Ok I woke up this morning in a panic! I've read everything here at least 10x over but cannot recall for certain if I absolutely MUST have a passport for my DS to leave the boat in Nassau for Atlantis!!! Yes I have a passport and know the risk if he falls ill etc....I'm not asking which is preferred just if it's necessary. I have his proper long form birth certificate and we have trip insurance via USAA. Please tell me I haven't completely screwed up!!

I didn't get him one because I didn't want to fight over not needing his fathers consent (state law only recognizes mother as legal parent for child born out of wedlock....but it's still always a fight!):furious:

*******DISREGARD I FOUND MY ANSWER!!!!**********

For a minor to leave and reboard the ship, all he/she needs is a KTTW card. You do not need passports and/or birth certificates to get off and on the ship. You only need to show passports/bc when checking in at the terminal.

However, adults must show KTTW card and picture ID when getting off and returning to the ship at any port.

For adults--ANY government issued photo ID (that means Driver's license, military ID, federal/state government employment ID, etc) plus KTTW must be presented to get on and off the ship. For minors, only a KTTW is needed.

Thanks so much!!

DCL will have a picture of you associated with your KTTW card so, although they tell you to have photo ID with you, I have never been asked for it.

But, for those who have passports, why leave passports on the ship? If you miss the ship, passports in your stateroom are useless.

Just for future readers of this thread: although you DON'T need a passport on these closed-loop cruises, on a cruise where you DO need a passport, it's presented when you initially embark the ship to ensure you have met the requirement.

You can't go on a cruise needing a passport but say, "Well, I just won't get off the ship in any ports." You won't be able to get on the ship in the first place.
