We had pretty much done everything we wanted to do at DHS, so decided to go back to our hotel for a nap before dinner. But there was just one more thing I wanted to do first
get a Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake to eat sometime later. Sadly though, when we got to Starring Rolls Bakery (home of many of the wonderful cupcakes that Ive seen here, including the Red Velvet one) it was closed. Of all the times Ive been to DHS, I had never realized that Starring Rolls closed early. In looking at their information/menu listed here on the DIS, it says they close at 4:00 so I guess we were there after 4:00. So this is just a heads up to anyone heading to Starring Rolls for a cupcake fix
dont put it off, get your cupcakes early.
Anyway, we were really disappointed. Well actually I was disappointed, DD really didnt care. But when I suggested that we drown our sorrows with cocktails at the Tune In Lounge, she was all for that idea!
For those of you who are not already familiar with this little bar, it can be found sandwiched in between two sit-down restaurants, Hollywood & Vine and the 50s Prime Time Café. I had noticed it during our many times dining at the Prime Time, as it shares this small space with the waiting area for the restaurant. However, I had never before gotten a drink there, so this was our first experience at the Tune In Lounge.
Dad's Well-Stocked Liquor Cabinet
We were lucky and quickly scored two seats at the bar. After looking over and discussing the drinks listed on the cocktail menu, we placed our orders with the friendly bartender, David. He seemed to know several of the guests sitting around us and vice versa, so I would guess that he has worked there for many years. DD ordered a drink called Dad's Electric Lemonade ($10.50). Here is how this is described on the menu: Dad whips up an electrifying blue drink with Bacardi Rum, Skyy Vodka, blue curacao, sweet & sour and sprite. She gave Dad a for his tasty lemonade!
I chose a drink that Id heard about here many times, but had yet to try the Magical Star Cocktail ($10.50). Here is how it is described: Light up your celebration with X-Fusion Organic Mango and Passion Fruit Liqueur, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, pineapple juice, and a souvenir multicolored glow cube. Actually DDs drink also had a glow cube, or as they are called here Dad's "Experimental Electric Ice Cubes". So we ended up each getting our first ever glow cube souvenir.
Although I liked my cocktail and drank every last drop I probably wouldnt get it again. There are just too many other drinks that Id like to try here, like the Mowie Wowie or Grandmas Picnic Punch. You gotta love the names of their specialty drinks!
Dad's Electric Lemonade and the Magical Star Cocktail
The Tune In Lounge seems to be a popular place, as it was quite busy the whole time we were there (during the late afternoon). Open spots at the bar are snatched up quickly, so there is no room for hesitation here. I also wanted to add that a couple sitting next to us ordered food from the Prime Time menu to eat while having their drinks. This included an order of onion rings that looked delicious, but sadly they didnt offer us any. So anyway, if you enjoy the food at Prime Time but dont feel like eating with your long-lost relatives, then the Tune In Lounge might be just the place for you. Oh, and dont forget to try something from Dads Liquor Cabinet!
Total OOP cost (including 18% TIW required gratuity) $21.68
20% TIW Discount - $4.20
