Oh, I'm detecting nuttiness, all right! 3D Dessert Discovery (11/2) - Complete

YEAH, the first signature dinner report that I have seen. It looked wonderful. The Tangerine sphere looked like an egg yolk. Okay, um I so want to get a good laugh. Can you just pm me what the happy drunk woman said? ;)

Me too?

Wow, your signature dinner looked amazing. I would so love to do that. :goodvibes

It really was amazing! I'm so glad I did it.

That Brown Derby signature meal looks out of this world. All of the courses look delicious. And I love that they gave you a little goody bag, especially with recipes, how cool!

It was out of this world! I was a bit nervous about it being its initial event but they did a decent job of it!

Hopefully some others post their signature dinner reports soon. It was great!

I love MacMurray Ranch wines, I've been to a lot of their Wine Dinners at Disneyland Restaurants and their wines are great. There really is a lot that ties the winery and Disney together.

The meal looked a lot better than it read on the menu. As I read that I was thinking, "I'm really glad I hadn't planned on going to this one" but as I looked at the pictures everything looked pretty good!
I didn't realize they did a lot of wine dinners for them out at Disneyland! Maybe one of these days I'll make it out there to visit Disneyland and maybe a wine dinner will be going on at this time.

I think the winner of bad menus this trip will be the French Regional Lunch I went to. You may be glad you missed it!

Well back when we had the F&W Festival there was different Wine dinner at Steakhouse 55 in the DLH every Friday. By the last festival we had, they even made one a beer dinner and I had started attending most of them. There are other restaurants out there that do them, and just eating at the Napa Rose is like a wine dinner every night, just different wineries.

Hmmmmm, that's not good to hear about the lunch. I will be awaiting your review.

Boma

This morning my husband wanted a real breakfast. The night before after I got back from the dinner, we looked online to see what was available. He chose Boma so there we went!

We slept in until 8:00AM. That time is sleeping in for us on a normal basis too as our dogs make sure we never sleep later than 7:00AM. We headed to Animal Kingdom Lodge around 8:30am & checked in right on time for our 8:45AM reservation.

There was a large crowd at the podium checking in. It was very loud with lots of people running around in the restaurant.

We were seated in the far section of the restaurant and were greeted by a server in the area who went to get us juice while we visited the buffet.

While in line to get to a pod, the child in front of us dropped his plate and it shattered on the ground. The kid just ran away and the parents walked away too. I'm like seriously?

I didn't really want to eat much so I got a smaller plate than my husband's.
Eesia.jpg

The potatoes were gross and cold.
My waffle was good.
The croissant (regular) was nice.
The chocolate croissant was eh.

I was going to get fruit on my plate but I saw a kid sneeze nearby it & it kinda turned me off.

I did love my POG juice & I think I drank like 3 glasses of the stuff!

My husband's plate:
PrBZv.jpg

He loved his eggs & waffle. The bacon was lacking (shock!) The chocolate chip muffin was good & he didn't like the pecan roll.

He didn't go up for seconds & thus I wondered why we even went to a buffet as we could have gone to Kona & got him something similar & with better coffee.

We would go back - we just would make sure we were a bit more hungry for breakfast & try to go when it first opens rather than in the middle of the morning.

French Regional Lunch

After our breakfast we headed back to the room for a little while & began packing from our weeklong vacation & goofing off online.

I headed towards EPCOT around 11am & went through the France shops until I saw some of the people I knew from the disboards hanging out around the the pavilion and went and talked with them.

Sadly, I was not sat with them & they were unable to place me at that table. Instead, I got placed with a group of 3 friends that were travelling together & had done so for years so it was a bit awkward there.

After everyone was seated & the first glass of wine poured, the speaker for the winery began talking. They served the amuse bouche during this time.

Amuse Bouche

MOdSp.jpg

It was an asparagus mousse.
It was refreshing and light as an amuse bouche should be & paired with the wine well.

The first course
YLCm6.jpg

Yup thats pig feet in there along with some veal wrapped and fried.
I do believe some people around the restaurant loved it. I personally hate pig's feet but I also live in middle georgia where some people try to put pig's feet in recipes they don't belong so I have a bias against them. Its one of the foods of my top 10 food hate list. The vegetables were tasty though.

The second course
7fIMs.jpg

Sauerkraut w/ Salmon, Monkfish & Smoked Haddock
Sauerkraut is also on my top 10 food hate list. (Other foods on this list include chicken feet, creamed corn, sardines, regular mayo, chicken livers, anchovies, pickles, headcheese)
The salmon was good - especially with the sauce that was used around the dish. I didn't enjoy the smoked haddock. The monkfish was ok.
I did really like the wine.

The cheese course
3lfW2.jpg

Comte
A strong nice cheese. I really liked it with the grapes as it balanced out its strong flavor.

The dessert.

mB1Oq.jpg

Blueberry Flan
I liked the flan as it was nicely prepared. The sugar on top was really sticky in the teeth. The ice cream reminded me of the Flintstone Push Up Pops I had growing up so it was great!
The final wine wasn't sweet either which was great.

Overall, I think this individual lunch was a bust for me. I'm not really a picky eater but this just hit the jackpot on foods I hate. I realize that is also a risk you take when booking these type of events. I will book this event again as for the price point - you do get a really nice experience. Hopefully next year, I will get a better menu for my personal tastes.

I did enjoy a lot of the wine so I grabbed a taxi back to the room where I took a nap as rainy weather always makes me sleepy until it was time for us to get ready for the dessert party.

Your Boma breakfast...OY! We are sitting around talking about our last day plans and I suggested Boma and then go home and Todd said no, it want that good the last time and then I read your review and I def do not want to do it!

The dessert from your Frunch looks very good!

I'm with you on not liking some of that stuff - I don't think I would have enjoyed it either. I hate sauerkraut! The flan looks really nice though.

Hmmmmm :scratchin You're right, I think I would have left that lunch and wanted to go to Beaches and Cream or something. I think the Pigs foot and the cheese would have been my favorite courses and I'd never had pigs foot, so I don't know that I would have liked that.

I might look at the other lunches for next year. We're also planning on being there the same weekend as the Swan Dolphin Classic and that has received great reviews, we might be doing that on Friday and Saturday nights, but maybe we'll stay until the following Sunday and do PFTS the next weekend. I'm starting to work it all out in my this year's PTR which has now become my next year's PTR!

Yeah - I liked the food just fine at Boma but it was chaos in there! No more going there unless its at opening.

The dessert was the best part of the Frunch food wise.

I'm with you on not liking some of that stuff - I don't think I would have enjoyed it either. I hate sauerkraut! The flan looks really nice though.
Yeah - I know its always a risk about not liking things but I think I hit the jackpot on what doesn't work for me. Hopefully next year is better!

Yeah - I was able to enjoy a lot of the 3D Dessert Party as I was not full upon leaving.

I'm hoping to do the classic next year but hopefully I'll be living in Orlando by that time. It definitely would help me do more events that way.

That HBD Signature dinner looked FABULOUS!!!!! Hoping they'll be offering it again next year!

I'm not a picky eater but your French Regional (Frunch) didn't appeal to me either. The one we attended was excellent, sorry yours wasn't.

I hope so too! I will do it again - provided they don't have the same night triple booked again.

Yeah - I'm going to give French Regional Lunch another try since my first one two years ago got ruined thanks to work, this one had the weird menu so third time will be a charm right?

3D Dessert Discovery

Shortly after 7:30pm, we checked in for the dessert event and went inside. Not long afterwards, Abby was behind us while checking in so we stood (or sat) around until it was time to start.

I noticed while waiting - it seemed no where as crowded as last years. Even 5 minutes before it was to start, the waiting area had enough room for people to sit and relax and not crowd each other before opening.

At 8pm, the 'rush' happened. All the tables in the front part of the room were taken but once we went to the other side of the "sweet seats" - it was very very open. Abby saved us a table while my husband and I split up to get some desserts.

Menu!

If you look at the menu's closely - you see that the same stations are repeated multiple places throughout the event. The only stations not repeated are the babycakes station & the candy one.

For my first plate,
tAFYs.jpg

I had some of the miniture pastries -
The Chocolate Chip Cannoli was good
Miniture Eclair - good
Cheese! - always good (but very safe flavors of cheese)
Whoopie Pie - Eh
Puff Pastry - Eh

To drink, I visited the flambeed station & picked up the
Iced Coffee Cream w/ Bourbon Pipettes
u9xo1.jpg

My first one of these only had 1 pipette which wasn't very strong with that coffee flavor. When I went back for a second one - I picked up a few more of them and could then taste it!

My husband's first plate:
VxoBt.jpg

He visited the babycakes (which he had no idea was gluten free/etc.), miniture table & cheese.
He loved the babycakes cookie & icing sandwich & made me get him some more on my next go around.
He loved everyone on his plate.

He went sober for his drink of choice:

Fruit Punch

We did a couple more trips each with each plate getting smaller than the last. I did enjoy the cheeses to help balance out all the sweets. We took some of the cotton candy (to go) and enjoyed that after going home the next day.

The flambeed donuts were amazing like they were last year - but very very rich & you can't eat anything afterwards.

Apparently some people thought it would be fun to dress up at this event:
jmWOw.jpg

I wasn't sure if they were lost on their way to the MNSSHP or something.

After an hour, my husband & I were done. We just can't eat that many sweets even with the savory items to balance it out. We said goodbye to Abby & headed back to the resort to resume packing.

We were given goodie bags upon leaving.
Inside were some truffles & caramels. They are currently in our kitchen island candy bowl waiting to be eaten but we haven't felt like it yet.

I overall enjoyed this event. If its offered next year, I think we are going to pass though. It had very similar items to last year which was a bit of a disappointment to my husband and me as we wanted more new items. Hopefully, if all goes well, we'll be living in Florida by then so if it changes & I read about in reviews, we can always add it into the plans later on.

That event looks pretty delicious! Wow, I have a huge sweet tooth so I would love to try that someday ;)

Mmm those desserts look lovely but if I was going to choose only one dining event to do I think I would go for HBD - that looked amazing :cloud9:

Yeah - HBD was my favorite special event this year by far! I glad it went so well for a first time event.

Is the 3D dessert thing similar to the MK dessert party? We did that one and it was very good but agreed, you need some savory foods to balance out all that sugar!

Its kinda similar except there is a lot of booze present from liquors to dessert wines. The desserts are a better quality than that of the MK dessert party though & a lot more options available no matter what sweets make you happy.

Sorry you didn't care for the French Lunch as much as the rest of us. I was so nervous when we sat and down and read the menu but I everything was a very pleasant surprise for me. I was shocked I liked everything as much as I did.

It was lovely getting to meet you guys and going to the events together. :goodvibes

Hopefully you guys will be living in FL soon and we can meet at Disney more often!

Its alright - everyone has different tastes. My table wasn't really happy with it either so it probably was one of those type things you either loved or didn't.

It was nice meeting you! Hopefully we'll get to FL soon - just about finding that right job that will move me!
