What would you do.

If you booked 3 cabins on gty and yours was only one not upgraded? So you have paid for all 3 as well as brought/paid for lots of people in the past who have returned on their own. So you have booked 20 cabins before and you don't get upgraded but the others do? We did book the category we would be happy with so that isn't the issue. Would you call Disney and try to switch with one of the others (since you know they won't check online and be aware you did that)? Sounds petty I know but honestly how would you feel? One of our guests even bought a 400 pt DVC contract they enjoyed our cruise so much.

To book a GTY room expecting (or even hoping for) an upgrade is asking for disappointment. That's why the GTY is relatively less expensive. It's a risk you take when you book that category. I wouldn't call DCL, but I'd be happy for those who were lucky enough to receive an upgrade.

If you paid for all the cabins out of your own pocket I don't see a problem calling DCL to see if they could switch you with one of the upgraded cabins. I wouldn't make it about past bookings or anything but in THIS case if you paid for all 3 I would say there's no issue with you getting one of the better cabins. JMHO of course.

I would call to asks if you could switch considering your circumstance. Especially since your friends will not check. If you can switch great, if not no big deal since you booked your preferred category.

Hi, I'm sabrecmc and I'd be petty, too! I admit it, that would be disappointing. Happy for others, but jeez, lol. Honestly, I'd probably just laugh it off and go with the flow. Heck, if you're in one of the virtual porthole cabins and they aren't, they might be jealous!

You could call DCL and explain, but I don't know if they'd be able to switch you. They might be able to note on your account that your reservations are linked, so perhaps if further upgrades become available, that might help? I know sometimes upgrades are influenced by lots of factors, such as lifeboat capacity, that kind of thing. So, I wouldn't expect anything, obviously.

Sure is nice of you to pay for the cruise!

If you paid for the cruise absolutely see if you can change the arrangements. My sister-in-law paid for a beach house at the OBX one year and invited my family to stay with them at no charge. I fully expected her to take the nicest room and she did.

In my opinion - YOUR $$$$ = YOUR upgrade!!!!
Call & get switched!
Or just move into one of the "better" rooms and let one of the other parties take your assigned room.

Beth, I was NOT expecting an upgrade, that is why i booked the category I am happy in. That is NOT the issue! I have sailed 9 times and never been upgraded so expecting one is pretty unrealistic for me! The disappointment is NOT about not getting an upgrade but the fact that the other two cabins that i booked did and they have never sailed before.......

Based on the scenario you've noted above, i couldn't in good conscience secretly call DCL to switch to one of the "upgraded" cabins. I would always feel dishonest. But hey that's just me.

I don't think I could either, but I do understand the OP wanting to.

It depends on the situation, I still can't figure out if you paid for all of the cabins or not. If you paid for all three, of course you should call and ask to be switched (I would). If you only booked them, but did not pay for them, then I think it would be very wrong of you to call and ask. jmo

I guess if there are the same amount of people booked in each cabin it would be easy to call DCL and see if they can switch your cabin with one of the others you are linked with. If the guest numbers don't match up it will probably be harder for them to make a switch.

But go with your conscience and do what You think is right! :wizard:

Totally agree. Petty, party of one...

One other thing to consider is that your friends may feel a little awkward if they realize that you are in a lower category of cabin than they are. I know *I* would feel bad if someone paid for my cruise and was sailing in a lower category. I would want to switch right away.

Since you asked for opinions, I'll give you mine. I wouldn't change it on the sly. (Keep in mind, the cabin you are assigned now may not stay the same. They can reassign you or the others any time until they hand you your KTTW card. And if you call and "complain" about one cabin not being upgraded while the other two were, you all may be put in the lower category.)

I would hope that the people I'm traveling with would do the right thing. If you paid for the cruise, and I was the other party, once I heard what happened, I would absolutely trade cabins with you. (I'd wait until we were checking in and have that agent swap the rooms. I think that would be easier and as I said above, DCL may not react well to you moving gty cabins around -- you really have no right to ask.)

(As others have said, it's unclear if you actually paid for the other cabins. If you didn't, I'd just shut my mouth, be happy for the others and enjoy my cruise.)

So basically, you are upset that your friends got the luck and you did not? How about being ecstatic that your friends who are first-time cruisers are going to get to experience a wonderful upgrade on their maiden voyage?

Question: You buy a lottery ticket for yourself and one for your friend as a birthday gift. Your friend's ticket wins. Sure you're a little jealous, but isn't it a great thing for your friend? And wouldn't you be happy for him/her?

Just my two cents. Let your friends enjoy their upgrade.

If I paid for all three rooms, then I would not lose any sleep about calling DCL to transfer myself into one of the rooms that were upgraded. On the other hand, if someone else paid thousands of dollars for me to go on a vacation on a cruise ship, I wouldn't have the nerve to complain that they got a nicer room than I did. You can transfer names to a point without paying a fee. You have to do a name change and not transfer them all at once. DCL should be able to do this if your CC has paid for all of them though.

ok. thanks for your opinions. we did pay for all the cabins, always have. we love disney cruiseline and are lucky we are able to introduce lots of people to the cruise. now that a bit of time has passed since the original "surprise" i think we are going to leave well enough alone. i realize disney may still change our cabins before its all said and done. we really are happy in the category we booked so that is not even an issue. i was a bit jealous but i do know i will most likely get to sail again and my friends may not so...... thanks again for all the thoughts.

Heck NO.

Sorry but I would want a cut. This is why I only buy lottery tickets for immediate family who I KNOW will give me a cut. Actually, my sister signs her name on the back of any lottery tickets she gives to customers (she is a bar tender) or acquaintances BEFORE she gives it to them, so that they HAVE to share it with her.
