Podcast questions

I first started to listen to the Disneyland Podcast a year ago because I was planning a trip to Disneyland. I eventually migrated over to the original podcast, but I realize I have missed a lot.

I mostly listen for entertainment at this point and info is a secondary. I would like to start listening to older episodes but I don't know where to start so I have some questions.

1. Where does "Stay Out of the Damn Lakes" originate from?

2. What are some of the "Best of Pete Rants"? Agree with him or not, those are great to listen to.

3. I have heard the "Best of Bob" on tribute segments, but what are other good podcasts that show Bob with the team at it's best? The interaction between Bob and all the others hosts is just awesome.

4. What are your favorite segments?

Welcome to the Disboards Podcast. Aren't they wonderful!

Personally, I think you should just go to the archive files and start listening from the beginning. There's really no better way to 'get to know' everyone.

Here are the archives:

1. Where does "Stay Out of the Damn Lakes" originate from?

There's a dangerous amoeba in many Florida lakes, and it seems like every year a few people become infected with it and die. Pete is doing his part to spread awareness of this issue.

2. What are some of the "Best of Pete Rants"? Agree with him or not, those are great to listen to.

One of my favorite shows is "The Sick Show" from January, 2011, where Pete does the show by himself because most everyone else has the flu. It has his rants on Disney coffee and the lack of resort-specific merchandise, and is just a great and unique show overall.

3. I have heard the "Best of Bob" on tribute segments, but what are other good podcasts that show Bob with the team at it's best? The interaction between Bob and all the others hosts is just awesome.

You should do like SamSam suggested and start listening to the archives from the very beginning. All the shows with Bob are great. I don't get all that emotional too often, but when I went back and listened to those last few shows of his again, it really got to me, knowing that he only had a short time left.

4. What are your favorite segments?

I'm pretty partial to Kevin's dining reviews, and my favorite is probably his June 16, 2010 review of Shutters at the Carribean Beach Resort. Let's just say things did not go well!

Happy listening.

If you are wondering which show started the Stay Out Of The Damn Lakes, I believe it was the 8/6/08 show when Pete did a review of the Polynesian Resort. He talked about the beach there and how everyone was ignoring the signs to stay out of the lakes.

As far as favorite segments...my favorites are 8/19/10 when John and Kevin covered the opening of Via Napoli. I keep that show on my iPhone constantly so I can listen to it whenever I need a good laugh. My other favorite is a part of the email show 8/27/10, it is one of the last emails read from MinnieLor about bringing home treats from WDW. The podcaster's take it somewhere hilarious. Ice cream treat trucks, etc.

I agree that it is worth going back and listening to all the old shows, there are just so many little things that you learn along the way. It's the only way to truly know everyone.

OMG.... that was hilarious -Thanks for mentioning it, I'll have to go back and listen again!

I went back to the beginning when I first got my iPod. I would listen to each week's new ones and then do old ones. I only listen during my wrok commute, about an hour per day. it took me months to go through them all, but it was so worth it. :thumbsup2My two favorite Best of Bob ones are the Dole Whips he brought (or didn't bring) for everyone & watching the space shuttle from the parking lot. :lmao: I still LOL thinking of both of them. I was just thinking that I think I am going to go back and listen to some of the old ones again. :dance3:Penny

The archives go back to 2006, are the older one's still around? That's about when I started listening and I'd love to hear some of the original podcasts.
Thanks to all

Thank you very much guys, downloading as many through Zune as I can right now.

I don't think you'll be sorry! :goodvibes There are many hours of good listening, starting at the beginning of the archives. I still go back and upload old podcasts, because I just enjoy them so much.

I highly recommend listening to "Introduction to the DIS Unplugged" from 4/15/10. It is available on iTunes, and is a wonderful overview of the show and podcast team. Enjoy!

So I have downloaded all of the past episodes, from the begining. Shortly after starting them I ended up getting laid off, but it worked out, because I went back to my dads shop and started working there and was able to wear my headphones.

Well, today I was under my welding hood, eagerly waiting for the next episode to start, when the May 13, 2008 episode comes on...

I knew that Bob had past away, I had listened to the Memorial show and the Best of Bob. But I was just not ready and started to tear up. When I listened to the shows before, I had no frame of reference for who Bob was, so it had no effect, but now...it is very real. It is going to be very weird to listen to the shows now, even though I still listen to the new ones as they come out.

When you put the date like that - 5/13/2008 ... wow. I can't believe so much time has passed.

Wow - I can't believe its been that long either. Val & I planned a trip that year to attend the planned live podcast recording and DIS meet at the Gaylord. Bob's passing changed that to an impromptu memorial. It was the first time Val & I got to meet some of the Podcasters. I remember meeting John and Kevin as well as sitting at one of the tables with Kathy (before she became part of the podcast).

I met a bunch of other DIS'ers then too, just can't remember them all. Maybe it is that long ago.

Miss ya Bawb.

I'm catching up on old episodes. Was that Via Napoli episode from 8/19/2010? I don't see Via Napoli mentioned in the show description; so I wasn't sure if the date was a typo. I could use a laugh and that one sounds *great*. I'm downloading it anyway but thought I'd check in case the funny was in a different episode.:-)

Thanks!

On my iPhone, the episodes only go back to 2010, and I can download them from the archives.... How do you listen to the old ones on your iPhone?

I swear I listen to a DIS podcast at least once a day. There are numerous ones that I have listened to over and over.....just because!

I too have gone back to the beginning and started listening. I was actually excited when I heard Pete talk about staying out of the lakes...I also got excited when Julie announced that she was pregnant. (wierd I know because they now have two kids)

Some of my favorite parts are "Carnival Ape Crazy" and anytime they discuss the homogenization of Disney.

I listen to the podcasts while I am at work and I find myself laughing outloud when I listen. I also cried when I listened to Bob's episode.

My favorite segments aren't really segments...just the banter that goes on with all of them, the old shows when they make fun of Will about the Tire table. I also just recently heard a voice mail that I believe was the first time Dustin called in to the show.

Listening to the old shows is fun because you hear the rumors or announcements that came out and it's interesting to see what came to be and what still hasn't opened. (the Giant wheel)

angieand3rs.. I have a Podcast App on my iPhone that is able to get episodes back to 2006.

Oh, thanks! My phone is too old for the app, but it's good to know I'm not crazy!
