Ahoy Matey! ... Not. Pirate Alternatives

Let's just say that for some reason you didn't want to attend the Pirates party.

Does the entire ship stop for that activitiy?
Is there anything else that might be entertaining for an 8 year old and her parents?

We have done two Disney Cruises and the entire ship does not stop for the pirate party from what I remember. You could go on deck and swim, see a show. I just remember them doing that at dinner time. You do not have do dress up for it if you wish. There were lots that did not do it on our cruises.

The party itself is about an hour, ending with the fireworks and buffet. The family pool closes on the Magic and the Wonder (not sure about the Dream but if it's not closed, the area will be packed!). Since they also set up an evening buffet, the decks are crowded.

There will be programming in the kid's clubs, movies in the movie theater, and some other events in a location or two - but since most of the cruise staff is involved in the party, there's not a lot else going on. My recommendation would be to find some recent navigators online for the same cruise itinerary that you are planning to sail, and see what is listed at the same time as the party.

The pool's closed on the Dream too, it turns into a dance floor. We went to the Pirate Party last time...eh. Won't be doing it again, too cheesey for me IMHO:)

I think they actually closed both pools for the pirate party and closed the floor over them. I can't really remember, I don't like those deck parties, too loud and crowded for me, but do remember walking by afterwards and both pools were covered. Then again, that may have been the sail away party. Either way there is no way the pools are open during the deck parties.

We are just off the Dream today (our 8th Disney Cruise but 1st on the new ship). We are also not fans of Pirate Night. We booked Remy's and enjoyed a fantastic 3 hour meal that ended just around 10:30. After dinner, we sat on the outside deck of Meridian where we were able to watch the fireworks from comfy chairs while drinking cocktails in a serene setting.

If you don't wish to eat a Remy's, you could book a late seating at Palo and do the same.

We LOVE Pirate Night...because almost everyone is on deck at the party, we can enjoy sitting on the nice lounge chairs on Deck 4 or having a drink in one of the bars. That's also our night for dinner at Palo. We usually finish there just in time to enjoy the fireworks.

The deck parties are too loud, too crowded and, as a PP said, too cheesy for us too. But it's easy enough to avoid all that stuff!

We just got back from a B2B, and on pirate night we saw the first show from Deck 12 both times. It wasn't crowded up there so you could see all the fun without being surrounded by people. Also, right after the fireworks occur, the buffet in Cabana's opens. The second night we skipped the second show because it does get crowded even on 12 and headed right to the buffet. Also, I believe that they were also showing Pirates in the Vista theater around the time of the pirate parties.

We didn't really care for the menu on that night on our last cruise, so this time we've booked dinner at Palo for that night.

This was our thought too, although the menu had changed slightly this summer. This is typically our Palo night.

The other thing that might matter to you--there are no "nightclub" munchies on pirate night as there are on the other nights. The food service is only at the pirate buffet or room service.

There is a serious problem with these boards. They make me miss my fresh fruit in the evening!
