Just wanted to share a few photos from last year's Candelight Processional. (We had great seats!)

For those looking forward to December trips, I highly recommend it. We did the CP package with the
Biergarten dinner.

NPH was amazing, of course. He talked about how the holidays have taken on a special meaning for him
now that he has children. It was very sweet.

I think NPH is overrated and overexposed. Some of the things he did during the recent Tony awards made me cringe.

Why is it that when celebrities come out of the closet, they do so only while in a relationship, never while single? Has anyone else noticed this? The latest example is Jim Parsons.

Are you really dissing Neil Patrick Harris on HIS BIRTHDAY of all days? For shame. (He turned 39 today.)

I don't know about him being overrated. He did a great job at the CP -- spoke clearly and with emotion and looked great in a suit. I feel I got my money's worth.

What did he do at the Tony awards?

Isn't it obvious? Because if they don't come out when they have a partner, it will be tabloid fodder. There's no real privacy for celebrities, and nothing thrills the nosy like someone "hiding" that they're gay. That and I'd be pretty ticked if I were expected to hide that I was in a relationship with my husband... and we're straight, no one would really be sniffing around about it. Why do you care how and why people come out? Would you care half as much if someone was coming out as asexual? You know, no one would have to "come out" if we weren't all assumed to be straight to begin with.

And NPH was awesome at the Tony Awards.

LOL, whoops. Forgot which subforum I was on. Um... nothing to see here.

No, it isn't obvious. That's why I posed the question.

I'm just wondering what kind of message it sends to non-celebrity gay Americans when gay celebrities come out of the close only while in a relationship. Are they saying, "Yeah, I'm gay, but I'm in a relationship, just like you, so I'm normal"? (They're normal even if they're single.)

I care about how people come out because coming out is a major decision and should be done right.

NPH suspended upside down? Please. His suggestion about a "mashup" for new play ideas, which includes "My Left Footloose"? You've got to be kidding me. "Fifty shades of gay." Oh, jeeze.... And can the guy really sing? Not in my opinion.

IIRC, NPH was "out" to his family, friends, coworkers, and pretty much out to anyone who read up on him, for a long time. I figured he only made a public statement about it when he had a partner to avoid his relationship being treated like a scandalous secret by our wretched media. In the land of heteronormativity, it's not like they have a really good choice, just a choice between lesser evils. Ideally, everyone could preserve their privacy if they wanted to.

I guess I see it as a personal decision first and foremost.

I took that for comedy myself. And I like his voice even if he's a bit of a talk-singer.

Which celebs do you feel have done it the best?

It seems like coming out these days for celebs becomes a prolonged media event -- People magazine covers, photo shoots, sit-downs with Oprah, etc. etc. I suppose major celebs have to take into consideration all of the time commitments that will follow the initial press release or interview in which they come out.

As for "Fifty Shades of Gay" -- I thought I came up with that. Boo.

I think Gay celebrities who come out of the closet tend to do it when they're in relationships because, perhaps, as a sign of commitment to the person they're with...many gay celebrities DON'T come out because, let's face it, many people in America are very prejudiced against gay people and Hollywood is tough already...do you know how hard it is to get cast in something??? Look at how many people went mental when JCpenney hired Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson...so when a celebrity comes out while in a relationship, they're taking a chance at crashing their career for the person they love, which I think is admirable, but that is me....
as far as NPH on the Tony's, he was a bit kooky, but the Tonys are about drama/outrageousness, etc...so his behavior was appropriate for the show. Geez, his character Barney is 1000% times worse on "How I met Your Mother"! I'd like to see him in this, but I am barred at work from taking vacations Nov 1-Jan 5!!!:headache:
