*** OFFICIAL January 2013 Thread ***

Thank you for adding me. We bought SSR site unseen too. We went to the Boardwalk to do the paperwork though, that was in 2004. I would love to try some other resorts one day but my 14 year old loves SSR and refuses to stay anywhere else! What a little Disney snob I am raising :cool2:

We live in the Poconos so it is a long drive but we have a great time doing it. The ride home not so much:rolleyes:

We should meet up while we are down there! I have never met a fellow disboard member, that would be so much fun!!

I'm sure your son would love some of the other resorts too. Maybe you can take an afternoon in your trip to go explore some of the others? Just a thought.

We've been to all the Disney DVCs except Wilderness Lodge (although we stayed in a regular room there) and honestly, we love them all. They each have some great bonuses and we've just been so surprised by how we like them all. Boardwalk is probably my least favorite, only b/c of the lack of elevators at the ends of the building, so when you come from the parking lot with a stroller you have to go through the main lobby each time. Made it a lot of extra walking.

Beach Club is great for walking to Epcot and of course the huge, wonderful Storm along Bay pool.

Our 2 favorites are AKV with a Savannah view, Kidani and Bay Lake Tower.

But SSR and OKW are great too.

The way I see it, we'll always try for our two favs -- AKV and BLT, first but if they aren't available, then it's no problem.

We used to go to a church camp every summer in the Poconos! It's called Pinebrook so I'm somewhat familiar with the area.

For our January 2012 trip, I organized a Dismeet at the DHS EMH-PM Dance Party and it was a great time. The kids could dance away and us moms had a brief time to chat. Then everyone went their own way. The EMH was not busy at all and we walked right on the rides afterwards. (You can see some pics from my TR below, if interested). We met up with 3 families and had just missed one of the families by a few minutes. It starts at 7pm and goes until 10pm. I was surprised that my 2yo and 6yo stayed up for the whole thing (but we did take naps earlier in the day).

We plan to do the dance party again so this may make a great dismeet and it's early enough that people can plan to be in DHS that day, if they wish and don't have PH.

Add me to the list please!

We haven't made our reservations yet, but we're planning on January 10th through 17th off-site at Windsor Hills!

I'm not sure if the entire family is going or if it's just me and my two girls (my oldest has a long winter break from college so I intend to take advantage of it!).

Will make reservations once the park hours are released in late June / early July.

But the planning process has begun! :cool1:

Awesome! I'm doing my first Mommy and Me trip with my then DD7 in July and can't wait! This will be this first time DD and I go away without the rest of the family.

FYI -- I'm by Dulles Airport in NoVA ... where are you?

I would love to one day do a mommy & me trip with each one of my boys. If the DH doesn't get off this "well since we are going in June, we're not going in January" line of thinking, our January trip may just be a mommy & boys trip. :lmao:

Hey, that would be an awesome trip to take with your boys, too!

I'm learning that when DH is being a grouch, that I can't coax him to come along and still have fun...ruins it for everyone. So if your DH doesn't want to go either, then you all should go!:thumbsup2

Also, didn't you tell DH that you can' possibly cancel January trip ... there are too many Dissers/FB relying on you to go!!:rotfl2::lmao:

Actually I have told him that. :lmao: I said, "I started one thread on the DIS about going to WDW in January 2013 and I am a co-admin for the FB page for DIS'ers going to WDW in January 2013 and so whether you like it or not Buck-o this trip is happening, with or with out you." Which honestly made me break out into song with him to the tune of U2's "with or with out you". I was like "we'll go to Disney World, with or with out you." I won't do that again. The man tried to ban me from watching Glee and Smash. I tend to make up songs like that to tunes that get stuck in my head.

I'm in Fredericksburg! I have two sisters-in-law who live in South Riding! :)

I agree with this! I'm a huge Disney fan .. and so are my girls. The hubby and my two sons could take it or leave it.

So I'm really tempted to take a trip with just us girls where we can be at the park from rope drop to fireworks every day! (That would drive my hubby and the boys crazy!)

I can't wait for the packages and pricing for January to come out! I might stay on-site if it's just the three of us. I've never stayed on-site before. If it's the entire family, then we need to stay off-site in order to have the full kitchen and enough beds for everyone.

I can't believe I didnt know about this thread! See what happens when I stay away from the boards!!!!

As for a mommy and me trip, I was just telling DH yesterday that I was going to take youngest DD and run away for the weekend to WDW :lmao: He was fine, not so sure the other kids would be though :rotfl:

This is too funny! I can just picture you singing it now! :rotfl:

Very cool! Have you ever done the Autotrain? We discovered it a few years ago and have been taking the train ever since! Love it! We would always fly and rent a car (personally we don't like the busses with small kids, strollers, diaper bags, etc). Then we tried driving it once -- didn't like that either.

South Riding is just 15 minutes or so from me!

I hear ya! I would love to go early to late! Since my DD6 won't be able to do that yet, we'll still take a break in the afternoon.

We've stayed both on-site and off. Then my DH suggested we buy DVC and I can't believe I actually struggled with the $$$. It's a lot up front but to us it is totally worth it. We love having the full kitchen, washer/dryer and separate bedrooms for us and the kids. And more importantly for me -- knowing that we'll go to Disney every year or at least every other year!!

I can't believe I didnt know about this thread! See what happens when I stay away from the boards!!!!

Yeah, Kim and I each made a January thread in two different sections and didn't know about the other. Then we just decided to keep both to 'capture' everyone for January.

I haven't told my youngest (3yo) that my July trip is just the older DD and I. She wouldn't understand at this point. She will be going to Nana/Papa's in PA so hopefully she'll have a good time with them, too.

DH will get 3 days by himself (but work days) and then 4 days with just the youngest.

I hope you get a chance to take a mommy and me trip to Disney!!:thumbsup2

I can't wait for the packages to come out. Hopefully, we'll get a bounceback offer, so it'll convince my DH to book before we leave. Then if they come out with FD, we can change it to that.

I'm glad you find this thread.

I would love to run away for the weekend to WDW. Maybe I can do that one day, after I have my degree, are working, and we have bought into DVC.

My dad just altered the reservations to make the trip I wanted for this coming Jan! Check is in 12/30 so techniclly the trip starts in December even if the rest of it is in January. We check out the day after the marathon (which I am running in) on the 14th. I am so unbelievably happy, I had all but given up seeing the New Year's fireworks at Magic Kingdom when I realized Disney had changed the race date by moving it back a week. Dad says we are going somewhere else on the trip (not sure where he means since he didn't actually say according to Mom but most likely he's referring to the doctor's appointment that I need to have before school starts in AL) but who cares its still a little less than two weeks at Disney (and a day at Wizarding World if I have anything to say in that hotel reservations on US site or or not). That's more than I ever imagined staying in one trip. :woohoo: :woohoo: Especially since neither of my parents are exactly really big Disney fans (hoping to maybe change that with this trip, with Mom at least, as it stands right now Dad says he isn't coming). My Mom's all ready protesting the thought that she will probably have to spend the entirety of New Year's Eve in MK even though I have explained to her twice (she is not a park goer period). Ideas to help keep her from overtiring herself would be greatly appreciated. Will be starting a PTR probably sometime in the near future.

Two weeks in WDW sounds like Heaven. :cloud9: I have never been at WDW during NYE so I can't offer any advice. I noticed your siggy. Grats on all the hard work you must be doing to drop that amount of weight. My DH and I just started walking to get in shape for our June trip. Hopefully, by the time we go in January, my rear won't be as Pooh sized as it is now.

How have I missed this thread?? :thumbsup2

Well, you are a Butterlfy and they tend to flitter around. Maybe I need to get my super glue out and stick you to this thread. :lmao:

Thanks! I actually need to update that since I put some weight back on but I am being a bit stubborn on that front hope to have a bunch more off before summer starts.

And it does sound like heaven. I'm still partly in shock its actually happening. And I am going to need our off site days before June so I can plan our ADRs accordingly. I have pretty much an outline of what I want to eat and when (I got bored and did this before my Dad even agreed to the trip, yeah I was a little bit too hopeful in actuality but eh a girl can dream, and it does look like with an exception of a couple of days I will actually get to put that plan into place). Now I just have to keep myself from driving my Mom insane concerning WDW in the next eight months. She's all ready getting tired about my early babbling about the trip and were only in April.

Debating whether or not to talk to parents to get a Premium Passport for the two of us. A bit expensive but counting the regular ticket prices with park hopper and water park option plus the Disneyland trip in Sept and how much I usually am in CA normally anyway for doctors appointments (at least two to three times plus other trips) it could very quickly pay for itself. This is not going to be a cheap trip (impossible to do at Disney plus we are staying at POFQ (when I originally suggested the NYE plan I was thinking the new AoA imagine my shock when I discovered dad went with the more expensive but familiar hotel (we stayed there last Jan and loved it))) but it will be definetely be a blast and hopefully my Mom will have fun too.

wow! 2 weeks in Disney is a great thing!! I think the best thing about your trip will be to NOT try to rush around doing it all. Really limit the parks and what you are doing each day so no one gets exhausted, esp people who are not your typical park goers (i.e., mom and dad).

As for NYE, since you'll be going in the park early and not leaving (for fear of not getting back in), I would definitely make two different ADRs...maybe a late breakfast or early lunch and a dinner, if you can do it. This way you aren't fighting the crowds for CS and allows you to have a nice sit-down meal, away from the crowds a bit and will help break up the day.

Maybe go over in the afternoon to Tom Sawyer Island and try to grab one of the rocking chairs overlooking the river and just let you mom/dad relax and sit. Or try for one of the ones over by Country Bear Jamboree (if they are still there).

It may not be the most exciting thing but will help make the day not feel so crowded and rushed.

Wow, it sounds like the Premium Passport may be a definite money-saver for you. I would figure out all the costs and add them up to see which saves you money. And then present that to your parents. If they aren't going as much as you then maybe a regular annual pass for them and the premium for you.

We love POFQ ... then again, we love all the resorts as each one has their own fun. We've stayed at them all except for Pop Century (will stay in July), Grand Floridian (prob will never stay there) and of course the new AoA (hope to stay there in January).

Why not do a split stay at least at two ... or maybe even three resorts? This way you can do AoA, POFQ and maybe even a Universal hotel for their Front of Line pass, or try another Disney hotel?

This may also be easier for your dad to join in for just a few days and he gets to pick the hotel (FQ) for the time he is there. Also, if you do a split stay, you may want to add the dining plan for just a few nights (like just the AOA portion, etc) and then schedule your more expensive meals for during the dining plan.

Anyway, just a thought.

I'm going onto disneyworld.com to try to get prices for January and it's not letting me put the dates in for any week starting January 5th - January 12th... does anyone know why? Or if the dates aren't available to be booked yet, does anyone know when we can see prices for packages?

The prices will be out this summer. Hopefully before we have to book our ADRs. What I have been doing in order to price our trip, is I look at see what pricing season that I am going in. Then I pick dates for this year that are with in the same level of pricing season. So, if my dates fall in a value season, I look up dates in this year's value season for the same days. Meaning if my trip is a Saturday through Friday trip, I make sure to price a trip that includes those days. I know that it will not be the same exact prices as for next year, but it will give you a ball park figure.

I've always read that if you are going to be in the parks 11 + days ( I think that was the number of days) that it is actually better to get the APs. Plus if we don't get any good discounts for January, you might as an AP holder.

Anyway, just a thought.

Dad's all ready put down the min deposit (spotted it when reading the email) so I don't know how that will effect the split stay. Hell I thought we were doing AoA (the one value hotel my parents actually seemed to like (they took one look at the outside of Pop on the last trip and said no I though since AoA was newer it would be better)) until I saw the reservations since it was cheaper. I was surprised, happy, but surprised. I may suggest a split stay but I am not so sure how big Mom will be on it (she's willing to head over to US for a night (or was on the last trip, I'm hoping to just convince her for a day at the park (I will pay for the Universal Express if need be, I have paid for those kind of services in the past (Six Flags))) because we just had to pack an overnight bag) but she doesn't always like switching hotels in a trip, period.

I actually forgot about Tom Sawyer but will definitely keep it in mind (I've only been over to the island at either resorts once during my trips to DLR and WDW). As long as we could find a good shady rocking spot (shade and indoors is pretty important for us, her a bit more than me, I get pre cancerous melanomas and she's flat out had second stage skin cancer before) I'm pretty sure Mom would love it. And anything that will make the day not so crowded and rushed my parents will definetely enjoy (as my Mom keeps reminding me, I have older parents (early 60s))

For NYE meal wise I was actually think Crystal Palace for breakfast LTT for lunch (went there on Princess trip and loved it) and CRT for dinner (I know people have had iffy experiences there but I went last time and the food was good to me, plus I'm kind of dying to have dinner there once, not literally but you get the idea but I think it would be nice to do something nice for dinner and this strikes me as one of the nicer places in the park or at least it did last February). Most park days won't be three meal days (expense and time), two at the most on most days (home made snacks for the others). I can actually go a while without eating in a park when I want to. There's one day (race day) where I basically will have one actual meal (something light before and after the race, then I will be going into the parks post race to enjoy the Disney aspect of run disney since I'm missing Marathon Monday this year).

I've always read that if you are going to be in the parks 11 + days ( I think that was the number of days) that it is actually better to get the APs. Plus if we don't get any good discounts for January, you might as an AP holder.

I'm waiting to see how many offsite days we will have, probably not even in FL before bringing up an AP. Oh well the later I wait the more likely I'll have when I probably do the Disneyland Half in 2013 (I love Disney races, can you tell). Or can talk my parents into renewing it for them. But as it stands right now until I know officially how many days we will be in the parks and how much we could save getting an AP I imagine the conversation with my Mom going more like 'You want to get what?!' Mainly because while I understand that an AP would be a money saver with the races I don't think my parents will until I can present cold hard concrete facts.

ETA: After a quick conversation with Dad which revealed that he was actually thinking we would just stay on site for the entire 15 days -squeal- I cautiously broached the subject of the Premium Passport with my parents giving a price breakdown of how much the passports would cost versus just buying multiple regular tickets. And ... we are going to get them!!!!! We won't get them until right before the Disneyland trip but I am actually going to get an AP!
