Delta carryon question

Hi all,

Its been a long time since we have flown delta. our most recent flights were on southwest and jetblue, and prior to that it was air tran for a few years.

We were planning on doing carryons for our upcoming trip. Each person would have one small suitcase (meeting the correct dimmesions), and one backpack as a personal item.

My youngest is also small for her Age and will need a booster seat for our rental car. Delta website says booster seats are not counted as a carryon item. Is this correct?

We are already planning on checking 1 suitcase and if i had to do 2 its not that big of a deal, but would prefer not to.

Does anyone know what deltas policy would be?

Booster seats are usually not FAA approved as the are ment to be used with a shoulder strap so you cannot use them on a plane. A car seat would need to be FAA approved though.

You should just be able to put the booster in the overhead bin. Make sure the backpacks can fit by your feet as overhead space is limited now that many try to use carry on instead of checked luggage. The last few times we have flow they made announcement about the personal item not being placed in the overhead bins.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, I know the booster cannot be used on the plane. When my girls were smaller they ALWAYS flew in FAA approved car seats. My youngest just needs the booster for the car so the shoulder strap hits her in the correct place (she is short, she gets if from her grandmother!).

We have carried on booster seats in the past (put in overhead bin), but we had less carryon items then. However, I guess we are OK since the website says specifically booster and car seats/child restraints do not count towards carry-on allowances.

Worst case I guess something would be gate checked. I am tempted to check more items, but I am scared of luggage loss (and we going on a cruise prior to disney).... and yes its happened before

I don't know if this helps you in the least but I will mention it in case. By law here my 8 year old requires a booster for car rides. I found a wonderful one that is literally just a padded seat, with no handles. It meets all requirements and can't be more than 5 pounds so I am planning to put it in a carry on or checked luggage if need be. It clips into the restraint clips that are found in almost all vehicles these days (the ones in the folds of the actual car seats)
We have a larger one for more comfort, but this one is great for travel. It does exactly what it is intended to do, which is get him up high enough that the seatbelt is in the correct position. If you run into any problems with your seat I'd be happy to go check the make and model of our travel one. It was about 30 dollars
