"Business class" travelers question please

We are flying Spirit Airlines in September (using our bonus miles so I splurged for the row #1 bigger seats). On this particular plane, there is no first class and there is only one row of big seats.

My question is when you are in the first row, what do you do with your "personal item" since there is no seat in front of you?
Thank you in advance for responding!

Into the overhead bins.

You will have to put everything you have in the overhead bins during take off and landing. During the flight you would be able to have it out.

keep in mind, with Spirit they charge you to put carry ons in the overhead bins, and i believe with their pricing, they charge more if you pay at the airport vs if you pre-pay, so you might want to check that out.

ETA: Here's the link to their optional fees, in case you need it http://www.spirit.com/OptionalFees.aspx

Doesn't Spirit charge you to even carry it on in the first place whether or not it goes under a seat?

Keep in mind that your handbag will also have to go in the overhead. I really am not happy with that!

All airlines are strict with this, I assume it's an FAA rule. All carryons, including purses, must go in the overhead if there is no underseat storage in front of you. Some airlines give priority boarding to these rows so that you can find a spot.

It is an FAA rule.

(And calling anything Spirit does "Business Class" is misleading. Service will still be Spirit! :rotfl:)

Now if they charge you to use the overhead in this case that's a new low... (not that I would put it past them)

I don't think we should have to worry about this, since we will only have personal items, not "carry ons". Whether or not there is a seat in front of us, our items are small enough to be considered personal items so I wouldn't think there would be a charge, correct?

if you're in the first row, you aren't allowed to put the personal items under your seat, even if they're small, they have to go in the overhead bin. You cannot hold them on your lap, the FA will take them and place them in the bin if you try.

I don't know what Sprirt's policy is regarding charging you for the overhead space in this case is, since you don't have a seat in front of you, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they did charge you for it. That would be low though, even for Spirit, but it wouldn't surprise me. They should let you store it overhead for free.
