Paying cash for PPH

We'll be staying at the PPH in September. I've booked and paid the deposit by credit card, but for a variety of reasons am looking at paying cash for the balance when we arrive - would this be weird?? Is it even allowed? I've always paid hotels by credit card. No problem with them having my credit card number for any extra charges during our stay. Thanks.

I've stayed at other hotels and paid cash and/or split it amongst different credit cards. We do a lot of girls' trips and split the cost of lodging at checkout.

Call and ask? I don't see why they wouldn't.

I agree, call and ask but I too don't see why they wouldn't.

I have also paid cash for hotels at other places.
Or put my hotel payment on a different credit card than the one that they were holding on file for any incidentals... and neither has ever been a problem anywhere I've been!

It should not be any problem paying cash. For several cultures it is normal.

I know that for Japanese and Germans it is customary to pay Hotel bills in cash. I recently retired from a major Japanese company, on my first one week business trip to Japan I asked headquarters if they had Japanese Yen. I wanted JYen so that I would not have to take time when I arrived. They said sure, when I went to pick up my walking around money, the handed me 1,000,000.00 JYen. (about $11,500.00 USD at the time.) And explaned that I was to use it to pay for the Hotel and everything in cash. I questioned the amount expecting maybe $200, but said that they kept large amounts of JYen on hand, and this was less than normal !

After returing from the French division, I picked up a German supplier I had negotiated with, at SNA and took him to his hotel. When we arrived he paid in full with the new crisp (Large Portrait) $100 bills, before I evers saw one here.

One year, our major race car sponser was from Mexico. When we raced at the Long Beach Grand Prix he had his "family" stay at the Disneyland Hotel for two weeks. He paid for all 24 rooms for two weeks in CASH.

You will not have any problem paying the Hotel in cash (US$), as it is common with some foreign guests.

This can be a real problem in reverse. I know that we've always had a very hard time convincing my wife's Japanese uncle that he shouldn't be carrying that much cash around the US. I think he politely listened to us (in that polite Japanese way) and then did as he was accustomed.

Thanks - think I will look at this option. Mainly because I'm in Australia so want to avoid unnecessary international phone calls - also the timing is hard as the trip is a secret from my kids and I can't call international from work, I had to get up at 5am to call the day I booked so they wouldn't hear me! The exchange rate is good right now and if I get cash exchanged at the post office the fees are less than using the credit card.
