BoardWalk Inn: Club Level Review and Photos

OMG! What a coincidence! Why didn't you say 'hi'?:rotfl: Well, at least you have great legs:thumbsup2. I always worry when posting my photos publicly that I might post a photo that includes a person in the background who will be upset that they're in the photo. I'm relieved that you're not angry with me:flower3:. I might have to have people sign releases from now on:scratchin

I've never tried CL at AKL and would love to read your impressions. Will you be posting from AKL or after you get home?

Yes, I think bare feet runs in families:rotfl: - must have been Mom...

I last stayed CL at CR in August of '10. I must have posted my review to the 2010 CR thread. If you can't find the review on the old CR thread, just PM me and I'd be happy to give you my impressions or if others want to read it here, let me know and I'll write one up for this thread.

Yeah, you're here! Yes, it's a different feel at the Epcot Resorts, and that's neither bad nor good - just different. I think all WDW Resorts have their pluses and minuses and everyone values them a little differently. And, as YOU know BEST, what you value today, you might not value as much tomorrow...or in ten minutes...:rolleyes1

I'm glad you liked my review, SRUAlmn. I guess we were lucky at breakfast compared with your experience a few years ago. In case you don't know, all of the WL rooms have just begun being rehabbed. The rehab has started with one wing of the CL floor and will be completed by the end of September. I think you will find the new decor to be much lighter. We have been very happy with their CL, but we also love the theming and coziness. Maybe you'll join us on the WL thread sometime!

Thanks so much for posting your review, DonaldDuckFamily. We did take the buses from WL to DTD and the MK and they weren't crowded at all. I think the difference is that WL is the first picked-up and dropped-off and for the MK, it doesn't share a bus with another resort. For the other parks it only shares with the GF. BWI shares with too many resorts, IMHO. But, you can walk/boat to Epcot and DHS and you figured out to get off at the Swan and walk back:thumbsup2

So happy you got just the view you requested. I'm sorry, too that we didn't get to see each other. I'm glad you loved the review and thanks again for posting yours:goodvibes

Yes, 4 months from today reads my ticker:hyper:. You're so right that the only way you really know how you feel about a resort is to try it for yourself. And, there are so many factors that we can't control that can affect your stay such as crowd levels, CMs and the weather.

Thinking about our short YC/CL stay and comparing it with BWI, I would stay at the YC/CL again before BWI/CL.

~The lounges are about the same size and the food seemed about the same.

~I believe that YC had a fridge, which I prefer over a tub of ice.

~I much preferred being near the beach rather than near the BW.

~I liked the health club at BWI because it doesn't share with another resort, like BC/YC does.

~I like that YC has a QS and I also prefer the YC's theming/lobby and overall atmosphere over BWI.

~I didn't like looking out at the roof top when in the CL hallway at the YC.

~We prefer a CL where the entire floor is CL and not just part of the floor, like at BWI.

~Also, the YC's CL is on the top floor(5th), whereas BWI's CL is on the 4th. I like being on the top floor better because then there isn't any potential noise above us.

~I also appreciated that when I asked a CL/CM at the YC if they had Sprite Zero, she told me that they didn't and later when we returned to our room, there was a 12-pack of Sprite Zero on the desk. I thought this was great customer service on their part, and I didn't even ask them to get some for me.

I think an Epcot/MK split is great, but BWI just wasn't for us. I think it's great though to be able to walk to Epcot and DHS for a few days and then head over to a MK Resort to spend time on the beach and go to MK and FW. Best of both Worlds;)

Hope this helps you, mickeynut1. I hope you're having fun planning your trip!

Thanks for the info on the Yc club level. I agree with you on trying a resort for yourself. I think sometimes you need to even try it twice. Like you said a bad room, weather, etc etc etc can affect your opinion. It seems you have found a home in WL. That's a resort I need to give second chance.

I have never seen CM's say much either ... and I've stayed at most of the Deluxe Resorts/CL and they all seem to have their fair shre of rude guests. :confused3
I wouldn't be surprised if they were instructed just "let it go"
On two separate trips, I've seen a CL CM at WL tell a guest politely that footwear is required to enter the lounge. This trip, I saw two children barefoot eating at Roaring Fork, and no one said anything to them there nor did anyone say anything to the two women who wore their CL robes into the lounge one morning:sad2:. I think the difference is that lack of footwear is a state code violation, and wearing robes and nightgowns is just a common sense violation, and the former is rarely enforced and the latter is never enforced, much to the dismay of most guests.

It might help if the "Welcome letter" you receive from the BWI/CL was firmer about its lounge etiquette rules. This is from the letter you receive when you check-in at BoardWalk Inn:

"When visiting the lounge, may we suggest footwear and cover-ups for swim wear." This is a question rather than a statement. This is from the Wilderness Lodge's welcome letter:

"When visiting the lounge, footwear and cover-ups for swim wear is required."

I think you're right that all the CL lounges have their fair share of rude guests :sad2:. I also wouldn't be surprised if the CMs were told to not make waves and to let certain things go as you said.

I agree :thumbsup2.

I love the WL as well as Roaring Forks, but I sure wouldn't go in there barefoot :scared1:. And the ladies in the lounge wearing their CL robes in the lounge :sad2:. I would have thought all CL lounges would have the same guidelines, but obviously they don't by the way the welcome letters read.

Resort choices and enjoyment are so very much a matter of personal perception.

The only thing I can agree with you about is those dumb little buckets giving the canned drinks an ice bath---they do need a refrigerated unit in the lounge.

As for the rest of your review---different people experience the same thing in different ways. I have stayed in that room, but did not hear noise from outside or foot traffic inside.

Staying outside the keyed door was a challenge for me....my quest was always to get to the door and insert my key before the cast member could push the button to open the door. I usually won.

Love the theming and decor of BWI---I find it nothing at all like GF. BWI is very comfortable, and I found GF rather stilted. All a matter of personal likes and dislikes.

I always find the lounge comfortable and roomy, and the cast members the best and most helpful that I have encountered. I have enjoyed the lounges at CR, GF, AKL, BC, Poly, and WL.....and still think that the Boardwalk Innkeepers are outstanding.

I am sorry that your BWI/CL experience was not the best, and appreciate your honest review. Glad you had a wonderful experience at Wilderness.

I really appreciated the photos. I am not able to get to Boardwalk, as I am taking care of my very ill Mother. I miss the place very, very much, and the photos made me smile, especially when I caught a glimpse of one of the cast members.

Thanks Kook for your review. BWI has never been on my Radar- Scary Clown pool :scared1: For an Epcot resort we loved BC last Aug. I think I could see our balcony from one of your photos  We had a GV CL room above the Volleyball court and faced BWI if we looked to the right off our balcony!

I can't believe people show up barefoot in the lounge  Just the thought of walking barefoot in a hotel hall is yucky to me. Reminds me of the Key WEst restaurant sign- No shirt, no shoes, no service! And no fridge in the lounge?
Yikes. We loved the BC lounge, and they did have different selections daily.

There was a Diser who was at BC CL the same time as I was, but hated the BC CL, felt BWI CL was far superior and moved. From your review, I just can't see it.

Great pics, and what a balcony. Think that was the only thing better- huge balcony. Too bad about the sign and Boardwalk noise :( And the boat horns, yikes! I always love listening to the boat horns in the distance at WL, feels like I'm home when I hear them!

My thoughts are confirmed, I'm giving BWI a miss. Much prefer BC/YC- so much quieter. Better pool too!

Welcome back! So glad to see your review and thank you for posting it! We will be trying out BWV for the first time this summer for a few nights. I've never tried CL at any WDW resort but do all the time for work when I travel. I much prefer a fridge than the bucket of ice too!

Did you take any photos or have any reviews of the amenities? Like the pools, activities, Belle Vue Lounge, etc? Thanks again!

Hi ya Kook!

Sorry, you didn't have that great of a time at BWI. It does have it's pro's and con's, so I do see what you are saying.

We loved the CM's there, but the food was "okay". The resort is beautiful and our view was gorgeous. But I like the YC beach area, and "area and resort" in general at the YC. Love Storm a Long Bay! That can't be beat. The clown pool was not attractive to me, but their quiet pool was pleasing to look at, but no comparison to SAB.

That was the first CL we have been too! We have stayed at the CL, GF, Poly, YC, WL but never any of the Concierge Lounges. Your photo's of the WL are gorgeous and the CL food and lounge look really good. The only thing we didn't like was the resort room..lol!

Have you ever stayed at the Poly or CL or GF conceirge lounges? Would love to hear about them.

Anyway, thanks for the honest review. Sorry you had to look at adults in the PJ's and putting feet on the coffee table. I think I would have said something! LOL! That is really uncalled for!

Hope to talk to you soon!

Brunette

 Kook!

Thank you for taking the time to share your BWI CL experience - the photos from your room are fabulous!

I've always been very wishy washy about BW - hate the clown pool and would not want a BW/Lake view for exactly the issues mentioned in your review. Also, in general, I've never been a fan of the BW area. We did enjoy our BC stay, but that was because of the short and lovely stroll to International Gateway. We stayed in a studio villa - view was of the main entrance, mostly blocked by trees - so just okay because we could not people watch...which we find more interesting than tree watching.:rotfl: Our room was close to the elevator and quiet...but the first room assigned to us was at least half way to the Studios! No kidding either.

So, while I would go back for a short trip, it is not a fave and I can udnerstand your being underwhelmed.

I just feel more at home staying at an MK resort. All four feel like home to me, even though I do have favorites. It is so peaceful over there...the Lagoon and Lake...much prefer the ambiance to the EPCOT area resorts.

Thanks again for a very nice review.:thumbsup2

Just a note that the CM has been for the last year trying to get a refrigator in lounge believe me they want one just as much as the guests. I have found the noise I have heard come from the guest whose kids talk loudly & think it is ok at midnight. MHO. I know it is Disney but no need for that kind of noise at that time at night from anyone. People are trying to sleep :)

I am sorry that the BWI Club level was not to your liking. Not for everyone. I happen to love it there & love all the CMs there. They are like family to me.

Everyone has their resorts & that is fine and it is nice to try other ones out to see if you like another one...

Huh--so weird! I could have sworn I posted a reply last night. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for such an honest review. I'm going to request a garden view room, with a balcony, down the hall. Anyone know how best to phrase that?
You did post a reply, but the DIS is migrating everything over to new servers so it's been acting-up lately. I'm glad you enjoyed the review:)
Thanks for your trip report WDWKOOK on your recent stay at the BWI Club level.

I do love the BWI Club level & found the staff is to great. But not for everyone as everyone has different views which what make the world goes around. When my DH & myself have stayed there we never had a problem with the CMs but we go two times a year & they are like family to us. I understand your feelings about guests coming into the lounge with no foot wear. We had that happens as well. I think every club level we stayed at had guest coming in in PJ etc even the Wilderness Lodge sorry to say. The last time we were at the BWI several people came in in PJ's & one of the CM said something to them but the manager was there and the CM got a talking to so I think at times their hands are tied. But this is my view.

Again thanks for the great pictures & report. And sorry that the BWI is not for you :sad1:

To mirage0306 ask for a room garden view facing the quiet pool or facing the Epcot area. or ask for even numbers room :)
You're welcome and thanks for answering mirage's question:)

We love bwcl, but different strokes for different folks I suppose. You actually have a photo of my favorite CM! He makes our trips so special. I only had one bad CM when we stayed cl and I politely asked what was up his.... Well you get the picture and once I called him on his attitude it changed. And now I love him too!

When we were last there though was two summers ago. Back then desserts where always from the Bakery downstairs, and my favorite cm would save us those yummy brownies every night!

I hope that it hasn't changed for the worse. We have always stayed inside the door down near the lounge with a boardwalk view. As we were on the 5th floor noise wasn't an issue for us. Sounds like the 4th floor would not be where I would want to be.

Sadly, this year is a budget trip so I am going from bwcl to AoA! Value first timer! It was about $1500 cheaper and this year(college) that matters!
Bennett, who was a WL front desk manager, just moved over to be a housekeeping manager at AoA. I think you'll love it there. Try and say hi to Bennet - he's great!

Thank you for the review and all the pics. We are staying CL @ BW in Dec.
You're welcome and I hope you have a great vacation, Debra!

Yay!! That is GREAT news! I can't wait to see pics of the new decor :) (Are there any on the DIS yet?) We always travel in the summer (since I'm a teacher,) and for some reason the WL has always struck me as a resort that would be more cozy and fun in the winter. Maybe we need a Thanksgiving trip this year :thumbsup2
No photos have been made public yet. The first rooms should be opening up in just a few weeks.

I have heard that about YC CL (as well as BC CL) that the lounge is small and can get packed, especially in the morning. I think there are alot of CL lounges where the CMs don't say much to people not acting appropriately :sad2:. The CMs in RPC are amazing as far as service and being very friendly and courteous, but I've never seen any of them say anything to guests that didn't behave appropriately. That's ok about Poly CL......but just wanted to add that you will LOVE RPC.....it's amazing and the CMs are wonderful :goodvibes.

You will be on your way again before you know it......4 months will go by fast :yay:. Thanks for your input on the comparison of YC CL and BWI CL, it helps alot :goodvibes. I still have a decision to make regarding BWI CL, but at least I have alot of time since that trip won't be until June 2013 ;). But I have to say that one thing I don't care for at BWI is that there are regular standard rooms on the CL floor and it isn't all just CL like the other deluxe resorts. I am having fun planning my trip. I am looking forward to the CR over New Years as well as the cruise next year with the Disney resort stays before and after :dance3:.
You're welcome. You're going to love your cruise!

Thanks for sharing, I love looking at everyone's photos. :thumbsup2
You're welcome, Sammie!

I really appreciated the photos. I am not able to get to Boardwalk, as I am taking care of my very ill Mother. I miss the place very, very much, and the photos made me smile, especially when I caught a glimpse of one of the cast members.
I'm sorry to hear about your mother, but pleased the photos made you smile. I hope you can return to your favorite resort soon.

I never really considered BWI either until I read such rave CL reviews from a former CR Fan... The purpose of my review wasn't to sway people not to stay at BWI, but rather to offer our personal experience and feelings about how we felt staying there, and more specifically, how we felt about their CL. Even if my review might have confirmed how you thought you might feel staying there, I certainly don't want you not staying there because of me. I think it's good to try all the resorts, if you possibly can, so that you know first-hand how you really feel about them.

 You know, I walked up the stairs and past Belle Vue everyday and only took a picture of the sign:

I wasn't at the pool during the activities so I don't have any photos of them, just the Luna Park pool:

Hi, Brunette!

Which resort is "CL?" Do you mean CR - Contemporary? Yes, I've stayed at the Atrium Club, but not Poly/CL or GF/CL. I didn't like the Atrium Club back in August of 2010, but I still love the CR and maybe the Atrium Club has improved since our stay.

I'm glad you liked the review. A big draw for YC/BC is SAB - so many people love it. It was undergoing some emergency work when we were at BWI and a portion of SAB was closed.

This is just how we feel, too. Though we LOVED being able to walk so easily to Epcot and DHS. We really liked doing those two parks while staying at BWI and then doing mostly AK and MK while at WL.

Just a note that the CM has been for the last year trying to get a refrigator in lounge believe me they want one just as much as the guests. I have found the noise I have heard come from the guest whose kids talk loudly & think it is ok at midnight. MHO. Thanks for posting about the fridge. I'm sure it would make all the CM's lives much easier if they had one. I know that BWI CL CMs are like family to many and I think that's what makes so many feel right at home. That's how we feel at WL. It's so nice getting a welcome or good-bye hug and chatting with the friendly CMs. They make you feel like a valued guest and I'm glad you feel that way at BWI:goodvibes

Have you ever stayed at the Poly or CL or GF conceirge lounges? Would love to hear about them.

I'm not KOOK, but we've stayed CL at the GF (both RPC & SL), and while I thought SL was ok, I LOVED RPC :goodvibes. The SL lounge is right inside the lobby when you enter the SL building and was often very crowded, with not alot of seating (IMO) for the amount of people staying there. However, it is convenient to the courtyard pool (which is a big plus), if you spend alot of time at the pool as it's quick and easy to run in to grab drinks or snacks throughout the day ;). The RPC lounge, on the other hand, is spacious with quite a bit of seating and the CMs are amazing....not to mention it's great sitting in the lounge relaxing while listening to the band playing :cloud9:. The food offerings are the same at both, so that was great in either lounge. Another perk to RPC is those guests have access to the SL lounge, but SL guests cannot access RPC. I can't compare GF CL to BWI CL as we've never stayed at the BWI, but I would highly recommend RPC :goodvibes. Poly CL has been on our list to try, but I have read alot of not so good reviews, so that is one that keeps getting pushed further down the list for us :rolleyes1.

You're welcome. You're going to love your cruise!

I am really looking forward to the cruise, but it's hard to wait over a year for it to get here . DH & I have cruised a few times in the past (although not DCL), but the boys have never been, so I'm excited to see how they like it. Have you ever cruised with Disney? If so, I would love to hear about your experience :goodvibes.

WDWKOOK, sorry BW CL wasn't for you. :( I have stayed in 4259 right next door and you are right, the Boardwalk can get loud in the evening. But we love having a beer on the balcony watching the entertainers. :goodvibes The interesting thing is 4259 has a long hall to get to the room itself (corner room) so the noise level of the Inn Keepers check in area wasn't loud for us. I wonder, does 4261 have a hall or do you walk straight into the room? If you walk right into the room I bet you do hear a lot more. That stinks.

We love bwcl, but different strokes for different folks I suppose. You actually have a photo of my favorite CM! He makes our trips so special. I only had one bad CM when we stayed cl and I politely asked what was up his.... Well you get the picture and once I called him on his attitude it changed. And now I love him too!:rotfl2:

I love the pictured CM too. He is so sweet. On our first visit, I brought fruit flavored oatmeal for our then 2 year old DD. Every morning he would be waiting at the door to fix it for her. :thumbsup2

Next week will be our 5th stay in 3 years at BW-CL and I think I know what CM you are referring that had was something up his... He can be hit or miss that is for sure.

We're planning on doing a split stay next year between an Epcot area resort and a Mk area resort. We're 100% certain the Epcot resort will be the BWI.

Looking at your photos it looks like a beautiful resort, and I didn't realise just how close it was to Epcot, DHS and the BC/YC. It doesn't appear to be any further than walking to the opposite side of the World Showcase in Epcot.

The walk around Crescent Lake from BWI to YC/BC is approx 7 minutes at a nice pace. From BWI CL to the International Gateway at Epcot it is about the same, 7 minutes once you exit the hotel.

Easy breezy!

You did post a reply, but the DIS is migrating everything over to new servers so it's been acting-up lately. I'm glad you enjoyed the review:)

You're welcome and thanks for answering mirage's question:)

Hi Kook! Yeah I meant to say CR, the Contemporary Resort. You didn't like it in 2010? That's good to know. I would love to try the Poly and GF! The food pics of the WL looks great! Did you enjoy the WL offerings?

I pm'ed you earlier today too, just so you know! :)

I wonder, does 4261 have a hall or do you walk straight into the room? If you walk right into the room I bet you do hear a lot more. That stinks.

Our room was the very last room at the end of the hall on the left, right before you turn right to go to the Innkeeper's desk and enter the Innkeeper's Club. It's in a little alcove of three rooms, closest to the CL desk, but outside the CL door.

I bet you're excited about your upcoming stay and I hope you have a great vacation!

Hi Kook! Yeah I meant to say CR, the Contemporary Resort. You didn't like it in 2010? That's good to know. I would love to try the Poly and GF! The food pics of the WL looks great! Did you enjoy the WL offerings?

I pm'ed you earlier today too, just so you know! :)
I haven't been getting the instant PM notices since the big DIS server migration of 2012:laughing:, but I did just see yours - thanks.

I just finished a WL/CL review for AllEars, but they haven't posted it yet. When it's posted, I'll PM you the link. Yes, we LOVE the food, service and lounge at WL. Once you stay there, you can't help but compare other lounges to it. Did you see the DIS WL/CL review I posted?
