK haters, I LOVE that park! I will admit though, in the hotter months when we start a day there, I usually need a break by mid-afternoon to get out of the heat, so we rarely stay until closing.

I'm totally in Michelle! I know what's it's like to be married to a Disney Grump so am so excited you are getting another trip! :thumbsup2 Your first day plans sounds great.

Hi Kelli! I know you suffer from the same affliction as I do :sad2: We need to get our men on a diet of pixie dust ;)

Depending on what time Illuminations is scheduled you could swim and then hop over for you slush and fireworks from the bridge...

Illuminations is at 9. I know it's going to be hard for me to not walk over for it since I'll be right there! I may end up going alone, we'll see...

I walked that path to DHS once and thought the walk wasn't bad at all. I'm sure we will do what you do, walk it in the morning and then take the boat back at the end of the day when we are all tuckered out :thumbsup2

I'm here! SInce I am so behind on all my DIS reading, not too sure how much I will be able to comment, but I'm here!:thumbsup2

Hey Ann! Thanks for coming over. I'm just now getting back in the swing of things on the DIS, stinks when real life gets in the way!

You know I'll report back to you! Probably that day on FB so keep your eyes open while I'm there :thumbsup2

Oh, yes, a Lost on Safari or other delicious cocktail will be consumed, if not on this day then on our next AK day! A trip would not be complete with a stop at the Dawa Bar, I'm still sad that we didn't have time to get to AK last October

Your first day sounds amazing!!! Starting off on a bang with EE...love it! :thumbsup2

Gotta get our thrill on early!

Finally caught up!!! Totally understand the hater ::yes::

My ExDH was such a hater, I just went without him. :rotfl2:
Now I don't have to hear the complainng. :lmao:

I love the ealy flight- You should be all checked in by 2pm and heading out to AK.

You will LOVE BC. I absolutely fell in LOVE (even though I stayed there before) with the BC. Being my DVC home makes it even better.

Yes AK empties out after the parade. The parade is really a fun one. You should at least be in ear shot of the music.

I like my hater too much to make him an Ex, I just have to live with this one big flaw ;)

The early flight would be even better if I could get direct for here, but no such luck...

So jealous of all of you that have the BC as your home!

I hear the music for the parade all the time because I have it on a CD, I've just never actually seen it. Hope to rectify that!

Great day 1 plans! Yes, DAK definitely seems to clear out later in the afternoon. You should have no problem doing the major attractions. :thumbsup2

Just wanted to join your TR. I will be staying at the Beach Club villas for Labor Day weekend. I am excited to read about your plans for your trip. I can't really get my DH to come to Disney with me very often so I am going with my sister. I have stayed at the Dolphin, but never at any other resort in the area, so I am super excited to stay at BCV. I have heard that the parks are not very crowded that weekend, what do you think?
