Does anyone have/use a smash book?? (if you haven't heard of these, definitely google them and watch the promo video!)

I don't really scrapbook, but I do lots of other crafts! I went to Michael's because I wanted to make my own autograph book for our upcoming trip, and I found the smash book! I bought it and decided to use it for autographs and any tidbits. I'm also borrowing my sister's Instax camera so I'll be able to stick little polaroids in my smash book!!

I just love the idea of being able to kind of scrap on the go while I'm at disney! I knew I wouldn't come home and make a whole scrap book, but I can defintely do this!

Has anyone else used a smash book in Disney? or for anything else?

I did one for our Transatlantic Cruise - in a Teresa Collins travel journal. I had the pages all prepared before I went, with the intention of working on it while gone. FAT CHANCE! I was SO busy making memories I didn't have time to document them, other than writing in my journal. But it only took me a week to slap it together when I got home, so I had something to share while it was still fresh. . . I guess my journal was a smashbook of sorts, though - I stuck stuff in that I didn't want to lose like the origami things, receipts, but no photos.

Thanks for responding!! I think I'll be the same as you-- super busy making memories! But I'm hoping to get autographs and smash a few things in there! Maybe I'll post some pics here when we get back! We leave today!!!

I don't have one, but I bought a few for my DD to give to a couple of her bff's for Christmas (DD is getting one, too). The girls loved them and started smashing things in as soon as they had them opened. I'm not sure I would take time to actually glue things in while I was in the park, but you could take the book for the autographs and use the smash pockets (purchased seperately) to store all the tidbits. Then add them to the book later at your resort or when you return home.

The way I look at it. You don't have to take the book anywhere. Just get pics,
and stuff you can glue in it later.

I am making my friends one and using up a lot of my scrap and unused papers.
they are turning out really cute.
also using my bind it all to put it all together.

I like the idea of the it, but not the price. I wanted DD to have something like it for an upcoming trip abroad, so I decided to make my own version. But I'm starting to be concerned that the cover of the journal I bought might not be sturdy enough, so I may end up with a "real" Smash book. I need to check them out again next time I'm out shopping with a coupon. I'd love to see pictures of anyone's completed books!............P

I'm getting stranger. I'm starting to see just how much stuff I am saving due to this "memories" craze. Combine that with keeping way too much paper in filing cabinets.

I'm going digital whereever possible. Scanning & shredding. Taking pics with cell phone. I use Evernote on desktop, iphone & ipad, and its got version for mac & all other phones. If I want a Smashbook, I don't see why I couldn't create on in Evernote as its all set up as notes & notebooks anyway.

We might have to move in a few years & I see we have accumulated soooooo much stuff since living here for 17 years. I am terrified to think what a LIFETIME of photo albums, scrapbooks & keeping every single memory will look like and how big of a house one would need.

I am drawing the line a lot closer than I used to.

Not to mention the $ that the scrapbook industry gets out of us. Evernote = free. There may even be other digital journal methods, I just use Evernote for everything.

On my whole from our trip now! Thanks everyone for your replies!!

I ended up working on my books only at night in our resort, and not getting autographs because the lines were sooo long!

I think the price of the smashbooks (I think it was under 15 bucks at michaels) really isn't too bad, considering all the pages are printed with different designs, so you don't need extra specialty papers to cover white sheets! Plus its sturdy, and comes with the pen/gluepen combo. you could certainly use a 40% off coupon! Amazon has great prices on them too.

I did some smashing at nights, and stuck other stuff in a ziplock bag to smash later! I loved taking mini Polaroids for the book!

I'll post pictures sometime after Christmas to show everyone! :)

I have purchased 3 smashbooks - one international travel (yellow spine), one mini, and one red spine. The yellow spine one was a gift to my BFFs daughter who left for a year of school abroad. I decorated the cover, and then put a bunch of journaling cards and extras like paper clips and smallish envelopes in a library pocket at the back. Then I used Teresa Collins travel line to decorate some of the pages here and there (for example, since I knew her first stop was London, I put a sticker of Big Ben on one of the first pages). She loved it.

The second, mini sized, was again for another friends daughter who was going abroad for 6 months. It was small enough for her backpack, but still enough pages for recording her memories. I did the same thing as I did to the book above, and again, it was a hit.

The third one, with the red spine, is my December daily. I decorated the cover really fun, then decorated the interior with a two page spread for every day (the pages are 8 x 10) of December. I am smashing my memories, and printing most of my pictures 2 x 3 sized, so I can get lots of pictures on a page if I have them. I am loving it. I did cover over some of the crazy pencil-type drawings and doodling to make it more holiday-ish. It is turning out really cute!

I have to say that I am very impressed with Smashbooks so far, the quality is good and they can take a lot of handling. I think that for my everyday memories I'm still going to scrap in my regular 12 x 12 scrapbooks, but as gifts or for a special trip, it's perfect, and with a 30% off A's coupon, the price is right.

I bought one for my DIL for Christmas, and I plan to get one for myself. I don't consider myself a scrapbooker, mini-books are more my thing, and I love the idea of having a place to put mementos and things that bring fond memories without having to do a 12 x 12.

I love this!

We are taking five kids to WDW, and I think several of them would love putting these books together during the trip.

Excellent idea.

M's just started carrying these - normally something like $12.98, but a super great price with the 40% off coupon! They also had a lot of the accessories, most for $1.99. I decided I would buy one every once in a while, since I have been embellishing them and giving them as gifts. I got a black one the other day with the idea that I will use it to smash my May trip to WDW!

I bought 2 today. I had the 40% off coupon for one. I should of held off until my next trip into town for book #2, but I couldn't resist. I bought a handful of accessories.

One is for my oldest son. I wanted to do a book for his high school years. Nothing terribly fancy. Just pictures, school programs, ect. This is perfect. I got it started tonight, and showed it to him. He gave me a teenage grunt. It must be ok.

The second will be for my day to day life. Things we do as a family.

I will get a third for our Disney trip. I will take in another 40% of coupon. I think I will attempt to make my own out of scrapbook paper for the kids that want to do it with me on our trip. Maybe. I was also going to splurge and get one of those portable Polaroid printers for vacation. That should make it fun and exciting.

I will try to post a photo this weekend. It is nothing terribly fancy, but I love how simple and convenient it is. It will help document things better than photos on my computer.

So I guess my scrapbook I started last summer for our Kansas/Indiana trip is a smash book.
Huh, who knew it had a name! LOL

I'll try to post pics when I'm done. That's my goal for the end of January.

Here are some pics of my smashbook. I'm using it as a journal for my DLR trip with Rachel and my NYC trip with Sarah.
