Have you made a banner for your veranda?

I'm thinking about making a little banner for sail away. Anyone have any pointers?

You mean pointers other than the fact that you aren't allowed to leave anything out on your balcony? Sorry.

The only time we were "allowed" to hang banners was as we went through the locks in the Panama Canal. We had a banner made and brought with us. Some cruisers used bed sheets (don't know where they came from :rolleyes1 )
We hung our banner and the ships photographers walked along the lock taking picture of the different signs/banners.

This was the only time I saw this done.

I've seen a lot of people on Disney ships holding poster boards and even a few banners when watching the Port Canaveral webcam as they sail by Fishlips. After they pass by then they put them down. I ordered mine from Vistaprint. If you get the small one it's free all you pay is shipping. Oh I've also seen flags from different countries. People were holding them off the side of the ship.

Thank you for the useful response. This is exactly what I mean. Why would I have a banner on my veranda at sea? Who would look at it? :confused3

Made this one, but had to change my date so gave it to someone in the FE group.

Also made this one for our door with magnets attached. Our last name is Simpson, lol

Made one for our Panama cruise and I did hold it over the edge so the ship's photographer could get us. Dont have that picture to share tho.

You're welcome. I knew what you meant. I watch the webcam every time a Disney ship leaves. My 8 year old is so obsessed with it. Our banner is simple. I got the small one since it was free. We're going to hold it up as we sail by Fishlips. All it says is Hi Nana, then it has the city and state where we live. My mom is going to watch the webcam the day we leave so she can see her surprise. My son wanted to do the banner so his nana could find us easy.

Just some advise, make sure you use bold font on the banner. I've noticed a lot that were hard to read even when the webcam guy zoomed in. I have a white banner with bond font and used red for the font color.

Those are great, Tami! I wish I was that crafty! And thanks again, Goofy. I'm trying to see what I can do with Vistaprint.

Being that you've watched the web cast quite a few times, do you recommend a particular spot to be in so that your poster board might be in camera view?:confused3 I've told my family to watch the web cam when our ship is departing.

He zooms in and scans all the way down the ship mostly on the pool deck. Make sure to start waving when you get close to fishlips. He'll zoom in really close.

Will do, thanks! :thumbsup2

You can request a "zoom" from the webcam people. I did and they even called me before boarding to make sure where we would be standing. We followed on on iphone and knew when they were getting close and then we waved like crazy. They zoomed right in on us and our family and friends around the country even took screen shots and us. Very cool.

Where can I find this webcam?

http://portcanaveralwebcam.com/

The Magic is there today and will leave out this afternoon. The Fantasy will come in around 4am in the morning and leave out tomorrow afternoon. If you'll look on the left hand side of the page close to the fishlips link you'll see a link that says cruise calendar. That'll tell you what ships are leaving and what day.

Thanks for the info. I'll do that when we sail so our family can see us.

No doubt this will rile a few but I personally dislike ALL variety of posters/banners. (with the exception of passengers waving small country flags) I think they ALL look tacky and make an elegant ship look tacky also. Probably the reason DCL frowns on them.

Wow...which leads me to my next question::confused: What would be a good placed to be if you want to be seen? Does it matter? This is our first cruise. (It will be on the Magic) I'd love for my family to be able to get a glimpse of us leaving port. :wizard:

:headache:

I have a feeling that this is similar to those "what to wear to dinner threads?".
Probably way more an issue here in this forum, than it actually is for Disney.
