Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

For cheap Disney stuff, have you ever checked out the Disney Warehouse stores at the outlet?

No I haven't! I meant to go there when we had a car, but I had no idea where it was :confused3

I haven't searched for any music from Living with the Land but you could always try parktunes.com . If an attraction has a song it will list them, and then tell you if they are available for purchase from anyone.

Oh wow, thank you! I will definitely have to take a look at that website. Even if they don't have living with the land, it looks like they have a lot of other great music!

I'm back! I am finally all caught up! I moved out of my dorm room last Sunday and now I'm back home for the summer so I finally have time to catch up on all of the TR's! Oh! I must say that I LOVE your youtube channel! I just subbed to you!

Hooray! Aww did you? I move out Tuesday, which is actually my birthday! Have fun catching up! And thanks!

Joyful looks like it would be a lot of fun. I am trying to find more time to spend in Epcot and this will help convince the little one since she likes music.:cool1:

It was such a great show! Your little one will love it, I'm sure! Everyone was having a great time watching it!

AHHH! Okay this update just made me freak out. I miss Christmas at Disney SO MUCH! It's not even enough to just go back.. I MUST GO BACK DURING THE HOLIDAYS!! Very soon! It's funny how I never thought I'd go to Disney turning the holidays because it's so busy as it is, and now I feel like Christmas will not be the same without a Disney trip!

Watching your video of Joyful brought back so many memories! There were a couple different times we stopped to watch but unfortunately didn't catch a whole show. But they were AMAZING!

OMG I loved all the decorations on Living with the Land. I'm glad you got some good pics cause mine are mostly blurry, stupid camera!

Oh, Spaceship Earth, I will never get tired of staring at you! I actually think in all my trips from like 2006 on I have more pics of SSE than the castle even! It's so beautiful in its own way. AHH I want to go. ONE WEEK FROM NOW YOU'LL BE IN DISNEY!!!!!!! :dance3: I can't wait for all your pics/videos/TR. If I can't go, you and Kristen going is the next best thing for me haha!! :yay:

Haha aww I'm glad you really liked this update! And I know, right!? I ALWAYS want to go back during Christmas! It's the perfect time of year!

I'm so glad you liked the video! I know, I was glad I saw it all on my first night because I didn't want to miss it!

Me too! And I'm glad I took some good pictures for ya! :) Sorry yours were blurry!

Hahaha I have had trips like that too! And OMG I KNOW! 6 DAYS!!!! I'm excited for all of the new pictures and videos and stuff! It'll be great! And aww that's so nice! I'm glad we're the next best thing for you! :thumbsup2

Jess,

I subscribed and caught up on your December trips. Reading through your TR one can't help but enjoy your love, excitement and overall giddiness for everything Disney. I look forward to checking your other TR's out as well. Keep believing in the MAGIC and sharing it with the world, you do it so well. With me reading your report it made me take the plunge and now my family and I are excited for December 2012.

Thanks, BobbleClank

Aww thank you so much for reading! I'm glad you enjoyed everything! It's so great to hear positive feedback! I hope you like the other TR's and the future updates of this one as well! I definitely will, thank you so much for those kind words! And awww that's so great to hear!!! :goodvibes I hope you all have a magical time in December, I'm sure it will be great! :wizard:

The sky in your pictures just looks beautiful! That's my favorite time to be in a Disney park.

The movie that used to be in the theater before Circle of Life was called Symbiosis. But I don't know why it would have needed a stage. :confused3

Thank you so much!! Me too, it's such a beautiful time of the day.

Hmm I wonder what it was about! And I don't know either! :confused3

Oh man I wish I could get down there during Christmas! Joyful sounds amazing!!! I would love to see them in person. How cute that all of the plants are decorated for Christmas! :goodvibes Wow! Pretty Spaceship Earth pictures!

It was wonderful! And yeah I know! I was happy that they did that! And thank you!

I love Epcot at sunset... it's so gorgeous!

It's been a few years since I was in Epcot at Christmas, but the next time I go, I definitely want to check out Joyful! They're so talented!

I hate that the drug store Disney stuff is so junky! But I guess you get what you pay for. :confused3

Me too! It's beautiful!

You definitely will have to! I didn't even know they existed until this trip.. and I just loved them!

Me too! I guess so. What a rip off.

We caught the last few minutes of Joyful on our trip last year. They were amazing! And so fun!! I also LOVED the decorations on Living with the Land...its totally something you wouldn't expect at all. Can't wait to hear where you went for dinner!

I know, right?! Me too! It's such a nice little touch! And yay - I can't wait to tell about it!

I love the fountain near the entrance! It is so pretty. I never knew they decorated Living with the Land! That's so cool. Now I need to go back during Christmas time.

I do too! Me either - I was pleasantly surprised! You definitely do!

Those sunset pictures are just amazing!! And I really love the pic of you and your mom with all those yellow flowers. Very pretty!
I hope your brother started feeling better and had a good time too.

Thank you so much!
Yeah he did.. eventually! :p

Your making me so wanna go back at Christmas time. We had a blast the one time we went. Can't wait to hear more.

Aww Christmastime is the best! :goodvibes You'll have to go back someday! Thank you!

Chapter 38: THE BREAD Has Returned
December 21st, 2011

We got back to the hotel and woke up Dad from his nap. It was time to go to dinner! Jonathan wasn't feeling well so he stayed behind and slept. Poor kid, he was going to miss out!!!

I tweeted:
TIME FOR KONA LET'S GO PEOPLE! #commandodisfreak :-)

Mom, Dad, and I drove to the Polynesian for our dinner reservation at Kona! Driving to the Polynesian is EXTREMELY complicated. You have to stay right after you enter the Magic Kingdom entrance or else you're stuck. We went the wrong way and it was very difficult to find our way back to the correct road.

Anyways, after that whole ordeal, we got to the Polynesian about 15 minutes late for our ADR.

dsc0217mv.jpg

We checked in and looked at the BEAUTIFUL Polynesian Christmas decorations while we waited. They were absolutely stunning.

img0693q.jpg

Christmas Tip #18: The Deluxe Resorts have AMAZING Christmas Decorations! Make sure you add the Polynesian to your list! Stop by when passing through on the monorail or make a dining reservation there so you don't miss out! It's so pretty!

Within 10-15 minutes, we were called! We were seated on the right side of the restaurant in the front. Kona is a family favorite for breakfast, but my parents had never gone there for dinner! I was so excited for them to try it!

We had the same waitress that I had in August with Nat - Sandy! She was so nice and sweet, but the service was very slow.

She took our drink orders and I was VERY anxious for my favorite food in the world. I tweeted:
Omg I need my bread HURRY UP LADY!!!!

I had to introduce my parents to..... THE BREAD.

img0692xv.jpg

It was just as amazing as I remembered it! I basically ate a whole loaf by myself. It was SO GOOD!!! And my parents agreed. As I said before, we basically extended our entire trip so I could make a dinner reservation at Kona and eat THE BREAD. It was well worth it. I was SO HAPPY!

img0690lr.jpg

Here's the before picture:

dsc0223jz.jpg

Five minutes later...

dsc0224zu.jpg

BAM.

Then we ordered our meals! Dad started out with the Lemon Grass Bisque. It was good but very different. I wasn't a huge fan, but Mom loved it!

dsc0225ir.jpg

Then Sandy brought me another loaf of bread. Bless her soul.

dsc0226av.jpg

Then our meals were ready! Dad ordered the sustainable fish which was Mahi Mahi. It came with black rice on the side. He really liked it!

dsc0230bm.jpg

Mom got the Pan Asian Noodles with Tofu. She loved it!

dsc0231q.jpg

However, I personally think that my entree was the winner. The Teriyaki Steak! It really is the best entree on the menu. It was SUCH a good steak! It was perfectly cooked and had fantastic flavor. The broccolini also tasted amazing because of the steak sauce on the plate. I guess steak sauce just makes vegetables taste 20 times better.

dsc0229vx.jpg

My parents were very full when it came time for dessert, but it was my first night it Disney - WE HAD TO GET IT! So I had Dad order the pineapple upside down cake...

dsc0239vq.jpg

And I ordered THE KONA KONE!

dsc0240cf.jpg

However, I basically ate both desserts by myself. Not kidding. :rotfl: The both only had a couple bites.

Successfully polished off the pineapple upside down cake and the Kona Kone with minimal help. #success

They were both absolutely DELICIOUS!! Honestly, the best parts about Kona are THE BREAD and the desserts. I wouldn't be mad if that's all I ordered for my meal.

Overview of Kona Cafe:
Waitress: Sandy
Service: She was nice and polite, but everything came to our table very slow. We spent a lot of time waiting. I mean, it was busy so I sort of understand. 3.5/5
Atmosphere: Great! I love it in there! However, some children had PIERCING shrieks and one family broke a glass. (thankfully it was cleaned up immediately) What rowdy people. Thankfully, the flaws were from the guests, not the actual restaurant. 3.5/5
Food: So great. THE BREAD completes my life. I was ridiculously full after, but it was so worth it. 5/5

Once we were done, Dad went to Captain Cooks to get Jonathan a pepperoni flatbread. We took it back to the room so he could eat it for dinner.

dsc0232gz.jpg

dsc0241g.jpg

Mom and I waited for the check, paid, and then we met up with Dad. There is a whole gift shop downstairs that I didn't even know about! Boutiki! I felt SO dumb! How did I not know that it existed!?!

dsc00462nz.jpg

Anyways, we left the Polynesian and went back to the room. We almost stopped at Walmart to get an air mattress for me, but we just decided to go back. We were so tired.

We got back to the room, I got ready for bed, and THERE WAS NO STACEY ON TV. I cried a little.

dsc0242yn.jpg

Jonathan watched X-Factor, Family Guy, and the Big Bang Theory while I wrote in my journal. Then everyone fell asleep. Goooood night.

I may have to put Kona on my list of possible ADR's. Your food looked amazing! I'm a bread person, sometimes too much and I have no room for the main meal:rolleyes: but food can always come back with you...right!;)

If you're a seafood fan, you should try the Tuna Oscar the next time you're at Kona. It's so good!

YUM. That food looks amazing. We don't have time for a dinner there next time, just a breakfast, but I'll be putting that on my MUST HAVES for our next trip!

Can't wait for your next (All Disney?!) update! ;)

Oh man, that food looks SO GOOD!

I actually laughed out loud at "Boutiki"... that's such a cute/cheesy name!

I just noticed that there's cotton candy at the bottom of the Kona cone! They really do think of everything!

Oh my I was really behind but all caught up. I really enjoy reading your reports. Your love of WDW sure come through. Love all the food porn. I have to say it makes my mouth drool as I have done a change in my life and eating healthy and walking at least 5 nights a week. So seeing some of the foods (ok all of them) it's made me want to be on vacation, as everyone knows you get to eat what ever you want then.:thumbsup2
Oh and enjoyed the first part of the Mother Daughter trip. I miss doing those things with my girls. I do get to have a day at Disneyland next month with the whole family. That means my husband, oldest DD Brittany (who just found out she is having her second baby in Jan 2013 :), her son Tristen 3, her fiance' Nat (first trip to Disney), youngest DD Katy, her DD Khloe 1, and her fiance' Chason. We are headed to Ca to go to my youngest sister's baby shower. So we thought we would add an extra day. Can't wait.

YUM YUM YUM! I just love that bread soooo much!!!!!! What a great dinner!! I did, in fact, find myself drooling over those food pictures! I love Boutiki!! It's like my favorite store! They have such cute dresses! :goodvibes

YES!!! Kona, one of my favs, seeing the bread gave me a memory filled explosion in my mouth that instantly caused me to drool. The Poly is absolutely one of our favorite places to be in THE WORLD. My family and i especially enjoy the Spirtit of Aloha Dinner Show, we actually dressed up in authentic Polynesian clothing when we attended the dinner show on our last trip. The show itself was a plethora of fire and dancing that left all of us in total amazement and awe. I would suggest it for anyone who has yet to see it, it was one of many highlights of our last trip.

The Kona cone looks amazing, being a dessert freak myself it doesn't take much remember all the deserts we had on our last trip since we were on the deluxe dining plan.:cool1:

Now I know you are somewhat young but a Disney Veteran, I would like for you to tell me what your absolute top 3 favorite things are to do in the WORLD. Mine are People watching when they enter into Magic Kingdom for the first time, Eating at and the watching Wishes from California Grill and watching my baby girl's face light up as she is overwhelmed with everything Disney.

sorry didn't mean to Hi-Jack.

It's been so long since I've commented, but I check for updates on your TR all the time :) I love it!! I am dying to try that bread and the Quesdillas from t-rex!!! So sad that your brother was sick and missed out on dinner- I hope he started feeling better in no time!

You are absolutely right, driving to the Polynesian is always tricky. We had a car when we stayed there in January, and every time we came back, I had to remember, get all the way in the right lane GET OVER GET OVER!!!!

You didn't know Boutiki was there?! Travesty, absolute travesty. :lmao:

Dinner looked absolutely heavenly. :goodvibes

Oh no, poor Jonathan! Being sick is bad enough, but being sick at Disney is just the worst! :sad1: I hope he got to feeling better quickly!

Driving to the Polynesian really is confusing. I feel that way about driving to Fort Wilderness too. We always get lost! I am so excited to finally try the Disney buses for a few days in July!

Ohhh THE BREAD. :bitelip: Reading your August TR update about THE BREAD was the entire reason John and I went to Kona in December, and it did not disappoint. Seriously, I feel like I could live the rest of my life only eating the pretzel bread from Le Cellier and THE BREAD from Kona. So amazing!

John got that same steak when we went there! He said that was the best steak he had on the entire trip, even better than his steak at Le Cellier!

Well, it stinks that Jonathan missed out on Kona, but that flatbread pizza y'all brought back to him looks delicious! :thumbsup2

Loving your trip report! I'm doing a mommy (me) daughter (7) trip in July and reading your first report has me so excited! Can't wait to read the rest!

Oh man, that bread- MUST. TRY. IT.

My friend and I were planning on going to Kona for breakfast for our upcoming trip but I just might have to squeeze in a dinner ADR somewhere, that food just looks TOO GOOD. :goodvibes

Ahhh OMG so this might be the longest reply ever...but whatever! lol

So I basically just sat down the past week or so and read ALLLLLL yours (and Kristen's) tr's. OMG. I take a break from the Dis and then come back and discover you frumpy folk! So splendid. Life is so good. My boyfriend has been making so much fun of me. Every time he looks over he is like "How are you STILL reading about the same people?" And I'm like "Not my fault they are the luckiest people in the world who get to go so much!"

I was going to take notes so I could reply to everything I wanted to discuss with you but then I decided you wouldn't appreciate the novel! Ha. You are welcome. So I'll try to keep it to stuff that's related to this current tr.

Love Kona too. Although I'm an extra fatty and my obsession isn't solely with the bread but also the butter. My last trip was with my dis-best friends (xoktenox and lauren_elizabeth) and they made so much fun of me for how much I love it. It's just sooooooo good though!

I also must mention how much I love all your Disney clothes. Clothes with hidden Mickey's are clearly the best, along with all the other blatantly-obvious Disney ones. I have some flip flops with Mickey's on them and I always get compliments on them. The only thing that makes me sad about them is they do not give me a Mickey-tan line like I was hoping. I was so disappointed that it's just a dot where the Mickey head should be! Haha I'm such a freak. But I think you of all people would understand Disney obsessions!

Finally being caught up is bittersweet...I am glad we can actually "talk" now, but disappointed I can't just read a whole trip report at once! They have been easing my Disney depression!!

Anywho...I guess I'll just have to wait for more after you get back from your trip! And then I get that TR to look forward to so yay!!

I may have to put Kona on my list of possible ADR's. Your food looked amazing! I'm a bread person, sometimes too much and I have no room for the main meal:rolleyes: but food can always come back with you...right!;)

You definitely should. If you're a bread person... you NEED to try it! And yeah, who needs an entree, right?

If you're a seafood fan, you should try the Tuna Oscar the next time you're at Kona. It's so good!

Thanks for the recommendation! :thumbsup2

YUM. That food looks amazing. We don't have time for a dinner there next time, just a breakfast, but I'll be putting that on my MUST HAVES for our next trip!

Can't wait for your next (All Disney?!) update! ;)

You definitely should! It's so good!
Me either! :) Our first full day in Disney!

Oh man, that food looks SO GOOD!

I actually laughed out loud at "Boutiki"... that's such a cute/cheesy name!

I just noticed that there's cotton candy at the bottom of the Kona cone! They really do think of everything!

It's DElICIOUS!

Haha I know, it's perfect! :goodvibes

Yes there is! The Kona Kone is the perfect concoction ever!

Oh my I was really behind but all caught up. I really enjoy reading your reports. Your love of WDW sure come through. Love all the food porn. I have to say it makes my mouth drool as I have done a change in my life and eating healthy and walking at least 5 nights a week. Hooray! I'm glad you're all caught up! Aww thank you so much for the compliments! Eating healthy is so hard... I give you such major props! Vacations are the best - you can eat EVERYTHING!

Aw thanks! I'm sure that day will be wonderful! I hope you have a great time!

YUM YUM YUM! I just love that bread soooo much!!!!!! What a great dinner!! I did, in fact, find myself drooling over those food pictures! I love Boutiki!! It's like my favorite store! They have such cute dresses! :goodvibes

Mmmm me too! Haha I don't blame you! Boutiki is wonderful - I spent a lot of time in there once I knew it existed :lmao:

YES!!! Kona, one of my favs, seeing the bread gave me a memory filled explosion in my mouth that instantly caused me to drool. The Poly is absolutely one of our favorite places to be in THE WORLD. That bread is SO good! Mmmm I love it - I'm glad you could remember it so vividly! I love the Poly too! It's one of the few resorts I haven't gotten to stay at yet. Someday! I haven't done the Spirit of Aloha show since I was like 3. I think it was way different back then, too. I would love to see it again sometime soon!

I love the Kona Kone as well! It's so good!

Hmm my three favorite things? Ahh there's so many. Umm...
1) I love watching IllumiNations and singing "We Go On" when it's over. It's so magical!
2) I love walking around the Beach/Yacht Club Area
3) Being at the Magic Kingdom at dusk on Main Street USA.

I mean, there's SO many more things... but that's what is popping into my head at the moment! No need to apologize - I love hearing your feedback! :goodvibes

It's been so long since I've commented, but I check for updates on your TR all the time :) I love it!! I am dying to try that bread and the Quesdillas from t-rex!!! So sad that your brother was sick and missed out on dinner- I hope he started feeling better in no time!

Aww well I'm glad you're here reading along! You need to try them - they're so good! And aww thanks! Thankfully he did soon!

:goodvibes

It really is! I'm so glad we're not the only ones who were confused!

No I didn't! It's so embarassing :lmao:

Mmmm it was. YUM!

I know! Poor kid. He thankfully felt better after a while.

Yeah I love the busses because we don't have to worry about anything haha. Directions are just too complicated.

I'm SO glad that you guys got to Kona and that you enjoyed it! Mmmmm Le Cellier Pretzel Bread and THE BREAD = perfection :faint:

Did he!? I totally agree - that steak is AMAZING!

I know! But yeah, I think he probably liked that pizza better than Kona food anyway, entree wise. He would have loved THE BREAD, though.

Loving your trip report! I'm doing a mommy (me) daughter (7) trip in July and reading your first report has me so excited! Can't wait to read the rest!

Thank you! Aww that's going to be so much fun! I hope you guys have a magical time! I hope you enjoy the rest of the report!

YOU NEED TO!

Mmm you definitely should! We went to Kona for dinner once and for breakfast twice on this trip. We LOVE Kona!!!

Aww thank you so much for taking the time to read all of our trip reports! I'm so glad that you enjoyed them! It's great to hear such positive feedback and nice compliments! I'm happy that they kept you entertained for that long!

Haha okay! Don't ever be too shy to comment - I love hearing what you have to say! :thumbsup2

I totally understand... that butter is SO GOOD! And aww fellow trip report readers! That's cool that you guys are all friends!

Aww thank you! I agree - they're awesome! Haha I would be disappointed!

Yeah it's great to hear your comments! I will try to update soon so you'll have more to read! :thumbsup2

Thanks for being here :)

So I haven't commented on this TR yet, but have read the whole thing! You have such a great family and I feel like I'm on the trip with you! Thanks for sharing your Disney and real life adventures with us. I hope my kids grow up to be as sweet and Disney-Obsessed as you! :goodvibes

Nice review - LOVE Kona! I will be thinking of you next month when we eat there and I have THE BREAD! Really looking forward to our meal there. This restaurant is so special to me. It was the Coral Isle Cafe when we had our honeymoon at Poly and we had breakfast there every morning. They had the best blueberry muffins! I am planning on having a specialty cake there for my sons birthday so we won't be getting any of the dessert.

The decorations, particularly around the waterfall were gorgeous!

"Welcome home everybody!" Um. Yeah. Dying right now because of that picture... 83 days... BAH.

OMG YES! Joyful! I didn't get to see it this past December but we caught a little bit in 2010, and they were singing a song I had sung in my youth choir back in the day, "Hosanna." I was so excited! Love the video, Joyful really is so awesome!

I think you're trying to kill me in this update because these sunset pics omg.

So glad THE BREAD was back in your life. Are yall going there next week? (Do you know how jealous typing that sentence made me?? GOOD LORD.)

Nope, sorry. NO STACEY, NO STAY!!!! (I just made that up. I think it's pretty legit.)

Next time I go to Kona I am totally loading up on the bread, eating a small appetizers, and then indulging in a dessert. Last time I had an entree that was kinda bland, but still filling so I had no room left for dessert.
