Housekeeping when I stay in a hotel. I know this sounds weird but it is not that hard to keep up a condo on vacation and I prefer that no one enter my room. I have had things turn up missing in the past namely a gold ring, and a few other things which I did not realize until I went to look for them. We stay in a Sheraton with a safe but just the same I really do not like strangers in my hotel room when I am gone. As for towels etc we just throw them in the washer and drier and make our own bed. Is it just me?

Nope, we stay in our timeshare and do not have housekeeping. That is fine with us. As you say, make the bed, towels with the laundry, trash down the chute as we leave in the AM.

When we stay in a condo (which is more and more often!) I totally agree. I don't want housekeeping, so am glad we do not get it with our timeshare stays! I keep the place clean, the kitchen counters I wipe down every day and keep the floor cleaned up from spills. I'll make our beds myself, and I also like to wash our towels - they smell so much cleaner than they do when we first use them anyway! I don't want anyone coming in either, so you are not alone!

Matter of fact, next couple of vacations we have back to back weeks booked, so we should be getting a full clean after a week. I am on the fence about having them change the sheets, or just wash them myself if they need it and not have them come in the room.

We always bring or buy a bottle of some basic Lysol or Formula 409 spray cleaner, so I even quickly do the tub and shower every few days or so. I'm fussy that way though!

Is it just me?

Nope. We've never had issues with missing things (well, one time when my dad left a ton of small change on the TV it disappeared, but we're pretty sure the maid thought that was a tip! :lmao: ), I just prefer to have the run of the place during the day while on vacation and not worry about having someone wanting to come in and clean. I like having maid service when visiting relatives because that's where we're gone all day; on vacation we like to take a mid-day break, and that never works well with maid service.

We always stay in a condo, and I don't find it a great effort to keep it tidy, either. I just throw a load in the washer once in a while and there's not much to tidy up because the kids keep track of their own stuff and all hubby has with him is his laptop, Ipad and cameras (he doesn't do the souvenir thing). We do cook at least breakfast in the condo, but the kids load the dishwasher so even there it's more of a bit of tidying up than major cleaning. Totally worth it to keep the maids out of our hair! ;)

count me with you guys! I don't like anyone coming in either, be it a timeshare unit or a hotel room! Years ago when the kids were smaller, I liked them coming in on Disney's property so they would do the cute animal towels, but that was about it. Now a days, I just put the do not disturb sign up. Some places I am finding skip you anyway :sad2: and you have to call for clean towels if you need them (hotels that is).

just stay in timeshares - they are generally cheaper than a hotel - especially if you are staying for a week.

I regularly decline both housekeeping at hotels as well as mousekeeping when we stay DVC. I would prefer that no strangers enter a space we are occupying unless absloutely necessary.
