Driving to Florida...

Okay, and now for something a bit different. I'm thinking of possibly driving from central Mass down to the Delray area in Florida next year...probably in late January. Just the dh and myself, to visit family..and no, there will not be a detour to WDW, sad to say.
So....we are planning on taking a few days to make the trip, and maybe make a few stops along the way on our way home. Any thoughts, hints or such about the best way to do this??? I don't mind driving long distances, while dh thinks that any car trip that is longer than 3 hrs should be changed to flying!! But with the cost of airfares, and the fact that we will want to have a car while down there, it makes more sense to just drive.
Just looking for any advice here. Thanks guys.

OK.. I don't get your question.. are you asking if you should drive or fly.. or are you asking for tips on places to stop :goodvibes

I would drive, I hate to fly. I like you would want my car with me & not have to depend on family to tote me around while there nor would I want to rent a car knowing I had one sitting at home in the driveway.

As far as stopping, I am thinking you are taking 95 down correct? How long do you want to go before stopping? You say January trip, so beaches are out for a stop over. I would have said maybe stop at VA Beach, then one of the Carolina's for their beaches and St. Augustine for sure! I don't know how you feel about going to the beaches in the winter. It can be a different experience. I know you will be staying at Delray but it will be warm there, the others not so warm. I think I would still make an over night stop at St. Augustine, there is so much to see and do there.

Maybe another possibility would be is to stop at some outlets on your way down. Do outlets shopping if you are into that, or antiques maybe. You can search online which towns and cities have good shops. :goodvibes

With time not being a major constraint, I think you should make this trip into an adventure of sorts. I would definitely suggest you split the trip, and drive inland on one leg, and 95 on the other, just to get a different view of the countryside. Decide the route(s) first, then you can find different things that interest you both ways, and plan the drive around those sites. That's how I would tackle the planning. If you need any info on the NC area, or the inland route, feel free to PM me.

Yep, kind of an adventure type thing. I think straight down going to Delray, but maybe a longer trip going home. I want to get off 95 at some points....want to see the coastline along the Carolina's....I hear they are quite beautiful and different from what we have up here in NE.
