Hi There!
Welcome to my attempt at a Pre-Trip report.
Hopefully this will have enough followers that I'll be moved to do a Trip Report! :lmao:

My name is Erica, and I am a Disney Addict.::yes::
My DH Jason is not a full fledged addict like I am, but we’re slowly making progress! :thumbsup2

Just a little background on us- We don’t have any kids (yet) but we do have kiddos in our lives that we adore. We’ve taken all of them- with the exception of our youngest nephew -who is not quite a year old and an unborn niece (at least that’s what my sister says she wants, so we’ll go with that for now)

We love sharing Disney World with other people- mainly my family because Jason’s family just doesn’t get it.

We bought into DVC as a “reward” to me for having gastric bypass surgery. I was very overweight pre-surgery and my quality of life was going down the tubes. From what my surgeon says, the surgery literally saved my life. My liver was in really bad shape, and to pair that with other medical issues I was having , he thinks that I may have been dead within a few years had I continued on the path I was on with my habits. To date, I have lost 184 lbs.

We took our first trip as DVC members back in September 2011. We stayed at Bay Lake Tower in a 1 bedroom with a Magic Kingdom view- I loved it!

We hadn’t planned on heading back until September 2013 because we had been toying with the idea of doing a Vow Renewal for our 10th anniversary in Disney World so I knew we’d need to save money for that. Jason and I have both been married once before so we got married at the courthouse. The vow renewal is our way of celebrating all that we’ve been through and survived together, and besides, what girl doesn’t want to be a princess for a day?

Our plan was to just bank our points or rent them out while we saved money for the vow renewal. There would be no talk of a Disney trip before the vow renewal because we wouldn’t be able to afford to do the things we wanted to do at the vow renewal if we also had a trip between now and then.

Being the good Diser that I am, I continued reading trip reports, looking at pics of the castle lit up at Christmas, and reading about the decorations and all that good stuff and decided that I MUST go one year in December.

I let the idea of a December trip go for a while and while we were out having lunch one day we started talking about things we wanted to do on our next trip. I know, I know, who randomly talks about what they want to do on their next Disney trip? Lemme tell ya, this gal does! I’m not happy unless I’ve got a trip planned- even if the planning is just going on in my head!

We started talking about our points, how many we would need if we wanted to give our families rooms for the vow renewal using our points, why we MUST do an add on at the Grand Floridian when DVC goes on sale there :rolleyes1, that kind of thing.

I started calculating and tried to determine when the points needed to be banked by, and when they would expire, It was discovered that we had points that would need to be used by Jan 31, 2013 so Jason suggested that we go THIS DECEMBER.
He didn’t have to tell me twice! I was on the phone booking our stay at Old Key West as soon as my 11 month window opened up!

Next up…..plotting and planning for one of the most magical vacations ever!

I'm Here!! :yay:

Great start, Erica!! :thumbsup2

Way to go you!!! 184 lb., I would love to see pictures of your progress. ::yes::
But only if you're comfortable with it. :)

Just for you Millie- a "before and after" picture ;)

This is from our first trip together ever, in March 2008
This trip was for our 1 year wedding anniversary.

This is from our most recent trip - I am 15 months post op in this photo
This was the "Hey Let's Celebrate that Erica can motor around with out getting tired" trip :rotfl2:

I have hit a bit of a plateau with my weight loss, and just had a consult with a plastic surgeon to have some of the "excess" skin removed. I probably won't do that for a while, but I just wanted to know what would be involved.

As you can see DH is considerably taller than I am- I am 5' 4" and he is 6' 7" and even he had a hard time keeping up with me during our last trip! :cool1:

I also thought I should include some pics of my "fur babies". They are both rescues and a very important part of our little family.
Luna gets excited when she sees my travel bags come out because she knows she's headed to the "doggy hotel" as I call it when we're ready to leave...LOL

Luna is the oldest - and has DH says, she is a "Mommy's girl" She is a pit bull mix of sorts and is about 8 years old from what we can figure.

Luca is about 2 years old. He's an American Bull Dog and one of the most stubborn dogs I have ever come across

Wow! That is amazing! You go girlfriend! :D

Thanks!

I need to try to figure out how to resize the photos so they aren't huge! haha

I am in Erica!!! So excited you are going back for Christmas!!!

We start in November! November 26-28 at Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani and November 28-December 5 at Coronado Springs Resort!

We are there the 1st through 9th at Saratoga Springs- maybe we can meet up at some point! I'd love a good Dis-meet!

Aww that would be fun! I've been looking for a reason to leave the kids with grammy and head somewhere for a quiet drink :rotfl:

Just joining! We are booked for POR for dec 8-17.

Good for you on the weight loss!!! Just taking a big step like that is a huge accomplishment!

On to the details....

As mentioned in an earlier post, we booked at Old Key West because it’s one of our home resorts and I had the “11 month window” advantage there.
My plan was to switch resorts at the 7 month mark- but since it’s a busy season for DVC I wasn’t able to get what I wanted :confused3
Every option and combination of resorts that I really wanted was all sold out.
DH didn't want to wait list anything because there is/was a chance that a friend and his daughter would be joining us and we needed a resort with a studio available for them.
They have since cancelled on us, and since they did that we used the points that we were letting them have and we've upgraded to a 1 bedroom instead of a studio.
We are now staying at Saratoga Springs from Dec 1 through the 9th.

I’ve already made ADRs, paid for our APs (it was cheaper to get an AP than it was to pay for a 9 day park hopper) and now I’m just waiting for December to get here!

We are NOT doing the Dining Plan. It just isn't worth it to us for the way that I eat, and since we're in a 1 bedroom we will have a full kitchen so we're also planning on having some groceries delivered to the room so I can cook a few things, have some fruit, bottled water (who wants to pay $3 a bottle in the park?!) etc.

We may buy a Tables in Wonderland card to get discounts on most of our dining, but I'm on the fence as to whether or not the $75.00 is worth it.

I’m a bit of an obsessive planner, so I’ve got all of my info on a color coded excel sheet to keep track of everything.
The excel sheet has become a bit of a joke in our house….whenever I see something I want to try out DH simply replies “sure, but will it fit into your excel sheet schedule” LOL

So here are the plans

Saturday, December 1- fly from BWI to Orlando. Flight leaves at noon and lands at 2:22pm
I’m going to keep an eye on the schedule, because if AirTran changes the flight time by even a minute you can call and ask to be placed on another flight with no penalty. I’m really hoping to get on an earlier flight, but the flight we are on was the only direct flight available for me to book using A+ rewards.
We’ll take the ME to Saratoga Springs and then head to either Downtown Disney or one of the parks to pick up our APs.
We have dinner reservations at 7pm at Whispering Canyon Café at Wilderness Lodge.

Sunday, December 2 – breakfast at Crystal Palace at 8:25AM
DH and I have started the tradition of having breakfast here on our first “full” day of every trip.
We love the characters and the food isn’t all bad.

Monday, December 3 – We are seeing the Candlelight Processional at Epcot followed by Illuminations. I booked a CP dining package at Via Napoli for 3:30 pm. As of yesterday, our CP narrator hasn’t been announced yet, but I’m sure that we’ll enjoy it no matter who it is.

Tuesday, December 4We’re doing the Keys to The Kingdom tour this morning! I'm super excited about this as it's something I've always wanted to do and we always said "we'll do it next time" LOL
We have to be at the MK to check in at 8:15 AM.
We’re also planning on seeing Fantasmic! at DHS this evening.
We have Sci-Fi Drive in dinner reservations at 4:45 PM. We’ve never eaten here, but I’ve heard that it’s a fun place so we’re excited to try it out.

Wednesday, December 5- We are picking up a rental car at the Swan at 9:00 AM and then having breakfast at Kona at the Poly at 9:35 AM.
DH loves Tonga Toast so he always has to have it at least one time each trip. We usually have breakfast at the Poly on the day that we leave, but since we're not staying near the Poly I didn't really want to do it. I don't like feeling rushed and I thought that maybe we'd be a little rushed to eat, and get back to SSR on time for the ME.
We aren’t planning on doing any parks today because DH wants to visit some things off site (namely a couple of new housing developments because we are seriously considering a move to Orlando in the next few years!) and we are hoping to have dinner with some extended family that lives in the area.
This days plans could totally change, and we got a great rate on the rental car for the day.

Thursday, December 6 – We’re going to MVMCP tonight! We’ve done the Halloween party a couple of times before and loved it so I can only imagine that we’ll like the Christmas party just as much! We have a lunch reservation at Liberty Tree Tavern at 1:35pm.
We’ve had the family style dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern and DH didn’t care for it at all. I really liked the way some of the things on the lunch menu sounded so I convinced him to give the lunch menu a try.

Friday, December 7 – The plan is to head to DHS in the evening to see the Osborne Lights. We have a dinner reservation at 50’s Prime Time Café for 5:10pm
We’ve eaten here before and we had one good experience and one bad one – I’m hoping that this is a good one, with decent CM interaction!

Saturday, December 8 – No real plans today. We have breakfast at Tusker House at AK at 8:10am. I’m hoping to meet up with JenCG for a bit because she’ll just be back from her Disney Cruise (I’m so jealous!) :goodvibes

Sunday, December 9 – Fly home :( Our flight is scheduled to leave at 3:10pm so that means ME will pick us up at SSR at around noon. We’ll probably just eat breakfast in the room or in the food court and I’m sure I’ll start tearing up when it’s time to pack up.

So, what do you think of my plans so far? I’m open to suggestions!

We loved POR when we stayed there- We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section.
We also really liked POFQ.

Looks like our trips will overlap by a day :cool1:

Hi Erica!

WOW you look fantastic! Good for you. :)

Love your furbaby photos. DH and I also have a furbaby - a Scottish Terrier. He is an absolute joy and I am so glad we have him. Dogs are just great, aren't they? Us dog-people just 'get it'.

DH and I, along with my parents, are going to WDW in December also, but we will just miss your dates as we are from the 11th to the 18th. I totally agree about not doing the dining plan. It's too much planning for me - plus we are staying BWI Club Level and they serve a fair amount of food throughout the day already anyway.

OMG you will LOVE Keys to the Kingdom!! It is very cool, and I believe you get a little something special at the end, and I actually almost liked this better than Backstage Magic (which my family did the following trip) because you don't get to see as much of the utilidors in that one, and I've always found them fascinating.

You will also LOVE MVMCP!!! Go for the second viewing of the parade if you want a less crowded experience. And if you want snow, watch it from Main Street.

I like your plans! I tried Garden View Tea at GF a few trips ago and fell in love, so I always suggest it as something fun to do, especially for couples. If you find yourself wanting a break from the parks, visit the various resorts to see the Christmas decorations. All the deluxe level resorts (maybe the others too) go all out. It is really quite the sight.

Also, if you get a chance, go to California Grill to catch Wishes. DH and I discovered on our honeymoon that you don't have to have a dinner ressie to get up there. If fact, if you want food. Order from the bar. Seriously - chairs are more comfy, food is cheaper, and tables are perfect for two. When Wishes is almost ready, you have to go out on the balcony to experience it the best way. Go to the BACK balcony. Everyone scrambles for the 'front' balcony but the few is the same and the crowd is non-existent.

:) - Carey
