Any way to not lose deposit for changing cruise date?

I just got news that I'll be starting a new job on March 19th and that puts my April 25th 5-night sailing on the Magic in jeopardy. I called Disney about switching to an earlier sailing, which means we'd already have to pay the difference since we'd have to switch to a pricier sailing/ship (March 4th 5-nighter on the Dream), but we'd also have to lose our $300 deposit and incur those costs as well.

Unfortunately, we are in the penalty period but we are definitely on a budget so I was just wondering if I have any other options of still sailing but without losing that money.

My guess, either take the original sailing or (if you purchased travel insurance) see if your insurance will cover the cancelled cruise.

Do you only lose the deposit because you are past the window, and already in the "pay in full" window?

Does this also happen if you change the date of a dummy, for example?

Unless you bought trip insurance with a "cancel for any reason" or "cancel for work reasons" component, you're out of luck. Your family could substitute another person for you, but it sounds like you want to go, too! ;)

While I hate to be out money, $300 isn't a terrible penalty. However, the penalty increases as the sail date gets closer, so make your decision before it gets any more expensive.

**Are you looking at the VGT rate @ $2,300 for 2 adults on the March 5 Dream? That's a non-refundable, non-changeable cruise fare, but it's less than the insides at this point.

You can move a dummy booking without penalty as long as it's before the penalty period begins.
