Flying instead of driving...

So we go to Disney in just about a month... we planned to drive this whole time, but now DH is saying we should search flying and compare the costs of flying VS driving.... UMMMMM why couldn't he ask about this a month or two ago??? Well that's besides the point :rotfl2:

Sooooo who do you guys book for Disneyland in California?? We would leave from Calgary!

Any fantastic cheap websites... checked expedia really quick here before bed and it's roughly $1900 for the four of us and a lapsit infant. That is not including hotel as we booked one already.

Oh, and we actually have to fly into Las Vegas as we are attending a wedding the night before the DL trip. So we would rent a car to drive from LV to DL and back. Quick price check was $250 roughly for the total time. No hotel needed in LV.

Our dates are: ck in Oct 2 / check out Oct 7

Thanks for your help!!! My head is swirling now.... :scared1:

Check individual airlines prices, not just expedia. Lots of airlines don't make their fares available to wholesale websites like Expedia. Also, if possible, drive to the states and fly from there and you'll usually save a bundle.

I only fly westjet as they have the best price and direct flights. But I fly out of Edmonton but Calgary should have the same. Buying your flights now will cost you as the demand is higher because it is closer to the day you want to fly. We are driving down to Vegas in Oct and flying back and it still cost this family of 4 $1200 to fly home! If you decide to fly, and you book westjet just a little suggestion. Book your flights as one way (purchase one way down and book seperate to fly home). Westjet charges fees that you shouldn't have to pay from flying from the states. We saved around $400. Also I book with flightnetwork.com and use the promocode (perks11!) and save $10 per person. Hope this helps.

i use www.kayak.com to compare prices it is not a low fare web site it is a search engine that brings up prices on the other web sites ( BOTH EXPEDIA TYPE SITES AND AIRLINES websites) it then provides links to the websites :surfweb:

We just booked a trip to Phoenis through Travelocity and saved $90 per person over Expedia or the airlines' websites. Unfortunately, you pretty much have to check each individual website for Expedia, Travelocity, the various airlines (check all of the ones Expedia/Travelocity bring up), etc to get the best pricing vs travel times. This takes a bit of time, but can save some big dollars. Also, sign up for TravelZoo as they find some amazing deals ... like a 14 day cruise to Europe for $449/person. I'd avoid Horizon though, their planes tend to go mechanical ... a LOT.

Fortunately for you, flying out of Calgary is a LOT cheaper then those of us that fly out of Edmonton :headache:

Interesting suggestion... I just checked westjet and if booked separately I would save a total of $67... I mean, it's not 400, but still!!! Thanks for suggesting that :thumbsup2 YAY!!

I know if we would have booked 6 weeks ago we would have saved money :headache: but who knew!??!?! LOL I am not leaning towards flying though, thinking 3 days on either end with the baby could be a bit of a nightmare driving LOL -- I will probably book tonight... I am feeling nervous though, a lot of money to suddenly shell out even though we budgeted for the same driving.... I guess it's the ALL AT ONCE factor that is bothering me!!
