yet another Newbie pre paid tips question

Which cast members do the pre paid tips cover? Is it automatically split up between the members it covers?

If it doesn't cover your dinner server, do you tip them every night or just on your last night?

Love to know that as well but i would assume it covers dining staff as well as your steward? Does it cover anyone else and do you tip ppl in the spa and room service each time?

The envelopes and everything that they show you say, Host (room), Main server - this is the person who looks after a large section of tables. He really does a lot of extra for you and remembers every little detail about everything. Ours was Marco and he was really great! Next is Server, he takes care of your food orders. We had Jamie and he was really great and loved him. Next is Assistant Server - they take care of keeping table clean and drink orders and they are just as wonderful and hard working as the Server. We had Dan and would have loved to bring him home with us!!!

From what I understand they divide up those tips... please correct me if I'm wrong.

Now we did ask at Guest Services about giving an extra tip to Glen our Room Host and we were told that it would go directly to him. They gave us an option of putting it on our bill and they would put it down in his name or just giving him cash. We opted for writing a thank you card and giving him cash in that and then giving him our prepaid slip in the envelope.

If you prepay tips, it will cover your server, assistant server, head server, and stateroom host. These tips are not pooled or shared in any way--they get what you give them.

BARTENDER --any time you order a bar item (alcoholic or not) there is an automatic 15% tip added. These are pooled and divided among the bar staff. If you add any additional to that ticket, it goes to the person who served you. These are not part of the standard pre paid tips.

I read in another thread that the concierge staff has been changed from being full-salary employees to gratuity-subsidized. The concierge aren't noted at all on Disney's tipping guideline chart, unless they're considering them your 'stateroom host'. Somehow I don't think that's the case.

What have people been tipping their concierge lately? I don't think I can really compare it to what I've tipped them at the resort since what they'll do for me will probably be quite different.

I am assuming that these outlines are per person in your party? So for example if there are 4 in our party (2 adults 2 children) then we tip the head server 28x4?

The concierge and stateroom host are different people. The stateroom host is the person who cleans the room and does towel animals, turndown service, etc. Remember that in a concierge cabin they are doing twice as much work (at least) as in a regular cabin and there is no change in the "suggested" tip. My personal feeling is that they should be tipped twice as much as they do that much more work!

Concierge tipping is "at your discretion." We were told this is because so many guests asked about tipping them and that they are still full salary, but are able to accept tips as well. Guess it's one of those DCL mysteries. Anyhow, I'd base the tip here on whether or not they did anything for me!

Yes, the suggested tips are "per guest including children."

I was confused about tips as well and some posts on the DisBoard made it more confusing.

DCL makes it very easy. The night before our last day they put a form in our stateroom to fill out. It laid out the reccomended amounts and we just put how many were in our stateroom. There was a box to put this form in at Guest Services. The next day we had an envelope on our Fish with the tip tickets and we just added them to the envelopes. I wrote "Thanks Murat" etc on the envelope. We gave our stateroom host $10 cash additional, and left her a bag of candy we loved her so much (Sri was her name).

DCL makes is So easy. I really would have no clue how to tip or how much. And not even sure it would occur to me... I wonder how many people don't tip at all. My mom used to wait tables at Roberto's in cocoa beach and was never tipped by a foreigner.

The cutest thing--our stateroom hostess was so grateful for her tip. She made it sound like she had never been tipped before. Too cute!

It is amazing how grateful they are! I tipped our server at dinner what I considered to be not a lot over the suggested, but some. The next morning he was beyond belief in thanking me. I honestly wondered if he has confused my tip with something someone else gave him, because I didn't think it was that big a deal.

Just thought that I would add the following:

besides the envelopes that we receive on the second to last night of the cruise along with the prepaid tickets that appear, I always tip our stateroom host/ess right when we first meet them. I just like them to know we expect good service and in turn we will tip well. It seems to work well for us.

I also bring along $30.00 in one's so that I can use this to tip for room service in the morning and whenever else we eat that way.
