Off-site hotel recommendation for 1 night

OK,

I am looking for a cheap place to stay for 1 night before our stay at the Boardwalk starts in May.

We want someplace cheap, but still clean and safe. Amenities are not a necessity as we will basically just be sleeping here. I've found a lot of good rates in the Old Town area near WDW but just want someones opinion as to location.

Thanks so much for the help!

Here is what we do - we stay at a DTD hotel (we're staying at the Wyndham this time) that is within walking distance of DTD. It is literally across the street from DTD. Then we do the whole DTD thing that first night - and don't go back! The Disney transportation back from DTD makes me want to stab out my eyes, so I'm thankful that we get it done that first night!

mom2maggie,

Thank you for that advice. What hotels would you recommend in the DTD area. We are looking to spend under 80 for the one night.

We are staying at the Homewood Suites Lake Buena Vista this next Friday for $70 + tax for one night before checking into POR. Had great tripadvisor reviews and I've never had any trouble with the hilton brand hotels.

Softballmom,

How did you get such a good rate at the Homewood Suites Lake Buena Vista??

When I put in my information it came up as 107 for the night (I'm looking at Friday May 11).

If you used any codes could you let me know so that I can look for some during my date?

Thank you for your time!

We often drive down the day before our DVC check in day and find a cash room for the night. However, we usually do not book until we are there or almost in Orlando. (Sometimes we stay in St. Augustine or Daytona.)
We have never had any problems with finding a clean, nice room for 1 night. This last trip we stayed at the DTD Hilton for $99. This time we used the Hotels.com app, got their rates and just called the hotel direct and they matched the price. Often times the hotels will have their lowest prices at the last minute, just to fill the room.

Thanks for the suggestion, and the app!

I don't think I'll make my reservation for a while. I just like to keep an eye out in case any hotels run a special, or a Groupon comes up!

TKLDisney,

When you say run down do you mean out dated? Or dirty?

My expectations are not too high for a room I'm paying very little for, however, I would like it to be clean and safe. If you could elaborate at all I would appreciate that.

we recommend the DoubleTree at the top of DTD. There are lots of discounts generally available... and there is a ton of space in the suite. Plus, if you get through allears or mousesavers breakfast is usually included.

I wouldn't say dirty, just with the economy a lot of the places around have closed down. There are still lots of restaurants around but area seemed deserted to me. This was in Oct. 2011. I think you could find better place to stay than here. You can get some good deals at DTD hotels, just have to keep watching. Buena Vista Suites was suggested thats good too!

If you are going before 12/25 I have a link for rooms at Clarion Lake Buena Vista for $39.99 a night or $49.99 with breakfast buffet for 2. We stayed there 2 years ago when it was still Comfort Inn and they were in the process of remodeling. Our room had already been remodeled and it was very nice and spacious. We are staying there 2 nights in December at the discounted rate before we check in to our WDW resort.
