No wbta 2013

No such luck on the shopping front though .... we tend to get a few extra lbs each flying long haul back from USA compared to the short haul airlines to get to Barcelona ... but we are always very near the knuckle on our allowance and have to keep shopping to a minimum. :sad2:

Same here Sarah...remember the days of 32kg per bag and you were allowed 2 bags each....not that we ever travelled with 2 bags each ....

We usually went with one bag each and came back with one extra packed with goodies we had bought at the Outlets..

We flew to Barcelona with Jet2 and their allowance was 23kg the same as the return with Virgin on the long haul and we could only buy a couple of very small things.

We used Virgin Airmiles for our one way return flights using their credit card for EVERYTHING for the 18 months previously so thank goodness people are posting good sites for cheaper one way airfares for next year..

All hints and tips are gratefully received.

OK, that's just creepy :eek::eek:. As someone who is new to FB, I'm still intimidated a bit, trying to navigate everything :surfweb:, but I would never put much personal information out there (really, who would be interested?) I always drilled safety into my DD, who practically grew up online; her FB page is under an assumed name, so she can access what she needs to without worry. Of course, she is far more computer savvy than dear old mom, anyway (I never had to worry about computer safety growing up...there weren't any way back then :goodvibes )

Twitter?....no, I don't think so :sad2:.

Like JessicasMom, I am a little intimidated with FB as well. Still haven't signed up yet, but plan on doing so today. Signing up under an assumed name sounds like a great idea.:thumbsup2

Yeah, we tend to find a few extra pounds on a cruise, too :scared1: ... oh, you meant baggage allowance!

Ok, I did it.....................I joined facebook. I just hiked up my pants and closed my eyes and did it. I made it as private as I could. Being a first timer I hope I did everything right. I then went to the TA 2013 facebook page and put in a request to join the group. I hope I'm doing things right. If not, please, you veteran facebook members please let me know.:confused3

David,

As soon as you've been added to the WBTA Facebook page, I'll do a "friend request" for you. (we are friends, right?)

Sounds like you are doing it correctly. Will be glad to help if you have questions.

Today's Twitter clues seem to be pointing to: EUROPE!!

I know clue #5 is a fleur de lis. Clue #4 looks Spanish.

We kind of messed up in 2010 on this. We managed to get the 2 bags (just booked a week before they changed everything over) but then didn't think we would manage to get the painting we accidentally brought on the ship (free wine is not a good thing for me after martini tasting and blind bidding!) because of the size so stupidly dismantled it. Left the lovely frame in Florida! As it was we found out we could have had it as additional hand luggage and they would have stored it securely for us! Thank God they no longer do the auction onboard! I do not need any more pictures!

Hello everyone! My mom and I just took our first Disney cruise last month and fell in LOVE!! We are huge disney fans and DVC members! We would love to do this cruise but worried about cost. Does anyone know about how many points it would be to book this cruise based on previous WBTA cruises?

Thanks,
Erin

Hi Erin and welcome
We are DVC members, and on the WBTA 2011, an iside cabin started at 160 points each so 320 in total. We splashed out on a balcony cabin on deck 7 and the total points for that were 770

For some reason the EBTA points were a bit cheaper, with an inside starting at 130 each , so total 260
the insides work out really well when you copnsider you are getting two weeks food as well. Hope this helps

Thank you so much for the quick reply! An inside cabin would be perfect for me but we got spoiled on our cruise last month since we had a balcony and mom says she cant cruise without one now.....! We have talked about maybe doing half cash and half points. We have 500 points so that might work well!

Erin the cheapest balcony cabin was 315 points each for a navigators verandah, or how about an oceanview they were between 228 to 264 each, that may be an option inbetween the two

So it's official now..
Read on the Facebook-page that DCL cancelled the announcement (which was scheduled for wednesday) and TA's are sending out e-mails at the moment.

It's most likely because of the sad events with the Costa Concordia in Italy. Which are of course tragic!

Who knows when we'll get to know more now!

I can certainly understand Disney wanting to be respectful of the Costa situation. We can wait a few more days and give our respect to all the passengers and crew ( except the ones who abandon the ship first aka the Captain) who are going through this Tragedy.

Just popping in to say "hi"! :) I guess we will still be waiting to book our repeat WBTA in light of DCL postponing the press conference. We still aren't 100% on EBTA vs WBTA due to hubby's work schedule (which he gets to bid for in August) so I think we will book both, see what he is able to get in terms of vacation, then go from there. I still keep hinting at taking the ship both ways.... ;)
EBTA dates are easier to pull our child out of school, and WBTA dates would be on hubby's birthday (and all our DIS friends from 2011 WBTA). I still say both ways. :rotfl2:

It's hard to tell what DCL will do. If I were in the PR department of DCL, I'd probably tell them to wait a few weeks - to let the publicity die down. This IS a tragic incident, and those people should never be forgotten.

But for a business...it'd make sense to let it quiet down. They MAY choose to release things, just with no big hoopla.

And as much as I personally wanted them to announce it tomorrow so we'd not have to wait to find out, I think canceling was the best decision. I believe I posted several pages back that I sort of felt funny being so excited about this cruise right when the tragedy occurred. Not that the tragedy will lessen for those poor families. It's just that right now might not be the best time for DCL to do anything but wait.

We did half points, half cash for the WBTA in 2010 and will likely do the same for the 2013. I think it was 355 points for a regular balcony but I'm sure it's gone up. The only downside of doing half cash is that they make you pay in full as soon as you book...

I think all the cruise lines will lie low for a while out of respect and figuring that some people may be gun-shy about booking a cruise right now. Prayers to all those families who lost a loved one on the Concordia. I can't believe those pictures and the stories coming out about the captain's horrid behavior...
