8 days - 14 ADR's - No Dining Plan - PICS PICS PICS!!! *Completed with Links! Enjoy!*

So I just typed up the whole review for The Plaza and it was deleted... yikes! Here we go again...

Sunday was our MK day. We arrived well before rope drop and we were some of the first people in the park that day. We were on the go till 12:30 when our ADR was at The Plaza for lunch. DS & I ate at the Plaza on our last trip and loved it. For close to the same price as a counter service, you can get waited on and it's really yummy!

I got in line to check in and waited about 15 minutes before getting up to the podium. An older man butted in front of the person in front of me to MAKE an ADR for later on in the afternoon then he tried to joke with everyone in line to smooth over his unacceptable behavior. Ugh. Once I got the beeper, we ended up waiting another 15 minutes in the HOT, HOT sun. Everyone was crabby & complaining. Finally, we started buzzing.

We were given a table near the entrance so everytime the doors opened, we could hear the parade going by outside. I ordered the Plaza Club which came with Broccoli Slaw. I didn't care for the slaw (too tangy) but the Club was AMAZING. So good. I don't think I quite finished it all but came really close. Very filling & a great value!

MIL ordered the Grilled Reuben. She said it was really yummy, lots of meat. Her only complaint was the lack of sauerkraut. She opened her sandwich and there wasn't enough for one forkful inside the whole sandwich.

DH was in heaven. He got his first good grilled cheese of the trip along with fries. I'm pretty sure he ate it all.

The kids split a meal of the Grilled Chicken Strips with Fries & Green Apples. They loved it and ate almost all of it.

25.jpg

Then it was time for the kids' desserts. They ordered the Mickeylodeon and the waitress was nice enough to have it split into two separate glasses which was still plenty for each of them.

Who doesn't love that dessert?

Overall, we loved it here. It was a nice break from the heat and it filled our bellies for not very much OOP. The service is great (once you get seated).

Glad you enjoyed T-Rex! My mother and I had the most delicious salad there a few years ago. I think it was the Omnivore something or other. It had dried cranberries and goat cheese. Just so good and filling!

I had this real sense of deja vu while I was reading your Plaza review, like i had read it before :confused3

Did you post the bit about the guy cutting in line to make the ADR on another thread or something because I am pretty sure that I have read that bit before, at least.

Anyway, we love the Plaza also - glad your DH was finally able to get something he enjoyed. Just out of interest, are your kids picky eaters?

I think I did post it somewhere else before. Maybe in the theme park forum where someone was complaining about rude behavior ??? My kids are pretty good about eating and trying new things. My daughter is in a stage where she's a bit picky but nothing as bad as daddy and I'm sure she'll outgrow that. DS did the same thing but he will try just about anything now.

Love all the food pics and reviews so far. We are trying to get the Dessert Party in Oct so your pics were even more convincing....

Waiting for Ohana dinner popcorn::

I love your reviews and am getting a kick out of your DH's eating habits! Looking forward to reading more.

The Reuben at The Plaza looks good. I just added that and T-Rex to my ADR list.:thumbsup2

After we watched the Celebrate a Dream Come True parade, we headed over to the Polynesian for our 5:00 ADR at 'Ohana's. I was very excited about this one. DS & I had breakfast here on our previous trip and we loved it. I've heard mixed reviews but to me, the food pictures always looked so yummy... it was worth a shot!

We arrived quite early so we took a seat at the bar and MIL & myself enjoyed some alcoholic beverages. I've been wanting one of these beauties for awhile now and finally got one:

The Lapu Lapu!

It tasted really strong but it didn't really effect me at all. Maybe I drink too much :rotfl: MIL ordered a Habanero Margarita and she loved it. In fact, she ended up ordering a couple more throughout the trip (I believe 2 at Boma & 2 at Cape May)... lol...

31.jpg

DH was going to sit this meal out (after all, there was NOTHING that he would eat...) I did tell him if he was hungry to go down to Captain Cook's which I don't think he did ??? 'Ohana's opened and we were the third family to be buzzed in. We were given a nice table by the window close to the bar area. The bread was yummy and the kids ate a lot of it. I knew better... I was saving room for all that meat!

32.jpg

The salad was good. It was a little tangy'er (is that a word?) than I would prefer but not bad.

34.jpg

At this point the kids were both cold. DD had not been feeling well and she had quite the fever going on. DS just did not feel like eating (probably after all that bread). They brought out the next two platters & the dipping sauces.

The noodles were great... super yummy. The broccoli was a bit plain but still good. Very fresh tasting. The potstickers weren't all that great but then again, I didn't eat too many. The wings were messy! But yummy! DD usually LOVES wings but she wouldn't touch a bite :( I knew at this point that the kids were done. I hate to sound selfish but I didn't want them to ruin the experience for MIL & myself so I called DH and asked him if he could come to get them. I tried not to let the fact that I was going to end up paying for 2 meals that they did not eat bother me (after all, I'm used to doing that with DH half of the time, lol).

Bring on the good stuff!

Chicken (they came around with this 3 times):

Steak (they only made one round with the steak):

Shrimp (we got two rounds with the shrimp... yum! my favorite!):

Pork (one time):

At this point we were both full and I knew dessert was still to come. Now, I'm not a slow eater by any means. I'm very quick. I'm not a huge fan of the family style dinners just because they usually seem to take too long to bring out each platter. Sure enough, it was a good 20 minutes before our waiter finally brought out the dessert. By this time, the people who were seated next to us had already paid, they cleared the table and had someone else sitting there dining. Ugh. The dessert was amazing though:

42.jpg

They bring it to the table with no caramel on it and they drizzle it all over it right in front of you. That's just crazy. Even though we didn't want to stop eating it, we had to. It was physically impossible to eat anymore.

Then we waited for our check. And waited. And waited. Probably another good 15 minutes or so. My MIL (that had a few margaritas by now) made a comment to the waiter that my husband was p*ssed off and the kids were cranky (which neither was... I think she just had too much to drink at this point). I was officially embarrassed and ready to go. We were seated at 5pm sharp and ended up leaving the restaurant at 6:45. That is way too long in my book.

To my surprise, they did not charge for either of the kids! I was so happy! I couldn't'believe Disney actually didn't charge me for something! Wow!

All in all, I loved it. I would return for sure. It is so much food though... I need to starve myself for a few days before I go. Yum!

It really is ALL he'll eat. When I cook for everyone, he just throws a Jack's cheese pizza in or has a grilled cheese. IF we go out to eat, he ends up ordering off the kids' menu which is HORRIBLY embarrassing. We can never go to a nice steak place or anything like that. I made some of the ADR's without him (places like Cape May & Boma)... it just didn't pay for him to be there and he gets that. I have tried everything to get him to change but he is stubborn and not going to change for anything. We'd like to try getting him hypnotized maybe. Disney is even a challenge... you would think there are pizzas & grilled cheeses everywhere but not really. I map the places out that he will eat at and let him fend for himself while we get something yummy.
That's kind of sad IMO. I get that everyone has personal tastes, but your husband seems kind of extreme. And it's sad that his pickiness caused you to not have some meals together.

It sounds like you had a great time anyway though!

Loving all your pics and reviews!

Your Plaza meal looks delish! I may have to give it a try some time :thumbsup2

Love all your 'Ohana pics! I only went there once about 5 years ago and I remember being so full that I couldn't eat another bite, but when they brought out that dessert I ate it until I was literally sick. It's too good to pass up! That's crazy that you had to wait so long to get your dessert and check. I'm a quick eater too, so I know how frustrating that is to wait a long time between courses when you're ready to be done. That's great that they didn't charge you for the kids though!

We're huge Plaza fans! I get the Club every time, it's so good but the best thing there are the french fries. We love them!!

Glad your DH enjoyed his meal!

Love the pictures of the food! And I love the pictures of the bread pudding. My boss and I share a mutual love for it and I keep telling her that I'm going to bring her back some from 'Ohana's!! LOL!!

Great report and I can't wait to read more!!

Great pictures!! I am debating whether or not to surprise my kids and DH and in-laws on our trip with the Wishes Dessert Buffet. It looks like so much fun and what a fantastic way to see Wishes!! :good vibes

Did you have to book way in advance or could I book it a month out and still have a ressie?

Wonderful food porn!! Loving every minute of it :thumbsup2 popcorn::

I would suggest joining into the Dessert Party Watch thread in the dining forums on here. They wait for each month to start booking and then post when they do. If you wait, you won't get a spot. I'm not sure how many people are allowed but I would say it's between 50-100 and that's really not all that many. It is worth it to try once. I would return for sure if I wasn't with picky DH :)

This is the most entertaining food review I've read in a long time. Between your DH and MIL (doesn't like the dresses...ha!), you must have had more than one fruit juice and liquor combos!

Oh, how I wish we were going back to 'Ohana on our next trip. Unfortunately, DH really wasn't that enamoured with it on our last visit so no 'Ohana for us this next visit :sad2:

Hi! Loving all the photos - great face on your DS next to the dino at TRex :goodvibes

My SIL sounds like your DH - she only eats pizza and potatoes :confused3 Says that it is because she is vegetarian but I think it is more that she was raised that way - she does not like other veggies or fruits. For her wedding dinner she had potatoes 3 ways!

haha... :rotfl2: SO true! I usually ended everynight with a wine cooler on our balcony watching the fireworks. After the first night of seeing fireworks from our balcony, everyone else got sick of it so that was my quiet time. You'll have to join along on the trip report once I get that going to find out just how interesting things got between my DH & my MIL. :scared1:

We had a cheese pizza delivered to our reception for DH :sad2:
