Want to buy DVC, newbie, pls advise

Pomme;131420]I'm interested in buying DVC, i have been reading about it and i have my thought abou thoe to use it, could you please advise if it works... In reality.

I live in Thailand
Preferred destination that I tend to visit often (every year or every two year) is Hawaii, Tokyo Disneyland.
Destination that i plan to visit in the future - Disney World - dont know which resort yet. And may be in California as well.


After some reading online, DVC Aulani is available with promotion - with every 100 point u will get free 20 points. I also check the point chart and thought i will buy 200+40=240 which i can stay at Hawaii and Tokyo Disneyland for a few nights. The question is..

Should i buy Aulani? The only benefit of the home resort is able to book 11 months in advance? If so, i dont mind much about that. What i am concern is, is other resort cheaper?
when i buy from Aluni, can i buy more point from other resort.


I own Marriot vacation club, which I used to go to Hawaii and i plan to combine it with DVC if i get one. Anyone here know the pros and cons between these two?

Take a few day/weeks to read through the posts on this board and the internet. Tokyo doesn't have a DVC so you would be buying for stays at Aulani. I suggest that you vacation there first before you consider buying there.

I wouldn't buy into the DVC knowing that I would be spending most of my vacation time at only Aulani but that's just me.

When we were looking into the DVC we initially considered Animal Kingdom as our home resort. However, upon further research, we decided upon BLT because It has the lowest yearly maintenance fee per point. although you can book your home resort up to 11 months out and all other resorts only 7 months out, I still think the lower yearly fee is something to consider. hope this helps!

Do you still feel the same way with the BLT 8.41% dues increase for 2012 and the lower quality of furnishings and hard goods that will require additional dues increases?

When we priced out dues for 2012, they still came out lower than the other resorts. Which every way you slice it, paying an exorbitant amount on dues makes DVC almost not worth it.

But what (I think) Bill is trying to point out is the BLT dues will likely rise at a faster rate than other resorts and may soon catch up with the other resorts (especially if all the hard goods need to be refurbed sooner than anticipated).

the DVC Resource Center has the current rates as well as the history. it's a useful thread for other info as well...
