Magic in NYC~June 2, 2012

Oh Darvina!! That is so cute!! I love it. Looks like your DDs had a great time working on it as well. What a great family project!

Yours is so much more fun though! Looks great :thumbsup2

Thanks guys! It's a bit of work but we did have fun and the best part is seeing how excited they are! They can't wait to start counting down! Now I have to decide where to put this thing! Maybe I should have it chain around their rooms...

Well, you can't really go with the less stressful Pittsburgh train idea because then your DW won't be able to have breakfast Hoboken Style. Yes, I do believe I see the Lincoln Tunnel in your future! But how bad can it be on a Saturday morning? Just be glad we are not sailing on a Friday!

The NY terminal may not really have the whole Disney Theme going, but the Intrepid is docked right next to all the cruise ships and that's fun to see and of course The Statue of Liberty will be there wishing us a bon voyage!!
LadyLiberty.jpg

And don't forget beautiful views of the skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. :goodvibes If I get a chance to get down to the pier before our trip, I will take some informational pictures. I need to do some other cruise line ship tours (I'm a travel agent), so there is a pretty good chance I'll get down there!

List of DISers who have checked in can be found on this list:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...FEzbE4xZEU2aHktVkloYmNiWFlKeVE&hl=en_US#gid=0

Please let me know if I'm missing a celebration or have any wrong information.
The blue font indicates those who have signed up for the FE.

I listed the ages of the children at the time of sailing. I hope! :)

No last names, addresses, or emails are listed.

Great idea! I am going to go sign up for the FE. We definitely want to do that!

I have some skyline photos too! I'll post a few until you can get there to take some of your own! This is the view we'll all have as we sail out of NYC!!

You can see the Empire State Building in this one.

If anyone has NYC questions - like safe areas/good areas to stay, transportation, cheap (but good) eats, etc. I am more than willing to help! We are in Manhattan a lot, so I can stop by a hotel if you'd like and take a few pictures, look around the lobby to get a vibe, etc.

Thanks Maria! The pictures are gorgeous and my girls loved them!

Thanks Brook! I've read a bunch of different things so far, but would love your opinion... Better to stay in NJ or NYC? NJ definitely cheaper right? How about tours? Do you think we could squeeze a quick tour of NYC the night before the cruise?

Hello -

I had read a bit ago on the DIS that many cruise meets will create a Facebook group that is open only to the people on the cruise. It said that it is a great way for the fellow cruisers to get to know each other more.

I created a group (Disney Magic - June 2, 2012) if anyone is on Facebook and would like to join - please do.

Kristi

My son who is sailing w/us works in Manhatten and we live about an hour away so are lucky not to have to fly:goodvibes We plan on taking a town car to the port. Our cabin is on Deck 6..I rebooked our NYC cruise on my Dream cruise 2 weeks ago and saved $300 plus got a $200 OBC so Iam even more excited. I guess that's about it for now. Looking forward to the cruise:lovestruc

Hi and :welcome: Aboard!

My DH and I are also on deck 6, Cabin 6624!

I am the keeper of the FE List and the list of all us DISers that are crusing aboard the magic. This will be my 4th MAGICal Cruise. My third one is coming up in October. I too am so GLAD I do not have to fly for this one. We are about 40 minutes from the pier. Anyway, in case you want to join the FE Exchange, just refer to post 3. We also have a Facebook Group page as well which KristiMc started for us.

Just wanted to say Hi!! :wave2:

Glad you're joining us! I can't wait to hear what your thoughts will be regarding the comparison of the Dream to the Magic and which you'll like better!

Take care!

NJ will most likely always be cheaper - and the access into Manhattan is very easy by bus or the PATH train. They both run directly into the City and from there you can transfer to the MTA (the subway). Or cab it!

As for doing a quick tour, I think it's doable! Are you thinking of going on an official tour bus or the like? The ones I have researched give you a 24 hour time window and you can do as little, or as much, as you'd like-you hop on and off the bus - and they go everywhere! If you are just going to do it on foot, you won't get as much covered, but the price tag will be prettier. I would give yourself at least 3 or 4 hours to get a few sites covered, make a list of your favorites and go for those.

Excellent idea Kristi! I requested to join it. :goodvibes

Here are a couple NYC shots:

Skyline...obviously!

The current 9/11 Memorial and eternal flame. The "official" one opens 9/11 of this year, but I assume they will keep this as well. This sculpture was in the courtyard of the World Trade Center.

Times Square

And of course, the Times Square Disney Store! (terrible shot, but gives a glimpse!)

Thanks so much for the info/advice Brook! I LOVED the pictures and my girls loved the Disney Store one! I have a feeling that place may be a stop the night before. :rotfl2:

I was looking at the guided tour thing but maybe we'll just wing it on our own and catch a few sites! (or drop from exhaustion and stay at the hotel!) Anyway, for the time being, the only thing I decided to do is to stop trying to decide anything right now! :lmao:

Glad to share the NYC love! I am blessed to live here - I am very much a "City girl" and still have moments where I am amazed at where we live. Walking down Wall Street or seeing the skyline still has me in awe a bit. This City is beautiful and has SO MUCH history, it's fantastic! There are things that aren't wonderful about it - it's dirty, loud and expensive...but the positives far outweigh the negatives in my book! :goodvibes

If anyone wants pics of anything - just let me know, I quickly pulled those above off my Facebook, I'm always more than happy to share, or go snap a few new ones!

I just have to ask. Did you go to the Harry Potter exhibit at the Discovery Times Square? I went with my goddaughters during April Vacation and it was fantastic! AND Carlos Bakery was opening up a counter there! No need to go to Hoboken! :rotfl2:

I am not entirely certain what the Discovery Times Square is....? Is that a building within Times Square? But, nope! I didn't know there was a Potter exhibit at all. But that bakery....that sounds good!

Disney has added 3 New York hotels to be that you can link into your cruise reservation for a pre- or post- stay:

Westin New York Times Square
New York Marriott Marquis
Loews Regency Hotel

Of course you can stay wherever, it just won't be part of the package! :goodvibes:
