Disney Moms Panel Wannabe/Rejected VA/MD meet! Postponed

Joining in from the mom's panel thread. Thanks for starting this one. I'm Marsha from out by Dulles Airport. December 10th would probably work for me. My DD has something at school in the AM but I could either join late or we could start in the later morning/early afternoon, esp to give those who are coming from larger distances time to travel.

Some ideas:

- Washington DC museum and/or the Ellipse Christmas tree area

- The Gaylord Hotel - they have awesome indoor fountain show, snow in the lobby, ICE!, Christmas carolers, etc

- Tysons Corner Centre -- got to go to the Disney store but we can eat at a restaurant or just hit the food court

I'm not tied to any of these ... just trying to get some ideas going ...

Hi Marsha! I live by Dulles Airport, too!

I like all of these ideas!

I am a wogger (walk/jogger). I did 3 Half Marathons last year - including the Princess and Wine and Dine. I would love to geek chat with you about Disney and the Wine and Dine princess:

When we meet up, you'll have to tell me all about the races! DH knew I was bummed about the panel, so he said, "Let's go run a 5K during Marathon Weekend." I could probably swing a 5k by then, but ultimately I'd like to do a half marathon sometime.

Totally Off/Topic but did everyone realize the Disney Outlet at Potomac Mills Mall sells Disneyland Park merchandise. The merchandise is either surplus, discontinued, off-season, etc... but they have some great deals at some good prices. The store told me they are one of 11 stores nationwide that gets Disneyland merchandise. They get shipments in monthly except for either July...or was it August...during the first part of the month.

Something to think about for holiday shopping - just sayin :santa:

I think that ship has sailed. I've heard from some other people via Twitter that they had the same thing happen to them in previous years.

You know at first, this morning, I was like, "You've got to be kidding. All this waiting and I don't even warrant a rejection? I've gotta sit her forever imagining my poor lonely lost application print out gathering dust under some conference table? The fates are so cruel."

Then I realized, this is the first time I've applied and I did so expecting absolutely nothing. I'm glad to have even made it to round two and there's always next year...and the year after that...and the year after that:laughing:

You have a great attitude! That's awesome that you made it to R2 on your first try!

I am so excited to start participating in half-marathons! Particularly because it gives me something else to plan my Disney trips around. I would love to chat with someone who's experienced 3 halfs. I think I'm probably a wogger as well. I'm doing Jeff Galloway's run-walk program, and am only currently at a 20 sec running to 1 minute walking ratio at the moment, but am doing 45 - 60 minutes per day. I've only been at it for a couple of weeks though.

Hi Marsha. Glad you joined us over here. I like all your proposed ideas. I haven't been to ICE! yet and have been meaning to since it came to Gaylord. Really any of the ideas would work for me. I think one of the mom hopefuls had mentioned a winery which could be nice too.

As soon as I read this post I was thinking..what a good idea. I could handle a 5K in Feb. Then I realized we don't actually arrive until Saturday late morning. I might have to think about changing our arrival date...

Glad you posted this as I didn't even know there was a Disney outlet at Potomac Mills. I may have to check it out tomorrow since I'll be at the IKEA looking for a larger bed for my son...Who is now officially the tallest person in the house:eek:

Oh, I haven't been to Potomac Mills in so long -- maybe I need to get out there this holiday season!

small world!

I was at the July 4th Leesburg parade when this young woman came up to me and said hello! I didn't know her at all but she said she read my TR and recognized us from the pictures. What a great thing! She is off at college now but still checks in on DIS.

I always wonder who else from this area might be on DIS?

We went to ICE! 2 years ago and it was a lot of fun. It is expensive when you add up the admission, parking, food/drinks, etc. It's also VERY cold in there and once you leave you can't go back in. But sliding down the ice slides with my girls was a LOT of fun! The ice sculptures are truly unbelievable, particularly the Nativity Scene at the end, if they still do that.

I definitely recommend doing it once -- you have to pre-purchase your tickets on-line if you are going on a weekend though...they sell out quickly.

Hi there everyone! I'm up in Rochester, NY but would not rule out a road trip! Can someone send me a zip code so I can get an approx. idea how far away you are? We'd love to have you! I'm not sure of NoVa zip codes, but if you do a search to Washington DC, it should be fairly similar.

Also, what is your twitter name, I don't think I'm following you yet!

Hi all -- I am late joining the thread, but I'd love to join a meetup on December 10th. I'm pretty close to Dulles Airport too.

(And Denise -- speaking of small worlds -- I think we have a mutual friend!)

All the ideas posed sound fabulous so far. I'm happy to help coordinate, etc.

Nancy
