Has anyone Complained about Stateroom Noise?

I've been reading a lot of room reports and have noticed that there are some rooms that perpetually have a lot of noise come in. My understanding is that regardless of what category of room you purchase, everyone should be entitled to a quiet room experience. The only differentiation that DCL provides is views and obstructed views...not noise levels.

Has anyone been in one of the rooms that has had a lot of noise...either from being under a noisy club, a engine noise, or running loud people...and complained to guest services? What have they done? Did they move you to another room...give you a credit? If you've been moved, have they ever moved you to a higher category?

I just read that my upcoming room has had reports of being noisy and wanted to know how to arm myself or what to do about it if i can't get a good night's rest.:cloud9:

Excellent question! My room isn't reporting out so well either!

When the kids are running up and down the hall or jumping off the bed onto the floor from the room above me , or any noise at night I will play relaxing music on my ipad nano or use my ear plugs from NASCAR races that I attend!
Works everytime

Booked a room and then my daughter turned me onto Disboard. Read room reviews and ours had a noise problem. Contacted my TA and after changed the room. Went from 5D on Deck 6 to 5B on Deck 8 for $80 dollars more. Read the stateroom reviews and change your room.

OK, there is a huge difference between a room that has noise from something intrinsic to the ship--like engine noise--and rowdy guests. I've never seen/had a room with engine noise problems other than thrusters on docking. That amounts to a few minutes out of a cruise and can't be helped.

Noise from guests--we have reported. The result has been a reminder from the CD before the shows about the quiet hours and increased security patrols in the area.

We had the unfortunate event of having the people next to us let their kids run in after the late show and yell and jump and run into the wall, which was our wall as well. They'd be out on the balcony pulling and pushing the chairs all over and they were LOUD. One boy was pretending he was the 'monster' and the other kids would run literally screaming throughout the cabin. It was like they were in our room. I could hear the adult lady (assuming it was mom) saying, you guys need to settle down now. This didnt help one bit. I asked at the front desk the next morning what, if anything, they could do and they were very friendly and helpful about it- they said just call them when its happening and they will talk to family about it. Well, we did not have that problem anymore. I dont know if they did talk to them or not, but we did not hear the kids anymore after that.

Yes we were in a noisy room once and we did complain. Long story, but they did stop what they were doing (it was a maintenance thing). Still, the room was noisy. We didn't ask for anything (to be moved, etc.) Plus, we adored our stateroom attendant. What did I learn? I learned to never book GTY and let DCL assign my room. I always pick my room now.

Just wanted to put in my two cents: Before booking our first cruise I did obsessive research, and found that our GTY room was on a deck not recommended because of noise issues frequently reported coming from the restaurants above. I was freaked out, but could do nothing as it was GTY. Well, our room was GREAT! I heard nothing from the restaurants above us, and booked the exact same room for our next room. Had I been able to change the room I would have missed out on a great experience based on what I'd read.

On my last cruise we were assigned an awful awful awful room which was loud and directly over the thrusters. The flag and the flag pole in the back banged the entire night against our wall, the thrusters were on periodically throughout the night (not just backing into the dock) and the ceiling panels vibrated and the bed vibrated. It was horrible. I actually stood on the bed at one point and slapped the ceiling panel to put it back into place, which stopped the rattling (and then it slipped back).

I was so tired between 2am and 4am (and it was only a 3 nighter) so I didn't bother to complain, but DH got me earplugs from Guest Services one night at 1am which helped a little.

It didn't occur to me to call down at 3am to complain...because that would have just been a nightmare (in my mind) to have to explain to someone what was going on and to pack all my stuff up and move.

We use a noise maker to make white noise in the room :thumbsup2 The room we prefer is right above where people debark for port, so there can be mechanical noises when you dock. We really like being two doors from the aft elevator, so bring the noise maker.

We were told later that it was the galley from the kitchen. I still don't know why they needed to bowl in the Galley at 3:30am. :lmao: (It was REALLY loud!) They brought us some air-purifiers that made a "white noise" but it still woke us up in the middle of the night. Even my kids that are very heavy sleepers would wake up some.

Having the head of the Hotel on ship come to your room in the middle of the night is not a good experience. The ship was full and they could not move us, but they did leave some cute stuffed animal in the room for the kids. It was only 3 nights -- but I'm surprised my DH let us book our next cruise!

This was on deck 2 of the Wonder.

Here is a pic of the NASCAR ear plugs I use when I go on a cruise or at the track! They come in many fun colors. I usually share with others on my deck!

Last year on the March sailing of the Dream, we were assinged a room right above the clubs. While the noise didn't bother me, it did rattle the glasses on the shelves and was annoying. I emailed DCL after the fact and they gave me 25% off my future cruise.

Do you remember your room number?

On the Dream, the consistent noise problems appear to be Deck 5 Aft (over the Evolution nightclub) and Deck 10 (subject to traffic noise from Deck 11) plus thruster noise and vibration at the aft while docking, the lower the deck the worse that is. Other than that it is probably going to depend on the behavior of your neighbors or others on the cruise with you (kids running down the halls, etc).

If the ship is full I don't think they will move you.

Once had a neighbor who snored so loudly he could be heard through the wall (it was not a connecting stateroom). Didn't think about complaining, it was actually pretty funny.

There are noise reports on a stateroom booked for a future cruise on the Magic but have stayed a couple doors down on the Wonder before, and didn't hear anything.

Room 6588 on the Magic (and the Wonder I assume) is right across from one of the DIY Laundry rooms. People like to do their laundry late night and loudly.

Whew! After reading some of these posts I went and googled my room# (7067 on the Wonder). Thank god, positive, positive, positive. Only 1 neighbor, midship, and not a commonly traveled hallway.

We are first time cruisers, and my brother and sister-in-law booked this for us on our honeymoon. I was excited, but now I'm even more excited:woohoo:

We just got off a Dream cruise with a Veranda room on deck 9. The first night was extremely loud due to the deck chairs being rearranged by the crew around 6 am. People complained and by the next night it was not an issue. They also used the public address system to constantly remind people of the 10 pm "quiet in the halls policy". No running, no loud talking etc. Seemed to work because we did not have any of these issues.

We had a room last year that had unbelievable loud banging noise. It sounded like someone was playing basketball with a cement ball. This happened for the first 3 nights around 3 AM and a few others in the hallway heard the same noises. After many complaints from the people in the hall (4 or 5 rooms) they gave each of us an on board credit for $500. After I returned home I received a letter from DCL asking me to explain how it was handled and was given a coupon for 25% of a future cruise.......that made my upcoming Hawaii cruise in October a great deal!

I was surprised at the OBC and even more surprised at the 25% off but it seems the corporate people did not think it was handled correctly because it took them 3 days to acknowledge the problem.
