We leave on Tuesday! :cool1:

I called this afternoon to upgrade from our free QS dining plan to the DDP. We are staying for 7 nights, so I had figured out around $160. I give all the information to the CM, who proceeds to tell me that I owe her $289.

:scared1:

Hadn't planned for that! I ask her why, and she proceeds to tell me that I need to pay the difference (duh) between the QS plan, $34.99, and the "Plus" plan which is $55 per person per day.

So I begin racking my brain. I knew I had seen posts about price increases, but thought it was for next year. And still didn't think it was going up that much!

So I ask her first if she has the right year. Then if she has the right plan. (1TS, 1CS, 1 snack) She says yes.

Then I tell her I had priced out the difference on the Disney website by booking pretend vacations. She asks where I did that, and I begin to tell her.

Then I realize I have 2 minutes until my next class comes in. I still don't know what she did, but I realized I was not going to be able to convince her she was wrong. If I had time, I would have asked for a supervisor.

Instead, I just gave up, knowing I could call back later. ("You just want me to cancel that?" ummm, yeah....)

I called back later, paid my $160 and had a good laugh with the new CM about it. She was floored.

I feel sorry for the people that don't know any better and end up paying too much for the CM's mistakes...

that I make or upgrades I make sure I know the value. I have seen too many mistakes; so, I come prepared on the phone or whatever.

Don't you hate it when you get an inexperienced CM on the phone? My favorite question to ask them is where their favorite places to eat are. Last night when making dining reservations, her response was "I've never been to WDW." OMG - really?!?! I knew right then that I'd be making another call to get my questions answered. And wouldn't ya know - she didn't know anything about watching Wishes from Ohana, Remy at Les Chefs, or what time lunch service ends and dinner service starts at Le Cellier.

Glad you were prepared and stuck to your guns about the price. Sometimes, it's totally worth the hassle of just calling back, even though you should HAVE to.

Knowledge is power! :rotfl:

This exact same thing happened to me Wednesday.

I called to upgrade our 2 adult - 4 night QSDP to the DDP and she wanted to charge me $291 . The call on my cell phone dropped inadvertently and since I was about to get to work I thought I'll call back later when I have more time. I then checked my reservation online and my reservation was changed and required an immediate payment for $291 even though I did not authorize this change. I called back and said they needed to change it back as I was not paying $291 for the upgrade since it should have been $88. After almost an hour on the phone the new CM was able to undo what the other CM had done and get me my upgrade for $88.

ok, apparently I'm an idiot, cause I'm not seeing how 2 people for 4 days = $88 more. Is there a trick to figure out how much the upgrade would be?

Since no one answered your question I thought I would jump in here and explain it to you...:)

In order to upgrade from QS to DDP you would only be paying the difference between the two plans (you have already paid for the QS plan) times the number of days you are staying times the number of guests. For the poster above who said her change should be $88 this is how it would work:

QS per person per day = $34.99
DDP per person per day = $45.99
difference = 11 per day

therefore $11 per day for 4 days would be $44 and times 2 guests would be $88. HOpe this helps.

In my experience, they won't play favorites with restaurants. I don't even ask, "which one is better"? I just asked a few CMs, "Where is a good place to eat in (insert park).....?" They all said the same thing, "They're all good."

problem solved--I was doing it that way, but I was using the 2012 prices, which is why the math didn't work out for me :rotfl:

Question: If a CM inadvertently overcharges someone (like in this instance, for a meal plan upgrade) and it goes unnoticed, does WDW ever audit their books and send refunds? That is, if you don't catch the mistake, will WDW ever find it themselves and make it right?

I could see this easily happening when booking a package ressie. I always get a grand total and many CMs aren't good at itemizing all the charges.

I doubt it since package prices aren't itemized. It's up to the customer to make sure they aren't overcharged (like looking at a price tag before buying an item in the store).

hubby is VERY good about making sure he knows what the prices should be on the various package options before calling... nunmerous times the total price is more than he knew it should be....
him"um, that's not right, check your numbers. oh! are you adding insurance onto that plan? I didnt' ask for insurance"
and the Cms on the phone don't always know much abou WDW. I was talking to a dining CM once. we got to chatting.. turns out, she was talking to me from ALgonquin < IL about 4 miles from my house! and I knew TONS more about WDW than she did!

I believe some of the call centers aren't even in Florida - one I know is in Tampa, not Orlando. it is not suprising that the phone agents do not know much about WDW as many of them do not actually work there.

Which is really an obnoxious state of affairs since there are no "price tags" published for the components of a Disney vacation. CM roulette is without a doubt Disney's biggest customer service failing; people shouldn't have to take the time to scour Mousesavers or Allears or WDWinfo to put together prices to be prepared for CMs who can't all accurately price a vacation.

I agree.
