Pomme;131419]I'm interested to buy DVC but when i tried to call them, they said they can't sell me or tell me info because i live in Asia (the country they can't sell too). But they don't mind if i visit their location and purcahse it there.Anyone here are living in those countries not listed in their site?I think I made a mistake of telling them where i am, if I tried calling again and give them my friend's address, they will communicate with me via email?

Typically DVD (the company that sells DVC memberships) tries to communicate as little as possible through email. It also may have something to do with financial transactions involving your country because you are trying to make the purchase from there. Have you tried calling one of the DVC resale agencies and seeing if you can buy a resale contract?

You can find them by doing a Google search for DVC resale.

Good luck!

I had the same problem last year and I am from Quebec, Canada. I was really upset when they would not talk to me and practically hung up on me. I ended up contacting the Timeshare Store. Jerry was very patient explaining everything to me and we ended up buying from him and saving a lot of money.

I have since learned that Disney is only licensed to sell in two provinces in Canada and I believe is not even licensed in all 50 states.

You therefore have two choices. Buying from them when you are on property or buying resale.

Resale went really smoothly. We worked through email and wire transfer. I could have courriered a check but felt more comfortable wiring the money.

Since we bought, we have had no further problems. I can go online on dvcmember without any problems. I paid my fees in December this year by credit card because I was unsure if I would have problems. I figured I could handle any problems once we went on our trip (we typically travel to Disney at Christmas). It turns out that my concerns were unfounded. I paid by credit card no problem.

Good luck!!

We too had those same issues as we're from Montreal as well. My husband and I bought our first contract back in 2008 while onsite at Disney and have since added on other home resorts through The Timeshare Store. Both went smoothly with the difference of resale being able to purchase from home and saving us a bundle. Best $$$ we ever spent in both cases though :)

A Timeshare Developer, (DVD) has strict laws that they have to deal with. Sometimes all they have to do is obtain a license or permit for the State or Country where they wish to sell. Sometimes they are not allowed to even talk to residents from some States/Countries unless they are in Florida.

Disney would love to sell to everyone, everywhere if they could but the law is the law.

Timeshare resellers don't have the same legal restrictions because they are not the Developer of the project.

Thank you very much for your replies, at least now I know I shouldn't waste time calling them. The only way to buy direct is at their resort.

Resale isn't my option since I plan to go to Tokyo Disneyland and Cruise too.

Does this mean I have to make decision on the spot? Does it mean all paper work has to be done and sign while I'm there?

When I purchase Marriot, I visited the location and thought about it for a few days when am back home and continue to email the sale rep.

As I did not purchase that way I do not know for sure. My guess would be yes, it would have to be done then and there, so do your homework before and know exactly what you want.

Perhaps other foreigners who purchased direct from Disney can give you a more definitive answer.

We ran into this problem since at the time we bought VGC direct, they were not licensed to sell in the state of Hawaii.

I went to make the purchase on a trip with our best friend (who had formerly been our roommate and probably will be again), and my nephew while DH had to stay at home and work. I tried to call ahead of time to set up paperwork but they really didn't want to do anything over the phone since I couldn't sign any papers.

So in order to have DH on the contract, our options were 1) Have it in my name and amend the contract to add DH at a later date, or 2) Put DH on the contract, list him as having an address in a state they could sell to and mail/fax all the paperwork back and forth (we were not financing so there wasn't a tremendous deal). Since our best friend lived in California we put his address down as DH's address and I think its still on there, with our Hawaii address on my part of the contract and now they send all mailings to both addresses. We just left it that way since we'll probably be moving in with this person in the next year or so and trust him, though nothing important went there after the initial sale anyways. So basically the contract was sent to the address in NorCal, then forwarded to us in Hawaii, then we mailed it back to Disneyland DVC office. Kind of a hassle but it worked.

If there's anyone you could trust that lives in that state (or any state they are now licensed to sell in - eg. California, Hawaii, Florida, probably New York and Illinois), you might be able to use their address and take advantage of that route doing most of the transaction over the phone. It's expensive on shipping, etc though.

The signing will need to be notarized, and they have a notary on site. I'd recommend making up your mind on such things as home resort, use year, amount of points you need before you ever walk in the door by researching this site anyways. You might be able to ask them if you can sign and notarize a contract and leave it on file with them backdated or something like that if you aren't sure you want to pull the trigger while there. At the very least you have a 10 day rescind period if you do sign while there in which you can cancel the contract.

I suggest that you read everything that you can here on the DIS. That way you will have a good understanding of what the DVC is all about before you visit the Sales Preview Center at WDW. I think that you will also find the using points for DCL and Tokyo can be expensive with better cash deals being available.

I think I have to do all the research and make decision before I go. Then finish the deal there, then hope that the 10 days cancellation will give me sometimes to change my mind.

The 10 day cancellation is totally free?

It is free, it's required by Florida law.

Bought direct from DVC 460 points I am from Mexico and had no trouble at all they sent me all the papers through FedEx with a prepaid FedEx envelope they have been very helpful and helping me go through the extra steps like notarizing the docs and having them apostilled and translated a but of an extra expense but worth it :dance3:

We are from Australia, bought BLT directly from Disney @ WDW in 2010.

Will add on next year with another resale from here, as it was so easy.

We too bought BLT when it first opened and have also just closed a Vero Beach contract through TTS 3 days ago. Can't wait to book our VB stay, just waiting for the points to load. We also own at BCV bought through TTS 2 years ago.

While we live in the US, we purchased our first contract via mail before DVD was permitted to sell in our state. We used a friend's address in Oregon for the transaction then switched over the address after the sale had closed.
