Dining Formal Nights - Anyone like us?

Ok - we're Gold Level Castaway Club members and honestly have always gone to the dining rooms each night (and Palo one night) of each cruise. We had planned to do B2Bs this summer to Canada on DCL but have had to change plans to DH work downsizing sometime in June. We figured we had much more in terms of out of pocket expenses (with hotel and flights) out of New York vs. changing our dates to March and driving to FL (we're from NC).

Fast forward - reservations are moved and we have friends going on the same cruise. The general consensus of the group is that no one wants to dress up this cruise and definitely not to the point of Formal/Semi-Formal Nights.

I'm ok with not packing dresses/suits. We are planning on eating in the Dining Room every other night (7 day Western on the Magic). I understand that Topsiders has a buffet every night.

Has anyone else done a cruise like this? I don't want to upset our servers and YES, we plan to tip the full amount, we just don't want to dress up.

Help - any thoughts good or bad or has anyone else done a cruise like this?

TIA!

Topsiders does not have a buffet at night. They function as a training restaurant and have casual sit down service at any time you choose to show up. And it is totally GREAT. Seriously, people think I'm crazy, but the food quality was better than downstairs. We did miss our MDR servers, but the food was better as was the view and the quietness.

That said, you are under no obligation to wear formal dress on formal night. It is "suggested." We do dress, but many people opt not to do so.

As kcashner said, it's up to you whether you respect the attire request/s or not. Others dress how they feel more comfortable all the time (within reason!) and are allowed in the MDR restaurant's.

As your Gold CC member's you know that Palo and Remy have STRICT dress code's however. I would just make sure that is clear to your friends if they think about wanting to make a reservation there.

We have dressed up in the past for the formal and semi formal nights but do not anymore. Works for us!

On our last cruise, we scheduled Palo brunch on the day of formal night knowing we would not go to the dining room that evening. But as the evening wore on we decided we were a little hungry so we stopped in at Topsiders. It was a wonderful experience and the service was awesome. The servers were so eager to please and the food was great. We plan to do that again in March!

We had already decided as a group not to do Palo this cruise. When that decision was made, we decided that none of us really wanted to dress up (guys want to wear Kahkis and sports shirts and girls want to wear pants/nice top). Topsiders will totally work for this group! Thanks for all the info!!
