Would this Monorail Idea Work?

Our family is staying at Pop for a few days next week :yay:. We know that staying on site gives us the privilege of free park parking and the buses but we had a different idea.

Would it be smart or dumb for use to drive to a Monorail Resort and take the Monorail into MK? This would bypass the ferry ride I'm guessing and it could possibly be easier to do with our double stroller.

Thoughts?:listen:

You cannot park at a resort for park access, so that's not allowed. If you park at the Ticket & Transportation center (the MK parking lot) you can take the monorail to MK or Epcot from there.

To MK, you can also take the ferry, either would be easy with a double stroller, you just roll it on.

You are not suppose to use resort parking for theme park parking. If you want the convenience of the monorail resort pay for a room at the resort.

When you park at the TTC you have the choice of either the ferry or the monorail into the MK.

So you park and then pick which one you want to ride, it isn't only the ferry so you most certainly can ride the monorail from the parking lot if that is what you prefer.

Hah. We can barely afford our discounted stay at a value resort... I wasn't trying to take advantage or get something for free from a high and mighty Deluxe Resort. :worship: Just wondering how it works. (We're a young family and new to the Disney experience as our folks didn't take us when we were kids)

After talking to some people where I work I found out that our bus will take us straight to the park and we won't have to ride the ferry in. (this is our first stay with WDWR so I didn't know)

Thanks for this tips everyone... I have one more question. Do REsort guests get free Theme Park Parking... We want to drive to the park on our last day so we can head straight home that night.

Yes - you'll get free resort parking.

And yes, your people at work are right, you take the bus right from POP to the front of the MK (no need for ferry or monorail at all).

It's not about high and mighty anything it's about how small the parking lots are at the monorail resorts. They simply cannot accommodate MK traffic. To see, take a look at the Poly lot on Google earth and check the TTC lot below it. The Poly lot couldn't accommodate the cars in the nw corner of the TTC much less the entire lot. It wouldn't matter if they were deluxes, moderates, or values.

The guests staying at the monorail resorts have to be able to park at their hotel just like everyone at the other hotels. So, it's not about high and mighty it's simply about practicality.

Yes, your resort parking pass will get you into the Theme parking for FREE.

As for parking at resorts with monorail access, those parking lots are restricted and you can't get in without a pass.. if your just visiting or dining they will give you a two hour parking pass so you can't really use them for monorail access. Or you could do what my wife does when we eat breakfast at Poly.. her and the kids take the monorail to MK and I have to go move the car..

Isn't that what Dad's are for? :goodvibes

You may decide it's easier to drive with a stroller anyway.

The deluxe resorts are not high and mighty, they just have rules about parking if you don't have a room there. There are other exceptions (like dinner reservations and shopping), but, parking for access to the the theme park is not allowed.

You will get free parking for the parks. They will give you a parking pass for the length of your stay and you will put that on your dashboard. It will be good for the entire day of your last day.

Good dad... :cool2:

Do you find that it's just easier to just drive and park when your lugging around a stroller? Ours is a double jogger, and it's surely isn't the smallest or lightest thing around.

We plan on getting there super early each day so we may be able to get god parking spots, are the parking lots open for Extra Magic Hours?

PS This is awesome... My first ever post and everyone is being crazy helpful. We're getting the final planning stages for our trip next week and I feel like I should have been coming here for info months ago. :thanks:

As you've already been told, this is highly frowned upon. These resorts have smallish parking lots and one of the things the guests staying there are paying for is close proximity to the parks. Nothing high and mighty about it. It's a perk they pay for...plain and simple.

Good dad... :cool2:

You may find it much easier to just drive with that stroller. The buses get crowded...especially the Pop buses. I love Pop, and stay there whenever I'm not at Boardwalk. And I think Pop has some of the best bus transportation at WDW. But, there are a lot of people on those buses. If you manage to get to the bus stop about 90 mins prior to park opening then go for it. But if you try to use the bus any time between 60 mins prior to park opening and 30 mins after park opening??? YOu are going to be faced with huge numbers of other people on those buses.
If you drive, you can easily just unfold the stroller and plop the kids in it and head off. At MK, you will have to use either the monorail or ferry, but both allow you to keep the kids in the stroller. If you get there early enough, you should be able to get a spot close to the front and not need to use the tram.

We always drive to the parks regardless of where we stay. IMHO, it's quicker and more convenient. You are not a slave to the Disney bus schedule.

If this is your first visit to the Magic Kingdom at WDW, I personally recommend driving to the park and taking the ferry or monorail to the MK. This is because Disney is all about the pre-show, and the pre-preshow is the excitement of crossing the lagoon. It is great and the way it was done for decades, so you'll get the full picture.

Besides, you will need to fold the stroller and drag it on the bus, which can be a hassle. The ferry is the equivalent of a roll-on roll-off car carrier (much smaller, though ). You enter via a wide ramp on one side and exit via a ramp on the other. Literally a straight line, with a pause in the middle while the boat sails. The monorail and ferry take the same amount of time to cross, so you aren't loosing time either way. You'll need to roll the stroller onto the monorail car, but it will likely take up a majority of the center area (if you don't need to fold it).

Resort monorails are slower than the express train from the TTC, as the resort monorails stop at the resorts, which takes time.

Finally, if you drive, everyone will have a seat on the way home. After treking about all morning, it is nice to simply sit in the car seat and let the muscles relax for a bit, even if you are the driver it has an effect. Definitely a positive, especially if the little ones are sleeping.

Good luck and have fun!

As far as driving to the parks versus taking the disney buses, I suggest trying it both ways. Since it's your first disney experience, it might be less stressful to let disney do the transporting to the parks. We've been in your shoes with a double jogger so we can totally relate. It's not that bad on the buses, really -- you'll get some people who will frown at you for having a double jogger, but in my opinion it's better to have the kids cozy and comfortable. :thumbsup2

One note, if you drive you will still have to fold and drag the stroller onto the parking tram or walk all the way. Though if you get to the parks early that shouldn't be a problem since you should be upfront.
