I'll make a deal with you... I'll tell if you if it will get cheaper if you can give me the winning power ball numbers for tonight.:rotfl2:

There are a LOT of factors that determine airfare. No one can say with ANY certainty that prices will go down or go up. Unfortunately it's a gamble.

In my OPINION, prices will continue to rise. If it's currently a price you can afford, book and don't look back. If you can't afford the price, don't book, hope prices drop, but come up with a back up transportation plan.

I feel your pain. My trip is not until December. Some flight are more than double than what we paid last December. There is no way I will pay $400 plus per person.

I bought at 4+ months for our June trip and I've only watched the prices go UP since then. I just checked Expedia and 2 months out the cheapest I can find is about $120/pp more than I paid. The old rules about when to but plane tickets appears to be "dead".

I'd take a look at the available seat chart. If there are alot open, it may go down. Also take a look at the fare classes. On Delta, T U & L are the lowest.

I've found the exact same thing. Our airfare has always been $300-$375 tops.

It is now $570 and up. And that is not even date specific. I've looked at all months for this year, various dates in each month, and they're all high no matter what month/day I search.

Too pricey for this family of five. Not gonna happen. :goodvibes

Isn't 4th of July in 3 1/2 months? Peak holiday dates? The flights are as likely to sell out as go down.

I've been tracking via Hipmunk my one way flight down to MCO from RDU for 02SEP2012.

Since 09MAR2012 the flight on Delta which I want to go on has ranged in price from $131 to $278. If this flight goes back down to $131 or less, I'm buying my tickets!

My suggestion is to price your flight two or three times a day, every day, and be ready to purchase when the fare is acceptable to you.

Business flyers are back, there are fewer flights, and airlines have learned that the only way to make money is to fly FULL planes.

I have seen some really weird things lately with flights. Seen where booking next week is cheaper than next month or even 3 months out.

Airlines wanna fill the plane so last minute they may go down but also the plane may fill quickly as somebody is willing to pay more than you and they grab that last seat.

I'd look several times a day and jump when the price goes down or you see it trending up.

In my personal experiences and searching around, airfare is usually cheapest approx two months before you leave (also on a tuesday or wednesday haha). But like said above, it really all depends on many factors.

The problem is that with the airlines cutting back the number of flights, they don't have a lot of empty seats to fill. I read that this travel season it's expected that the AVERAGE flight in the US will be ~85% full.
