*Sigh* I'm Kind of Bummed About the Closing of "Snow White's Scary Adventures"

Yes, I know it's time had come.

Yes, I know it scared the living "holy hoo-ha" out of a LOT of unsuspecting little kids.

And yes, I know that most adults rated it a "10+" on the cheese factor scale in terms of "dark rides" in Fantasyland.

Clearly, it's time had come.

Truth be told, I don't think I had ridden it myself in over three years.

And yet, there was something oddly comforting in knowing it was there, one of the quickly disappearing 2-D, black light lit curving track rides that fall under the category of "they just don't build 'em like that, any more". It was a comfort, knowing it was still waiting for me to take yet another trip through the "enchanted forest" whenever I needed one.

But, alas and alack, ( ) time marches on.

I will miss it.

Now, make no mistake, I will not miss it along the same lines as Mr. Toad, (I'm still P-toad'd about that entire fiasco) or the loss of other great rides such as Horizons or "If You Had Wings" or shows like The Mickey Mouse Review.

But still, it feels like a small bit of the overall "Disney Experience" has been taken away...

And, it's never coming back.

Anyone else feel the same way that I do ?

I agree. It's a shame to lose it but I understand in the name of progress it needed to go.

Yup, I always enjoyed it, but I'll also be fine without it. I'll always walk by that spot and go, "That's where Snow White's Scary Adventure used to be".

There is always magic in any Disney experience maybe with this ride gone you will have time to experience new adventure or rediscover ones you have forgotten! When was the last tie you enjoyed Tom Sawyer Island or taken a ride on the Carousel of Progress... I know it has been a while for me even thought Snow White's Scary Adventure is no more the memories from the ride and the future one to be made on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train 2014 cannot come soon enough!

As one of those kids who got the crap scared out of them on that ride (I was 5 - it was 1987), I'm not sad to see it go. But I understand why some people are.

^ Yeah, you bring up a good point.

In terms of Tom Sawyer Island, there have been SO many rumors over the years that it was "on the chopping block" as well that we always try to take a trip "over there" at least once a year. It really IS a world within a world, and I'm sorry that so many guests just ignore it. ( I can remember when Aunt Polly's was a full service restaurant that served the best fried chicken on the bone and lemonade and such... My parents *loved* it !)

But, I'm straying from my point.

Disney is a constantly growing and evolving place. (It HAS to be from a business perspective - And besides, that's what Walt envisioned in the first place...)

But, that's doesn't dull the sadness when an "old stand by" closes down for good.

At least leveling SWSA makes some sense, from a geographical perspective, so that makes it a little easier to take. (As opposed to, say, getting rid of Mr. Toad which made NO sense at all - But, don't get me started. )

Bottom line, I agree that there is NO shortage of magic to be found in the parks. And while I look forward to the new Mine Train like you do, the promise of an exciting future is mixed with a little touch of melancholy nostalgia.

Time marches on, yes. But, I don't always have to like it.

I'd have been fine with It being replaced with another ride.

But, nooooo...we get a M&G.

I definitely feel the same way. It's a classic dark ride, beautifully executed, but much
more important to me because it symbolizes quite a lot of the precious relationship I share with my father. It's his favorite movie and when I was a little girl, this ride was very scary to me, so scary that I refused to go on the ride unless I could ride next to my father so he could "protect me from the wicked witch".

I'm sure I outgrew this fairly quickly, but Dad and I continued to playact that I would refuse to ride it without him. When I grew up and started going to WDW without him, I would still skip this ride, only going when he was traveling with me.

Now that Mom's gone, he'll probably never go to WDW again - the thought of him there
without Mom is painful and absurd - and so I suppose it's just as well that the ride is closing forever, because that little part of my life, symbolic of a much bigger part of my life, is also gone forever.

I'm sad about it.

I felt the same way you did in the 80's except I was 10. Even my mom was scared. We were holding each other and closing our eyes I did not know when I returned 20 years later that it was redone to be less scary. I was so scared to go on again because of my memory of it at 10. My DH laughed at me when we rode it for the first time on our honeymoon. I been telling him for months how scary it was LOL! I will miss it for the nostalgia. I dragged my DH on it several times during our trip in October since I knew it was going away.

My 7 year old turned to me out of the blue this week and said "Snow White is gone."

I think they must have had some segement on the Disney channel, unless my second grader just remembered that. We weren't talking about WDW or rides or our trip this past February - nothing. It was totally out of the blue, when she got home from school one day.

But it really strikes me - maybe some of us just have that love for the place, the rides, the memories - no matter our age or generation. I'm sad at every passing even as i know it brings bigger and better things. I like that WDW evolves, but I will still miss SWSA. Not, of course, on the Mr Toad level!

We've always done this attraction if the line has been short. I won't wait more than 5-10 minutes for it though.

We took DS on his first trip last year at 1 years old. He loved it. I was really looking forward to taking him this year now that he really recognizes the characters. I'm definitely bummed that it will be closed for our trip.

I will miss Snow White's Scary Adventure for nostalgic reasons. That's the ride that my little girl (now 30) insisted that I had to ride because it was so scary. She had ridden it earlier in the day with Mom while I took our son on another ride. She was just so cute about it. She didn't want to tell me about it so she could see how much it scared me. We rode it together and, of course, it scared me. I wish that we had one more ride on it before it closed , but I will always have that memory.

You know,maybe with a little coaxing you could talk your Dad into revisiting the MK with you one day.

Sometimes, things are not as absurd as they may seem.

At any rate, I wish your Dad a very special day, and I thank you for reminding me that sometimes it's not the rides themselves, but the special memories that they evoke for so many of us.

old and dated for sure, but I could ride it. Now I have to ride a mad mouse type coaster to see them. Not real happy.

Was silly to close it in advance of the mine train opening - it should have been kept open until then.

To have Disney's MK without a ride themed on what might be it's most iconic film is wrong.

It wouldn't have hurt to kept this ride open for another year or so and closed it concurrently with the Mine Train opening. There are plenty of character M&G's around.
