Another Boma question

I have a question. We are going to Boma for dinner one night, and after reading the other thread I'm scared. I absolutely do not like curry or Indian food for that matter. Will I like the food there? I don't mind sweet, cinnamon, fruit, etc but curry and I are NOT friends!

I'm not a fan of curry either or spicy (hot) foods but I ate three times at Boma and enjoyed it. I don't eat a lot of meat but there were plenty of salad a vegetable items to choose. There is an odd scent in the air but I think you'll do just fine. We haven't been for a few years but that's mostly because there were other places we wanted to try.

We love BOMA! We'll be taking my mom there for her first time in the next week and a half and she's super excited.

The food is different, at least you're prepared with that thought in mind;). Hard to pinpoint tastes exactly. If you don't like curry, shouldn't be a problem - there are a lot of curries in the world though, is it all of them you don't like (Indian, West Indian, Japanese, Thai - all cultures curries taste different)?

If you're fine with the sweet, cinammon, vanilla flavours, then you should be fine. I find they use those more than anything.

Enjoy!

I don't know about the curry question. I am guessing Indian curry. My friends are Indian and when she cooks, I just don't like it. :( I wish I did!

They have dishes with curry mixed in, but the majority of the curry sauced are on the side for you to add if you wish. :thumbsup2 I don't like curry anything either.

I did NOT like Boma's, the spices were just not to my liking, it was a lot of odd spices that apparently I don't like. I don't like curry either, but I don't even know what the spices they used were. I'll never go back there. I think I filled up on choco. chip cookies:)

Boma may have a curry dish or even 2, but it is a buffet. If you don't like it then don't take it. Don't confuse Boma with Sanaa, the other AKL (Kidani) which does have a primarily South Asian menu.

I also am not a big fan of curry, and was concerned about eating at Boma, but it was great for me. First, as a PP said, there are not that many dishes with curry. Second, it is a buffet, and Boma has tons of choices. DW is often frustrated by buffets, but she loved Boma, and I have to say it is great. It is so good that I would even consider going there more than once on a trip. Plus, the zebra domes make it all worthwhile.

I have found very little with curry there, and most dishes are pretty clearly marked. There are also a number of chefs/servers behind the tables; ask about any dish you're not sure of.

I was concerned not only about curries but about hot spices in general as I am not a fan, and I knew very little about African cuisines. I found there was very little that was peppery/hot.

The thing is that they have different preparations for each of the meats, and they seem to rotate to different, unpublished days. For instance, last year on the day we went the salmon dish had a pistachio-nut crust that was absolutely wonderful. When we went this year the salmon dish was topped with red and green peppers, and a chef escorting the group in front of me warned the people that it was 'fire-engine hot'. DH promptly took some but when we got back to the table even he didn't finish it. Apparently the chef was not kidding.....
