Hello Everyone;

Leaving tomorrow (Wed) for my 8th trip to UOF. I have been very lucky. Have not been there in weather like is going on now. What happens when it is raining? Do the pools at the resort shut down?

Any information would be so appreciated

Thank You:confused:

Just like the outdoor rides in the parks, rain is fine, thunder and lighting closes. :thumbsup2

After the storm passes they will announce when it's ok to swim. Been there many times and had to wait a little. We live in south FLA and we do the same thing in our personal pool.

If there was thunder but no lightning I'm pretty sure they wouldn't
close the pool or rides :) When was the last time you heard of somebody being struck by thunder ?

Every thunderstorm produces lightning.

You can never have thunder without lightning.

From Noaa weather site:

Is it possible to have lightning without thunder?

No, it is not possible to have lightning without thunder. Thunder is a direct result of lightning. However, it IS possible that you could not hear the thunder because it was too far away. Sometimes it is called “heat lightning” because it occurs most often in the summer.

I imagine they use about the same criteria that Disney pools do; if there is lightning inside of approx 5 miles of the area, no one can be in the pools.

With just rain, however, I know that Disney still allows you in the pool (pretty awesome feeling, to be rained on while swimming, though the lifeguards were laughing at us), and I bet Universal does too. Oh wait, it was sprinkling one time at the pool at Portofino, so I know they let you stay in the pool if *just* raining.

and just b/c I like to mention this since we didn't know it...IF there is lightning inside of 4 or 5 miles, the boat system at Universal shuts down, and please get out from under the metal-roofed boat line shelter. :) Go catch the shuttle instead. (the shuttle that's mentioned in your checkin materials, but who reads those? :3dglasses I'm a big reader of everything, and I missed it!)

We live near a large beach/pool, and there are automated ligtning detectors - something like if it is sensed within 10 miles...its shut down until it is no sensed for 30 minutes. It can rain all it wants - but if that sensor goes off, out you come.

I am assuming if they these systems in suburban Chicago pools/beaches - the pools in Florida certainly must be equipped with something similar.

No lightning just rain then you can swim in the pool

We swam in that pool monday night and tuesday during all the crazy rain. they said that would only close it down if conditions got too dangerous (at that time they were worried about the crazy wind) like lightening and thunder. It was really fun though!!
