Hey ya FLICX!

I know I'm the lead troublemaker! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

If you ever get to the Grand Floridian, ask to see one of their DELUXE rooms in the main building! LOL ! Holy Smokes! You'll love it! Start saving now though! LOL!

Hope you're doing Terrific on this windy, damp, Friday night! LOL!

My hope is that one more time in my life I get to stay at the poly in any room!Just love that hotel, just can't stomach the price. My wife and I were a knats eyelash away from the castle room in 09 though. The couple in front of us got picked for the year of million dreams that year, and you guessed it the prize they got was a night in the castle suite.Any way I'm thinking more and more my next and possible last deluxe stay may be at disneyland in the grand californian. It is alot closer to my price range in offseason.I plan on taking that once in lifetime trip maybe next year if everything works out alright.Save Save Save!I better not look at a room at GF brunette, if you don't know what you are missing you won't want it then!:rotfl:

Well, yeah ... there is that. ;)

I just think that this thread is still going because you guys are all enjoying chatting with each other. At this point, it's more about you all sharing stories than it is about complaining or making any major observations about Disney going downhill. The few "defenders of Disney" who are still around are also, I think, here more for the camaradarie of the group than for any sort of active debate. There are a few people who are still trying to push buttons, but no one is really taking the bait any more. It's all turned into what my grandpa would call "a lazy afternoon discussion".

:earsboy:
I think that you could be partially right. However I also think that sitting around blowing pixie dust in each other's faces might get dull after a while. I can see it now... "Disney is wonderful and this is why." "Yes I agree." "That happened to me too." "Disney is amazing." Etc...

That is no more a discussion thread than one that is completely negative. I enjoy discussing Disney, warts and all. Actually I enjoy WDW more as a result of these types of discussions.

As for chatting, this type of discussion at least used to go on on the Rumors Board too. I haven't been there in a while but it always involved primarily the same people too.

flicx, we stayed at the Polynesian a few times when DS was just a baby and loved it. Then we decided to be practical and stay in some moderates for a while. I wish that I'd known then what I know now. I can't begin to justify paying for the Polynesian Resort nowadays. We just go over there and visit and I reminisce a little. :cloud9:

I hear you plano, been a long while since we stayed too.We split the room the first time we stayed with friends and most times after that too.We sacrificed in a lot of other areas just to afford the discounted 180 dollar offseason pin rate.We always go there and look around too when we are at the world, alas though I have almost come to terms with the fact that the discount rate will never be low enough to stay again.I'm just hoping someday one of my buddies will get a job there so I can have one more run at the poly.

Still is -- that's where I tend to hang -- but it's not nearly as active as this forum.

Both of these posts by these gentlemen, are awesome. Both were a great read. Wish you guys posted more often...:thumbsup2

Anyway, I really enjoyed reading these! I couldn't have said it better.:thumbsup2

:worship::worship:
I couldn't agree more! I enjoy your posts too! :goodvibes

It's quite interesting how this discussion has turned. :surfweb: :3dglasses popcorn::

These posts are insulting and dismissive and beneath the quality of your other posts.

Someone posted a well-thought out list of things he likes over the past years... someone else posts a list of things he didn't like in the same period. It's called a discussion -- and it's what takes place on a discussion board.

I hope you think the better of attacking someone for taking the time to create a substantive list of problem areas. I know I wouldn't dream of attacking KSDisneyDad for his equally well-considered list.
Wow. What a wonderful post - this was very kind of you. It is so sweet of you to stick up and defend others.

Anyway, as you know, I copied it from the "UP HILL" thread -- which is quite the oxymoron. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=42105150&postcount=307

I don't think you're a pot stirrer at all. A PP stated that this thread was negative - so you made the comment that the 'UP HILL' thread was "negative" and the 'DOWN HILL' thread was "positive"! Not only is it hilarious but it's true, LOL. :rotfl:

First page ~ UP HILL thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2769239

Last page ~UP HILL thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2769239&page=22

Defenders of Mediocrity?!? LOL! :rotfl: I eagerly sought the 'UP HILL' thread to post my enthusiasm in support of Disney's efforts to revitalize it's parks -- I was shocked to see such negativity and chose not to post in the thread -- it's futile.

I just had to stand up for you - because you stood up for others and the gesture wasn't reciprocated.

Okay, I'm off my soap box so Brunette's amazing thread can get back on track. :wizard:

Thanks... I think people on both sides have made and continue to make very valid points (although it's pretty clear to me that there's been a very tangible loss of "the Disney difference" over the years).

The problems in these threads -- especially the other ones you found -- always happen when people take offense at anyone who wants to point out and discuss the flaws, as if they're being attacked personally. Like the thread on here that says all the "negative" posts should go on some other board, where they don't have to see them... as if the posts might be spreading some kind of infection of discontent.

If only Frank Wells didn't die,

When Splash Mountain was built An insider told the story about comments made by Wells and Eisner,

EISNER: We can't afford ....to build it!!

WELLS: We can't afford .... to NOT build it !!!

Competing with discounts isn't good

Competing with quality is.

Not even that. Go any day on expedia and you will find deal after deal or just low prices. I am looking at week of November 20th. GF average is $435 with 3 nights above $500. Waldorf Astoria is $179 with 10 % discount, Ritz $260 without discounts, huge difference in both price and service.

HI KELLYNY!

Somehow I missed your above post. You make some very valid points regarding the prices for deluxe outside resorts (Ritz Carlton) and the Grand Flordian. The prices are nearly 50 percent off. Seems like you can get a much better deal on rooms outside of Disney. Only downfall is that you would have to drive approximately 10 miles to WDW.

Hi DRDISNEYMD!

Great comparison regarding each thread. I'm glad you posted the difference on outcomes too! We encourage everyone to post here, in regards to their experience (good or bad) regarding WDW.

Your post was well thought out and enjoyable to read. We hope you post more often too!

Have a GREAT SATURDAY! Brunette

Evolution of this thread is ineed interesting and unusual for board. We did have hard times and at some point I felt that thread will be closed BUT it survived. Top 25 posters here have different positions but we have one thing in common, we can discuss without hanging on each others necks, we are honest, we do not wear rose glasses and we respect each others opinions. We are not agree on all points, what bothers Brunette, does not bother me and what bothers me does not bother Tiger but what bothers all of us is direction of things and we admit that there are problems and we are not afraid to say it and still insist that we love disney. In fact, we are here only because we love disney, otherwise we would change destination long time ago. We do not try to change minds or make statements, we are here to talk about something we love, openly and without judgement.

That depends... The Hyatt Grand Cypress (which is also on my list) is very close to Downtown Disney. I guess that it really depends on what you wish to be close to. Personally, I'd be happier if all of the area themeparks weren't so blasted far apart. :rotfl:

yes, but technically disney deluxes give great access to only one park and the rest is travel by bus, ferry, monorail, boat, and it takes sometimes longer then driving those 10 miles. Of course it depends on willingness to drive at all but strictly from financial point, even with renting car and paying for parking, it will come out much cheaper then onsite. talking about deluxes only, moderates saving depens on season and maybe not that much to bother and values come out depening on season almost always cheaper onsite.

We have gone recently during 2005, 2008, & 2010 while I have been during 1982, 1986, 1991, & 1997. We have had great experiences each time that we have gone (other than my DS getting a stomach bug the first night of 2005). The parks have looked clean, the bathrooms were fine, the rides were mostly functional, the food was very good.

That being said, Do I think that DW pushes the envelope for making a profit on every item that it can? absolutely!

Is that a turn-off? Yes.

Does it interfere with my DW experience? Not Yet.

I am looking forward to seeing the Fantasyland expansion, the new Star Tours, and eventually the Avatar area in AK.

But, I would also like to see a roller coaster somewhere in the World Showcase (Germany?), the DL Indiana Jones ride replace the show in HS, and the DL Fantasmic show in HS for starters.

Hey, I can wish upon that star too!

Hey brunette from what I read a new non disney owned deluxe resort is gonna start construction again soon at the osprey ridge golf course area.I believe it was gonna be a four seasons. It is supposed to have roof top views of the castle and will sit on what was formerly disney ground that they bought for 51 million.I can't remember when it was to be done but 2013 seems to come to mind!So should be more competition for the deluxe dollar!

Hey there Brerdog! Nice post. I agree I love roller coasters! Good roller coasters like the RRC at Hollywood Studios! That would be awesome. Yes, I hope the Avatar land will be exiciting too! I think they will be competing with Universal's Harry Potter with the Avatar land. Thanks for posting! Brunette

Hey FLICX-

The Four Seasons huh? Sounds wonderful. Thanks for the update! I'm sure they will be offering some kind of incentive to fill rooms! I would love to check it out. THANK you! Brunette

We  the Boardwalk. EPCOT and DHS are within walking distance. Frequently, we stroll through EPCOT and catch the monorail to MK.:thumbsup2

Just back from the World. I'm happy to report, the landscaping has improved ( no dead flowers), didn't see chipped paint and the bathrooms were cleaner. Sadly, the dining is getting worse.:( I only have Tusker House and Tutto Italia on our May dining list.

I go to WDW with the mindset that I won't worry much about food. We have a few favorite counterservice places and make one or two ADR's but we've pretty much decided that dining is a minor part of the experience. Based on quality and/or price it has to be. :)

Hi TLSNELL1981! Hope you had a great time. Could you elaborate a bit about your trip. We never been to Tutto Italia, maybe we can try it next we go. Thanks for posting.

Here's good news Disney has added WIFI to all their resorts. :thumbsup2 Thanks to Oglet for his link.

T E N miles?! Wah ha ha ha! Sorry but I find that funny. I drive 19 miles to WORK every day. If you lived in a sparsely populated place like Kansas, sometimes, you have long distances to drive for the most mundane stuff on a regular basis.
