Is there an interest in having a Sticky for ABD meet threads?

I've seen a couple of comments today about wondering if there was a way to do meets threads for ABD like they have on the DCL board.

If there's an interest, there are a couple of different ways I could proceed.

1) I could create a Sticky thread at the top of this forum where you could post links to threads you create for your trip. It would basically work similarly to the Trip Report Sticky we currently have. This I can create.

2) I could ask the Webmasters to create a sub-forum for ABD meet threads, like DCL has. I don't have the power to do that (as far as I know).

Let me know what you think, and how you feel, and I'll pursue it! No guarantees on option #2, but I'll ask if that's what people want.

With the traffic this board gets as opposed to the cruise board you could start with a sticky and move to a sub forum if warranted

I think that this makes perfect sense. Why don't we just do a sticky and then go from there?

Do you ever wonder how so many people do ABD tours, but never know about the disboards? Most of the families on our last ABD didn't even seem to be "Disney" families. It really makes me wonder how they even found out about ABD.

I think a lot of folks have ABD recommended to them by their Travel Agents. My first 2 ABDs, no-one had heard of the DISboards (except the Guides!). On my third one (Med add-on) there was one other person from the DIS.

Gotta say I am quite surprised to find out from those that have traveled with ABD that the groups rarely include DISboard members : I would have guessed the opposite. Go figure.

I love the idea of a meets threads as well. I agree that starting with a sticky probably makes the most sense.

It's a great idea. I don't have a trip scheduled right now but if I did, I'd love to have a meet thread. Maybe do it by destination instead of each departure date? I only suggest that because I never found anyone on the disboards going on my specific departure date, but was able to get lots of helpful information from people who had been to/were going on the same trip, just not at the same time.

We are all for it--sorta hit and miss now to find folks going on the same tour. I really like the ABD disboard--very practical. The DCL disboard is a whole different world--by the minute postings about the latest ice cream flavors!

WeLoveABD - your comment about the cruise board is so true - you could spend hours discussing second by second plans for embarkation day (I've been guilty of this myself) or precisely what to wear each night! I wish there was a way to encourage more people who are signing up for ABD trips to discover/participate in the DIS boards.

Good point. There are so few of us here, it might make sense to start out broader.

I *totally* agree about the DCL board. I spend way too much time over there I was joking with Calfan yesterday that I have definitely hit the "over-planning" stage for my next two cruises. Not to mention how much money these boards are costing me, LOL. I've booked two cruises and one ABD because of info on these boards

Totally agree - the boards have encouraged me to sign up for multiple cruises and ABD's, and frankly are part of the fun. I'm glad to know that Disney actually reads them too (courtesy of Sayhello's post).

Hey, all! I've been traveling home yesterday & part of today (**!) but I am home now. I think I like the idea of starting with the sticky, but now I'm torn about doing a link to a thread per trip or per destination. Or maybe both (a main thread for the destination, then anyone could add a link to a thread of their own for a specific departure). I want this to be what will be most useful for you guys!

I was thinking more about glasslipper's idea to have the thread by destination. If we did it this way, we could keep a "roll call" in one of the early posts with people on each trip. For example, if we had a "ABD Scotland 2013" meet thread, the first or second post would have a list of all the trips, and then someone on one of those trips would volunteer to update and keep track of the roll call by adding people's names to each trip as they joined (just like some of the cruise threads have). That way we would have the benefit of a wider group and still be able to keep track of who was on our particular trip.

So the first or second post of the thread would look like this:
