DVC Tour

We have wanted to do a tour for a long time...but, having the kids with us always detoured the plan. Well, we are taking a kid free trip next weekend and were thinking about finally getting it done! Just a few questions...

About how long is the tour?

Are they pushy?

Any incentives for taking the tour?

Realistically, we are NOT purchasing when we are down there. I want to be able to SEE what that DVC is about and then make a decision on resale vs not in the comfort of my own home where I can run numbers without someone looking over my shoulder. I just don't want to do it, and regret it based upon a hard sell tactic. Thanks!!!

I went on a tour once and I found my salesperson to be less pushy than a typical timeshare salesman. The tour lasted for as long as I had questions (about 90 minutes) but when I said I was done I was free to go. :) We got three fastpasses each for taking the tour, but incentives vary so I would definitely ask about that beforehand.

Keep in mind though, that this is their opportunity to sell you and they will try. So stick to your guns!

Have you considered to visit a few of the resorts instead of taking the tour?
You might book a few ADR in the resorts you are interested the most and take a few time to look at the resort and maybe you can ask if they have a free room to show you (they have one model unit in BWV, for example).

We took the tour with our 1 & 5 year old with the intentions of just hearing about everything and seeing the AKV mock-up. We were promised 3 fast passes for each person, including the kids. We worked it into our schedule and in advance were told they are not pushy ("because it's Disney") and would last 90min but you could leave at anytime.

Our guide talked quite a bit (was not pushy at all) and the tour was dragging past 90min. They offered to apply 1600$ towards the price because they say thats average of a week at a resort and were basically paying for our room that week. We decided to make the purchase but it was taking an extremly long time and I started getting annoyed. I stepped out to change a diaper and my wife let the "salesperson" know my frustrations with time. After we bought, they ended up giving us about 60 fast passes good for our entire trip. When we used the fastpasses at the fastpass station, we were given tickets that had an immediate use time instead of coming back 6 hours later to ride Toy Story, for example. So we rode Toy Story about 4 times with no line during Spring Break when the wait was 120+. This definitely made up for the time as we basically walked on rides at anytime the entire week. We also were given last years points and were able to get 2 nights at BLT at the end of the trip.

As for bringing kids, our kids are pretty laid back and the salesperson was entertaining so they only started getting restless after being their over the 90mins. If your kids are old enough, they have a secure kid area where they can play with other children, watch disney movies and color. My 5 year old daughter love it and probably would have stayed there all day if she could.

60 fast passes is awesome. We got the dream fast passes at MK on their year of a million dreams celebration and they were awesome, but to have them for all four parks for more than one use per ride is incredible.

The tour on average is about 90 minutes, they are not pushy at all. Actually they were ready to push us out with all our questions...lol. We did not buy on our first tour as we were turned off from the sinks being in the wrong place at BLT and we walk out with 2 $50 gift cards. We did buy this past October after they remodeled BLT sinks and again, they were not pushy. They took us to the resorts to see the real thing so we could see the improvements with our own eyes. and we walked away with 15 immediate use fastpasses.

I highly recommend taking the tour just to get your questions answered. Take home the information and really look at how you would use your points, what time of year you prefer travel, type of accommodation you prefer-studio vs 2 bedroom, it all makes a difference as to how many points you want to buy into.

Good luck and enjoy!

That is the best thing I have ever heard.

We didn't even use them all and ended up giving them away to people in long lines. We were suprised at how many people had no clue about the fastpass system and had to explain it to them.

A tour is another buying tool but remember that Disney wants you to buy and your tour costs them some bucks. They are very good at selling, they know what to say, how to say it, and they have the ability to make you feel like a bad parent for not buying sooner.

We've taken the tour twice. The first was in 2009 and they were selling AKV and BLT. I believe that the tour took about an hour or two. We got 2 $15 Disney gift cards, which was nice. There was a minimum point purchase to buy which was 160 points. At the time we were interested but wanted to wait to see if we were really going to vacation in the same place for so long. We took the tour again in November of 2011 just to see if anything had changed and got 4 $15 Disney gift cards (now with two kids) and 30 instant fastpasses. They also were selling SSR along with AKV, BLT, and Aulani. We told the guide our situation and what we were looking for in vacations and he suggested to us that SSR would be the best option for us because of the low point cost and low dues. We asked about resale and he did mention that there were restrictions to resale contracts and that we only be allowed to use those resale points to stay at the DVC properties and RCI exchanges. He didn't seem to pushy when we brought up the resale question and basically said that Disney treats you the same whether you buy resale or direct. We did buy a small contract at SSR at that time through DVC, but when we add on in the future we'll more than likely go through a resale company. Hope this helps!

I recommend signing up for a tour at your resort where they are likely to have the incentive. Ours was $100 gift card 2 years ago. The tour was 2-3 hours but we had a ton of questions.

We got treated to ice cream after the tour! They picked us up at our breakfast (CR) and they drove us to DTD afterward. They were not very pushy but left the room for longs periods of time and DD got restless. We told them we could not purchase now but were expecting a large raise in fall 2011 and inheritance that may lead us to a future purchase.
