If I were to exchange RCI points for DVC property (chances unlikely) would I then be eligible for the dinning plan if applicable? Or does it have to be booked through Disney?

Yes, RCI exchangers can buy the dining plan (no free dining). You arrange that through DVC member services with your exchange and pay for it at the time you reserve it.

There is no free dining with DVC points stays, though. You can purchase the plan through Member Services for all the guests on the reservation for every night of the reservation.

Thanks for the info. Follow up question, are DVC properties available to RCI holders, often. My MOM just "inherited" RCI properties and I have been playing on their web-site trying to figure stuff out. I came across some Disney property for July, Aug. and Sept., do you think more dates will become available, is there a time frame for DVC members to turn in or bank their weeks?

Thanks

You should ask this over on the DVC boards - lots of timeshare user experts there.

Since we're getting into specifics of RCI trades, I'm going to move this over to the DVC - Mousecellaneous board. :thumbsup2

I'm an RCI weeks holder - each of the units I own in Va Beach are worth 16 points - I had to combine 2 units ($100 fee to combine them) and I was able to trade (have to pay an exchange fee of $169) for 1 week in a 1 bedroom at the Beach Club Villas . At the time of my booking in October 2011 - I was able to book an April trip for 32 points. Sometime after I booked I noticed they upped the value of the weeks at DVC resorts so now its over 40 points to book a week.

I checked a few times a day on the RCI website for about a week before I found what I wanted. The inventory comes and goes quickly - but you can "hold" it on RCI for 24 hours before you make a decision. I hate that they upped the points b/c now it would take 3 weeks of my timeshare to trade for 1 week at a DVC resort :(

On the other hand - the Wyndham Bonnet Creek is available on RCI - and worth much less points - I was able to book for a week in Sept in a 1 bedroom for 8 points! I've never stayed at WBC - but people seem to LOVE it on these forums - and they have busses to and from the parks for free! Hope this helps :) - I'm not an expert - but this was my experience - it can get so confusing! Good luck!!

Just adding for clarification -- the values used for RCI Weeks are "Trade Power Units" or TPU for short. Thus, your weeks from Va Beach were worth 16 TPU each or 32 TPU when combined.

RCI Points is a different program and the "points" required for any exchange are generally in the tens of thousands -- not mid-double-digit.

Hope this helps the OP who may trying to reconcile their view of RCI Points to the above post suggesting a successful exchange using "32 points" vs "32 TPU."

As noted, you can get the DDP. You must add it through DVC member services and pay for all in the unit at any time for 7 nights. DVC exchanges aren't that hard to find if you try. A 2 BR will be in the range of 100K RCI points give or take depending on time of year and resort in question. The majority of deposits are 7 months out, I think late Sept is the latest I've seen recently. There was a build deposit sometime last week. OKW and SSR are by far the most available but I've seen all WDW resorts and even a few 3 BR units lately.
