Kid Meal Allocation/Seperate Reservations

We are going to Disney with my parents and our 3 kids and are on the regular meal plan. Two of my kids will be staying in a room with my DH and I (so on our reservation), the other kid will be in a connecting room with my parents. So technically, 1 of my kids is "attached" to my parents reservation.

How will this work with the the dining plan? I'm assuming that we will eat most of our meals with my parents so we'll all be together when the bill comes, but what if they aren't? Would my 3rd child not be able to eat if my parents aren't there? (Wouldn't his info be on his card? I'm not 100% clear on how the meals are "paid" for.)

For example, one of my kids wants to go to a character meal featuring princesses but the other 2 do NOT. So if my DH and I took one of our kids to a meal and our 2nd and 3rd kid went with my parents somewhere else would my 2nd kid be able to eat?

Do couples need to eat together as well?

While I understand how the dining plan works in terms of what is covered, I don't quite understand how it's kept track of - is it by ID or by reservation?

Each room reservation number will have their own dining plan. If you share a room reservation then you all will share dining credits. If your parents have a separate room reservation then your childs credits will be tied in with your parents.

If you have separate reserations, then you will just need to use two KTTW cards when paying. Let the server know how to break up payment between the cards. Your child will have their own KTTW card that you can carry with you at all times to help at meal time.

If you're all together on one reservation, no worries at all. :goodvibes

Thanks, so if one of the kids on my reservation dines with my parents, she can take the card and eat with them? (Just making sure I understand - don't want to strand my kid w/o food. ;) )

Make sure each person's KTTW card travels with them. If your parents take a kid from your room to eat, that kid will need to have their own KTTW card so their meal can be paid for.

If both your rooms are under the same room reservation number, it won't matter whose card is used.

So would it be difficult to make a reservation that splits the groups up?

We are thinking that one day the "girls" of the group (my mom, 2 of my kids, and me) would go to Akerhaus for a Princess meal an the "boys" (my dad, DH, and 1 of my kids) would go to the Biergarten. Probably not doable online but what about if I called the reservation line? Can they do that?

You won't be able to make two reservations for the same time under the same name. Apparently the online system won't let you do that anymore, and if you do it by phone you may end up having to explain to the CM why you want two reservations. Book them under different names.

If you have a meal plan can you eat a big meal during the day and lunch type at night. What if you have 7 people and do not eat all meals together? Thanks for your info.

You can eat whatever type of meal you want at any time, and you can use as many of your credits in a day as you want. As TDC Nala said, as long as each person has their own KTTW card, there is no problem whether you eat together, apart, mixed between rooms or whatever.

We did this on our trip this past August and it is not a problem. Usually your server will ask who is on the plan and at that time you will just need to let them know that you will be using separate cards to pay for the meals. Just make sure you always have the card for your child that is in another room. Double check your receipts after each meal. We had one get messed up so they took 2 adults and 2 children off of my in-laws room instead of just one child and took just the one child meal off of our card. We didn't notice until we had extra meals a few days later. It all worked out in the end because my in-laws ended up skipping a meal anyways, but I can imagine if we had to call and get it sorted out it would not have been fun.
