Merry Member Mixer

Yesterday an email arrived for this year’s Merry Member Mixer –

I found it very annoying, as we’ll actually be at WDW (BLT – 12/4-9) over the holidays (for the first time) and would have loved to attend a mixer, had we known about it sooner…

We booked the villas 11 months out… so we (and I'm sure most other members) have made ADR’s, looked at attending specific events (especially during the holidays), considered EMH and plan accordingly.

To host a holiday event only once a week, in a park ( requiring a park hopper and/or to rearrange plans) and wait to announce it until Thanksgiving, less than two weeks before the first event – is really discourteous to members and really shows how little DVC knows about its members.

Do they always wait this long to announce these mixers?

*Thanks for letting me vent, we're traveling a 20 month old (first time there with a kid) whose parents have never been to Disney either and would have really liked to attend this

I would not waist your time. I was less than impressed with the last one we attended. If you want to BUY a dvc pin or get a dvc ornament go. I almost forgot you get 2 oz of punch and a cookie. Its all about them trying to sell add on's.

I had a much different experience when I went to the one in 2009. That one was more of an opportunity to get photos with the characters in their holiday outfits and there was a dance party for the kids. The snacks and ornaments were a bonus. There was absolutely no sales pitch at all.

The first one we attended was great. The second one was a train wreck. I sent a nasty e-mail to DVC about how they treated two Dvc members at the mixer.

I too was disappointed at how slow DVC sent info ( even though we haven't received that e-mail yet), we have tickets to mvmcp for Dec 6th and that's the only tues we could attend party.

Just a small vent here. We have attended the MM the last 5-6 years and some were better than others. We mainly attend to get the ornament to keep the series going, but we can't this year.

For the past 5 years the Mixer was always on Thursday (Last year Friday because of the condo association meeting) every year we have attended. This year we are doing a 4 day DCL and not getting to WDW until Thursday 12/8. We planned for this to be on Thursday, and of course it was changed to Tuesday's. Can't go on the 6th (At Sea) and we are leaving on the 12th.

A little heads up would have been nice that they were changing days of the week.

Looks like I will have to buy the ornament this year from EBAY.

 I feel your pain. My DH is a fireman and picks his vacation a year out based on seniority. So next year he took off dates in October--on the chnace we could get on the Member's Cruise. I know it is hard to book that...but now that they are cruising in September and January, we won't be able to do the Member's Cruise at all.

This change was what? one month at least after mailing the Disney Files where it stating in black and white the October dates....:headache:

I can't believe Disney forgot to call you and let you know.

Really??? I would think if you had nothing constructive to add that you could keep your thoughts to yourself!!!

The point I was making was that when DVC does the same thing year after year perhaps it would be nice if they let ALL the members know more than 2 weeks in advance that they are making a major change.

Welcome to DVC. They change their mind, they deliver information late or not at all. If you are expecting an annual calendar with correct dates and times, you'll need to find a different timeshare. Nothing is set in stone with DVC.
