Does everyone remember where they were or what they were doing when the official announcement was made?

For me, it was the night my boyfriend and I were moving into our first apartment together. Trite? We were just finishing unloading the u-haul when my NYTimes alert came through on my phone.

How about you guys?

I was lucky enough to be @ Stonewall when the news broke. My girlfriend grew up right down the street in the West Village so we went down to her parents to wait for the vote. It's a moment I will never forget!

We were curled up in bed watching it unfold live on tv. Totally perfect evening. Once passed, the phone didn't stop ringing - the support from our friends and family was overwhelming. :)

We don't have TV (family experiment) and I was tired so I was sleeping. I got a phone call from our best friend which I missed because I didn't get to the phone on time to let us know. Unknown to me DP had been out on the front porch watching the hearings on her Droid and she started calling me because DD had accidently locked her out on the front porch:rotfl:

So I will always remember that night with a smile for so many reasons.

Needless to say I didn't go back to sleep anytime soon after that.

Appropriately, I was in tech rehearsals for a show I'm doing in NYC. Everyone was kind of following it all day through smart phones and/or computers. When the official news came in, everybody cheered. It was a great moment.

I was in the theater district of Manhattan, having just left How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying when I read the news on perezhilton.com

It was definitely a perfect place to hear about it! :)

Watching the Rachel Maddow show and seeing the whole thing happen right in front of my eyes. Amazing. Something I'd thought I would never see.

My husband (effective July 25th, thank you NY State!!:lovestruc) and I were sitting on the couch and I was simultaneously watching it live on TV on YNN (New York news station for those not in NY State)----AND I was on the National Organization for Marriage blog :-)mad:) refreshing it every 30 seconds to see what kind of hateful things they were posting throughout the vote. And then when the vote finally came it was all I could do not to post "na na na na na na" on their blog :lmao:....but I was too busy crying, hugging my partner and calling and texting everyone I knew to bother with icky old NOM.:thumbsup2

We were on Bleecker Street, just north of Christopher, in Greenwich Village. We'd spent the evening in town, and were looking for a piercing place to help David take out his so-called "permanent" earrings (he needed an MRI the next day, and I didn't have the tools to take them out for him). I got the SMS from CNN that it had passed. The mood on the street was jubilant, to put it mildly.

Congratulations!! I knew you were determined to wait until New York made it legal. It is a great feeling to be legally married.
