Just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Plaza using your points with the conceirge collection? We are thinking about trying to think about next years vacation...

We stayed three years ago and it was wonderful. It's an experience!! We're staying again the weekend after Christmas because we're attending a wedding in NY. When the family sent out the info and the prices of where to stay, I politely asked if they minded if we stayed at the Plaza instead. Their mouths dropped open, but for us it was so much cheaper than $200 a nite for a mediocre hotel in Manhattan. Have a wonderful time and enjoy. We love the Plaza. Of course, you'll have someone tell you to rent the points and all that, but use them and savor the experience of staying at one of the world's premier hotels.

If you are staying in NYC there are few places like the Plaza. It is a great hotel in a fantastic location. Dinner in the Oak Room, Afternoon Tea, Carriage ride in the park ... Our favorite

We stayed at the Plaza last December between Christmas and New Year's. The hotel and location was wonderful BUT I will never stay there again during that time period. The hotel itself is a tourist attraction during the holidays. There were times we had to stand in line to get into the hotel. We then would have to show our key to prove residency. The lobby becomes chaotic during the late morning to early evening with everyone trying to have tea in the Palm Court and looking at the decor.

Also there was no place, other than room service, to get a cup of coffee. I couldn't sleep one morning. I showered, changed and headed downstairs at 5:30am and couldn't get a cup of coffee to go. So I had to sit in the Palm Court and have my $6.00 cup of coffee. Now don't get me wrong, it was peaceful and the ambience was wonderful but not really what I was looking for.

We went back to NYC this past August and stayed at the New York Hilton. I loved the hotel and the location. We stayed club level and it was perfect! I would recommend this to anyone going to NY.

We stayed there last summer on DVC points. It was an awesome experience. Our room was gigantic, even with a rollaway bed, we had so much room. We've been to NYC many times and usually stay in the Times Square area in a tiny little room. It was so nice to be right across the street from the park. We've never spent so much time walking in the park as we did that trip. The Plaza is certainly not the most economical way to use points, it was a chunk, but we could have never afforded that luxury otherwise. It was a nice treat.

Coincidentally, we stayed there during the time that dbond did. We met up while watching some street performers.:teeth:

We had a beautiful room. It was huge, we had a king bed and there was a marble fireplace. Sure, it was a lot of points, but we needed to use them and the city is just a train trip away.

The best part, I can say I stayed at the Plaza.:snooty: :teeth:

I agree it is not the best use of points but there is something to be said abuot making a reservation like that with no cash outlay or working to exchange the points.

My DH has said time and time again, if we were ever in a position to lose points, we'd use them to sleep at the Plaza and then just get up and go across the street to work the next morning LOL

My husband and I stayed there a while back.... LOVED IT! It was quite an experience, a lot of points, but it was easier to part with them then cough up the big bucks to stay there. We even had a 'park' view. Large suite. For us worth it, for our son, Charlie was born just 9 short months later.....

The restraunt and Osyster bar are quite pricey, but everything in NYC is.... The cheapest beer we found was aboard some sunset skyline boat trip, go figure.

Sorry to resurrect this, but what kind of points are you saving/redeeming for rooms at The Plaza? And where do you get them? TIA

This is an old thread- I am pretty sure the Plaza has been converted to over 50% condos and has been removed from the DVC trade collection. The rooms are now more limited than before and cost around $1000 on a weeknight for a room for 2 people. I would love to know how many points people were using back in 2003 for a night.

It sounds like that Oyster Bar was really, really pricey, but worth it.
(i'm sorry, I couldn't help it on that one.)
