Just need a plain ol' hotel...

For one night. We're driving down in one day, plan to be there in time for dinner. We're going to do like we did last year- drive down, stay at a regular hotel for the night and then check into the resort in the am to get park tickets.
Last time we stayed at the Hampton Inn, but it was by the Orlando mall. It wasn't a horrible trip in the morning, but I'd like to be a bit closer to save time in the morning. I did enjoy the fact that they had a full complimentary breakfast (waffles)!

Suggestions?

I know there is FairField Inn by Marriott close by. How about staying at one of the DTD hotels if be close.

I'll check it out! I'd like to avoid toll roads if possible.
A good friend/coworker of mine is moving to Orlando in the next few weeks and we had planned on getting together that first night there after we arrive. DTD would be a great place to do that!

Ok, looking at places now but I justed wanted to say these hotels are SNEAKY!
Reading the fine print- $9.99 resort fee. WTH! Just add it onto the total instead of surprising someone with it at the end. That's messed up! It might be worth it to have a small drive in the morning!

I like the doubletree by sea world. You usually can find some discounted rates on their site as well. No free breakfast unless you are hhonors though. Hyatt Place by Universal (off Kirkman) is very nice and there is a free continental breakfast.

Thanks! I'll have to check them out also. We've stayed at Hyatt's before also and love them. I love that DH and I can still get a king bed and my DD is small enough that their couch/pull out is plenty big for her too!

We stayed offsite at the Best Western in DD. While the room was fine, and shuttle service great, the fees really added up. So much so that I pointed out to DH that we really didn't "save" nearly as much as we initally thought. And you still have to rent a fridge there so we spent a fortune on food. Probably not an issue for you since you are only going to be there one night.

Do not book any of the Marriotts by Lake Buena Vista, the traffic is horrible from the outlets.

We have stayed at the Springhill Suites by Sea World, which is about $90 and has a hot breakfast and this trip we will stay at the Residence Inn by Sea World - a 1 bedroom with breakfast for $70. The Sea World area is right off I4 and is about 15 minutes away from Disney. (We are doing the RI for 6 nights, while we do intense park stuff then going to the Beach Club for 4 days while we actually vacation, so we needed a hotel that was easy to go back and forth)

There are also quite a few hotels on 192 that are very close to the Animal Kingdom if you are staying at that end of Disney.

We have stayed at the Country Inn and Suites on Apopka Vineland Rd. It was inexpensive, clean and had the free nice breakfast you are looking for. It's just beyond Hotel Plaza Blvd., so really close. It's a great place for one night.

I have stayed numerous times at the Fairfield Inn and Springhill Suites at Marriott Village on Vineland and enjoyed good rates and perfectly good rooms along with continental breakfast. Traffic isn't bad if you turn left (away from I-4) and head to WDW via 535 and World Center Drive. Have gotten really good rates. Check Mousesavers.com or Allearsnet.com--one of them has special rates for these properties.

Try kayak.com. You can get prices for a lot of hotels on one site.

Also there are a lot of hotels on 192, and the further you go down from I-4, the cheaper they are.
