Le Cellier or Via Napoli/Tutto Italia for non-red meat eaters?

Hi guys,

My mom and I are trying to decide between dinner at Le Cellier or Via Napoli/Tutto Italia for our trip this December. We have never tried any of these restaurants, but I have read all of the rave reviews about Le Cellier over the years and just managed to snag an ADR there. We are not red-meat eaters, though, so I wonder if Le Cellier's non-red meat options still make it the better choice over Via Napoli/Tutto Italia? My mom is Italian, so we would obviously be fine with the food selection at either of the Italian restaurants... but is Le Cellier a much more unique dining experience? If you prefer Le Cellier, which non-red meat dishes should we try?

Thoughts? :confused3

Thanks!

Or maybe we should try Le Cellier for lunch and one of the Italian restaurants for dinner? It looks like Le Cellier's lunch menu has more non-red meat options...

If we were to do this, which Italian restaurant would you choose for dinner?

I have only had the filet at Le Cellier. Their meat entrees are what they are known for. I have had non read meat meals at both VN and TI and they are grerat. I would highly recommend them. My daughters are both crazy for the pizzas and VN with the fresh mozzerella.

I have had dinner at Le Cellier many times (before it was switched to 2 credits). I don't eat red meat or pork and I try to stay away from other meats except fish. That usually left two entrees to choose from - a salmon entree and a veggie entree. I can't even eat the cheddar cheese soup because of the bacon. We go for DH to eat steak, not for the ample veggie options :rotfl:

I would think you would have more of a selection at Via Napoli or Tutto Italia (even though I have not tried either). I usually have good luck at Italian places with substitutions and always have had more options than a steakhouse.

Have fun!

Personally I wasnt crazy about le cellier. My steak wasnt great. the "famous" soup wasnt anything spectacular, either was the bread sticks. So there's no way i'd recommend a non-red meat eater go there for dinner when its 2 TS credits!! (are you on the dining plan?). But if the menu appeals to you, try it for lunch, not dinner! I'd pick Tutto or Via Napoli over LC thou. Just look at the menu's on this site and decide that way. :)

Thanks for the replies!

We are not on the dining plan, so paying OOP. Le Cellier looks pretty $ for dinner and I do not see very many non-red meat entrée options. I think I will keep my ADR for lunch there just in case and then do one of the Italian restaurants for dinner. Any other opinions about Via Napoli vs Tutto Italia?

We prefer Via Napoli to Tutto Italia but check both menus here on the DIS and see which works better for you.

Always liked the salmon entree at Le Cellier - prefer this to their steak offerings which are nothing different than something you could make at home.

The eggplant appetizer at Tutto is awesome.

I always wonder why a non-red meat eater would want to eat at a steak house in the first place. Or (for example) why someone who doesn't like fish would want to eat at a seafood place. I don't care how good the inside of the restaurant looks, or how great the service. It's what's on the plate that counts.

Sorry. mini rant over. Please continue.

It is possible for a steakhouse to still have equally great turkey/fish/chicken/pasta items, as well as great appetizers and desserts. I understand your argument if a vegetarian is considering eating at a steakhouse. :confused3 We have been to WDW many times and I've always been curious about Le Cellier due to its popularity on here, so hence my interest in trying it...

Flying Fish is a fish restaurant that's known for having one of WDW's best steaks. Le Cellier is a steakhouse that has one of WDW's most popular soups. Yachtsman is a steakhouse yet we've always liked the chicken more than their steak. I don't think these places are limited to serving good food in their respective niche.

That said, unless one of the dishes on Le Cellier's dinner menu really stands out to the OP, it sounds like Via Napoli or Tutto Italia would be a better choice.

Have to echo Donald...and Le Cellier has one of the best (and pretty much only) craft beer choices at WDW: Unibroue.

And one of the best fish courses I have had in the past year or two was at Yachtman's and the NY strip at Flying Fish might be the best I've had so far at WDW

I don't like steak and I do fine at Le Cellier. i love the mussels, they only have them at lunch though. But I would never order a steak there. and count me in with Tommie, I'll go for the Unibroue.

It's not automatic that a restaurant labeled "steak house" shouldn't be expected to produce anything worth eating besides steak.

The best meal that I have EVER had was at Le Cellier - it was the pan-seared scallops & beets and a crab custard appetizer. It was wonderful! But that was two years ago. Now there is nothing on the menu that appeals to me (I'm not a steak eater). I won't be back with the menu items that they have now.

We also don't do red meat or pork. I think Le Cellier is one of the best even with that constraint. We plan on lunch for three going with three appetizers, one or two main courses and desserts. The mussels were very good and the chicken sausage was a recipe we brought home.

Yum! All sounds good. We will definitely go for lunch and I made an ADR for Via Napoli for dinner. I think we will go outside our comfort zone a little bit and try the infamous Cheddar Soup w/bacon and then do either a salad/extra app plus an entrée to share.. maybe salmon? And we'll obviously have to split one of the desserts too. ;) Getting excited! Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Tutto Italia, all the way.

We were thinking we might like to have the option of eating either pizza or pasta for dinner and saw that Tutto Italia does not serve pizza, while Via Napoli serves both. Would you say that the food quality is much better at Tutto? The restaurant decor seemed a little more tacky to me than that of Via Napoli. Of course, I'm sure some might disagree with me about that...

I would go with Via Napoli. The pizza and pasta are great there and it has great ambiance. We ate at Tutto Italia once and thought the food was okay, but a bit pricey for what we got. Since you aren't using the DDP that may be something to consider.

My DF is a veggie and he INSISTED that we return to Le Cellier, he had the gnocchi and loved it. It is now only on the lunch menu rather than dinner so that's what we've booked :) Plus he doesn't eat any white bread so really enjoyed the wholemeal bread sticks too :thumbsup2
