Gay Games In Orlando

I know that Orlando is seeking to host the Gay Games, and I would be willing to help to bring them here if it would be good for Orlando. However, a recent article in I think that it was the "U.S.A. Today" published that many British residents do not think that the Olympic Games for this summer have been good for London and are costing much, much more than London stands to gain.

Okay, I don't want for the Gay Games to cause the same resentments here among people who may not even care one way or the other about gay issues in general. Would you like to see the Gay Games hosted by Orlando or by your hometown if you currently live elsewhere, or would you fear that the taxpayers might be angered by the costs vs. benefits to the point that it wouldn't be worth it?

Generally, far less money goes into the Gay Games than the Olympics. It is much more likely to bring money in.

Being that I just moved to Orlando last year and just got registered to vote earlier this month, I am far from having any friends in high places. However, I am willing to lobby to whatever extent that I can to help bring more LBGT tourism to Orlando as I believe that it would be good for the city of Orlando.

I've been involved in organizing the last Games in NYC, and have attended a few. There are municipal costs, but they are typically more than offset by the tax revenue on meals and lodging.

The event itself has a substantial budget and requires massive private fundraising.

I would totally participate in an Orlando Gay Games, and I'll bet a lot of other people would, too. Especially in a cooler part of the year, when there are fewer tourists there, like October or November, maybe early December.

I wouldn't worry about the expense to the city. Agree with the comments that a full Olympics costs way more than a Gay Games. We wouldn't be building new stadiums or housing for athletes. On the contrary, we'd be filling hotel rooms that might have gone vacant, probably using sports facilities between regular games, like college gyms and fields when they're not having a game of their own.

Go, Orlando Gay Games!

Well, that is good to know because I have been in touch with the National Business Association of Orlando to try to set up a schedule of projects to help with things of this nature.

By the way, how are things in San Francisco these days? I left there a little over a year ago and sure do miss home sometimes. It is hard to believe that less than 15 months ago I was still there.
