Introduction

Hey Y'all. I just finished my TR

My Feet are Killing Me And I Want a Lollipop

and I just wasn't ready to stop reliving our absolutely wonderful trip last month. So I thought I would put together a dining review. I hope that you will enjoy reading along and that my reviews help you in choosing restaurants in Disney on your next vacation. I have read a good many dining reviews and they have really helped me decide which places to eat and which to possibly avoid.

Oh, and be ready for lots of food porn. Essential to every dining review, I think.

So I guess Introductions are in order. On this trip, my DH, DS11, DD8 and myself stayed at Old Key West Resort form June 17-24. Hop on over to my TR if you would like to see photos of the resort. I have A LOT. It was a wonderful place to stay and we would go back in a minute.

Here is DH and the kids in front of our 1 BR villa at Old Key West

And here's a picture of me and the kids

So we drove down that day and got the resort about 4:30ish. We checked in and got situated and tried to go swimming, but they had the pool closed since there had been some rain and lightening. We checked out the gift shop and on a whim, we decided to see if Olivia's could seat us for dinner.

100_1585.jpg

We got seated right away even though we didn’t have a reservation. Karen was our server and she was very friendly and accommodating. We told her about DD’s nut allergy and the chef came out to talk to us. There wasn’t much on their children’s menu to worry about, but it was nice that he come out anyway.

I ordered a Magic Star Cocktail - Light up your celebration with X-Fusion Organic Mango and Passion Fruit Liqueur, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Pineapple Juice, and a souvenir multicolored glow cube. The kids loved the blinking ice cube they give you. And the drink was very tasty. Sweet boozy fun.

100_1588.jpg

100_1590.jpg

DH ordered a Grand Margarita - 1800 Reposado Tequila, Grand Marnier, Lime Juice, and Sweet-and-Sour. He really liked it.

100_1589.jpg

The kids had sodas

100_1587.jpg

They brought out some yummy bread. I think it was the same kind you get at Ohana’s but I’m not sure. It was a pineapple coconut bread. VERY good.

100_1591.jpg

DD ordered the children’s pizza and apple slices. She liked the pizza, but the brown sugar that they put on the apple slices turned her off and she wouldn’t eat them. Don’t ya just love picky kids ?? DD is very picky and it is often a source of great frustration.

100_1596.jpg

100_1597.jpg

DS ordered a cheeseburger – he said it was good. It looked and smelled good.

100_1598.jpg

100_1595.jpg

DH and I decided to split an entrée, But for starters, I ordered a salad - Mixed Green Salad - with citrus vinaigrette (very good)

100_1594.jpg

and DH got the soup of the day, which was Chicken Tortilla soup. This was excellent. Lots of flavor with a little bit of heat. We really liked it.

100_1592.jpg

For our entrée DH and I decided to split the Pork Chop - Grilled Pork Chop with a Chipotle Barbecue Sauce with Macaroni and Cheese and Steamed Spinach. This was very tasty. I really enjoyed the sweet/savory sauce they had on the pork chop. Mac and Cheese and Spinach were good as well.

100_1599.jpg

For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. It was moist and tasty.

100_1600.jpg

The kids got the make your own ice cream sundae. DD got one with just sprinkles and chocolate because the chef was worried candy covered pieces (M&M looking candies) would have some cross contamination with nuts.

100_1603.jpg

100_1604.jpg

The rotating fan mechanism on the ceiling was really cool.

100_1586.jpg

Overall this was a very good meal and we would go there again. Service was excellent as well. We paid OOP for this meal and used our Tables in Wonderland Card and got a 20% discount.

Great food reviews! Just wondering how you liked the 1 bedroom at OKW??

:welcome: And thanks !! We LOVED OKW and the 1 BR was very spacious. There's TONS of OKW photos in my TR - link in my signature

The pork chop looks really yummy! And fun for the kids to make their own sundaes!!

It really was good. I would order it again for sure. The hidden gem in that meal was the Chicken Tortilla Soup. I was really surprised at how good it tasted. Very yummy. Yes, the kids liked those sundaes. And it gave them a reason to play with their food. :rotfl:

We had had a early breakfast at the resort, and our lunch ADR wasn’t until 1:30 PM. While we were waiting for our TSM fast pass time to open up, we decided to use some of our snack credits. DD and Dh each got a Mickey Ice Cream Bar

100_1768.jpg

100_1765.jpg

She’s a MESS !!
100_1769.jpg

DS got a frozen Coke

100_1766.jpg

And I got a Frozen Raspberry Lemonade

100_1767.jpg

These were YUMMY and so refreshing on a hot day.

We will definitely be getting these frozen goodies again !!

We had 1:30 ADR’s for Sci-Fi Dine-In. I was very excited about eating here. And I wish I could say that I got some awesome photos, but it was too dark and I didn’t want to be rude and use flash, so here are the best photos I could get.

100_1807.jpg

Yeah …. I know ….. lame.

We checked in and actually had to wait about 15 min. before we got seated. Jessie was our server and she was very cute and sweet and gave us very good service. It was very dark and hard to see the menu. Thankfully, I had researched it on Allears.net before we came, so I had a pretty good idea about what we should order. DH said we couldn’t see the menu at all.

DD ordered the kids macaroni and she didn’t like it at all. She said it wasn’t cheesy enough. She ate all of her fries though.

DS ordered a burger and some onion rings and he loved it.

DH and I split

The Reuben - Corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing on marble rye bread, served with a pickle spear and a choice of cucumber salad of french fries.

I really liked it. It wasn’t the best Rueben ever, but it was good and filling. They even split it up for us and gave us each a pickle.

We all had cokes or diet cokes to drink.

For dessert, DD got the ice cream sundae which she loved.

DS got a chocolate milkshake which he loved as well, but he was too full to finish it. He couldn’t finish his burger either, so it was good thing that DH and I split something so we each took a couple of bites of his burger and It was VERY good.

For our desert, DH and I ordered

A Sweet Ending To Your Celebration... Cheesecake - with raspberry sauce and treats

Which turned out to be more of a red velvet cake with a thick cheesecake icing It wasn’t what I was expecting it would be at all. It was OK. There wasn’t any taste in the red velvet part, but the cheesecake part was good. It just wasn’t what I was expecting when I order cheesecake.

Overall, we loved this restaurant and would definitely go back. The old 50’s movie clips and drive in movie decor were really fun. But if we went again ?? I would definitely order a burger.

Oh, and the food porn gets better, I promise !!

Those pics of your daughter cracked me up!! That frozen coke sounds really good!!

She is so funny. I just love taking pictures of her. She totally makes me laugh every single day. DS is pretty funny, too. But he sometimes gets tired of all of the photos I take. Those frozen drinks are soooo good. And when it is hot, they are so refreshing. I highly recommend one - or two !!

Great pictures -

I'm thinking its a good thing your dd didnt like apples with brown sugar - that might be the only way she'd eat them! (and yes, I'm speaking from experience... DD loves to put sugar in bowls to "dip" her apples in :confused3)

and after reading a trip report from someone who did use a flash in Sci fi :scared1: Be glad its dark in there!!

I'm in and loving your reviews so far. I was really disappointed in the cheesecake at Sci-fi in october. I read the description and thought it was going to be the popcorn covered lovely that I had seen on other reviews but it was the red velvet cheesecake and the worst dessert of our trip. Loved everything else about Sci-fi though and looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

We tried to tell her that she could just brush it off and it would be fine, but she is so superficial when it comes to food and won't eat anything that doesn't look perfect. We all like a good presentation of course, but I was wanting to get something healthy into her. DS ate his carrots and celery and shared some of his carrots with DD, so they got SOME decent vitamins in there, I guess. It's a constant struggle to get them to eat healthy.

I saw that photo you are speaking of. Dude, that was gross !! It kinda makes me not want to go back for sure. It was OK food wise. The atmosphere and those monumentally bad movies clips were fun, though.

I agree that the cheesecake was a disappointment. It was just ... kinda weird. I won't order it again. Thanks for reading and stopping by !!

Our dinner ADR was at Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge at 7:20 PM. I was very excited about this ADR because this is just the kind of food that DH likes.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge on my birthday trip back in January and it is an amazing resort. We loved staying there.

Approaching the Lodge

100_1818.jpg

The other side as we are approaching from the parking lot

100_1821.jpg

Inside – pictures don’t really do it justice – especially my bad photography.

100_1827.jpg

100_1828.jpg

I checked us in at the podium.

Wilderness_whispering_canyon_cafe.jpg

They gave me a buzzer and told me it would work anywhere in the lobby.
I took a couple more photos

100_1840.jpg

100_1843.jpg

And got some pins from their pin kiosk

100_1838.jpg

100_1833.jpg

100_1834.jpg

100_1835.jpg

DD wanted this one.

100_1837.jpg

Just then, our buzzer went off. We went to the podium. This restaurant is very loud, but we were seated in a quieter section. Next to us there was a table of ladies that were staying at Wilderness on DVC points, so we asked them a bunch of questions about DVC. They were so nice and we really enjoyed our talk with them. DH really got into the discussion about DVC which got me really excited.

Our server’s name was Bob, but his nickname was Geppetto. You can see why

100_1850.jpg

He was very sassy and fun.

I had another Magical Star Cocktail to start

Magical Star Cocktail - Light up your celebration with X-Fusion Organic Mango and Passion Fruit Liqueur, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Pineapple Juice, and a souvenir Multicolored Glow Cube $10.50

100_1847.jpg

I can see why the kids like the glow cubes so much. They make me happy, too !!

DH had another margarita

Grand Canyon Margarita - Gran Centanario Plata Tequila, Cointreau, and Sour Mix $10.25

100_1849.jpg

It was huge and DH had a little trouble finishing it. But he did.

DD got a Chocolate shake

100_1848.jpg

And DS just got a coke.

DD wanted chicken nuggets, but they weren’t on the menu. Geppetto heard us discussing this and he told us he could get her some nuggets if that is what she wanted. This made me and DD very happy. I didn't get a direct photo of her food, but everyone knows what chicken nuggets look like. She really enjoyed her meal.

DH, DS and I decided on the skillet.

All You Care To Enjoy $28.99 per person

Smoked Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork, Oven-roasted Chicken, Beef Brisket, Mashed Potatoes, Cowboy Beans, and Corn on the Cob Mixed Greens Salad with Apple Vinaigrette, Coleslaw, and Fresh-baked Cornbread

First they brought out cornbread

100_1849.jpg

It was as yummy as everyone says it is.

And then some salad

100_1851.jpg

Very fresh and good.

And then the skillet

100_1854.jpg

DH was in heaven. He loves this kind of food.…. It was all good.

We ate as much as we could, but the three of us barely put a dent in that skillet.

And since we were on the dining plan we still had dessert coming.

DD had her chocolate shake so she was good. DH was stuffed so he ordered something light

No Sugar Added Seasonal Berry Dome - with Chocolate Ice Cream $6.99

100_1858.jpg

He loves berries and he really enjoyed this. I think he had vanilla ice cream though instead of chocolate.

DS ordered the chocolate cake

A Sweet Ending to Your Celebration . . . Kahlúa-flavored Chocolate Cake - with Chocolate Mousse Filling and Fudge Icing $7.99

100_1857.jpg

We all had a bite. It was VERY good. It was moist, chocolate-y goodness. Just what you want in a chocolate cake. I couldn't really taste the Kahlua at all. He was too full to finish it though.

Me ?? I’m a chocolate girl. Since DS had already ordered the Chocolate cake, I ordered the S’mores Cheesecake

S'mores Cheesecake - New York-style Cheesecake on a Graham Cracker Crust topped with Chocolate Ganache and Marshmallows $6.99

100_1856.jpg

This was the best dessert of the whole trip. Or at least a solid tie with the one I had at California Grill. DD tried a bite and went crazy over it. Even though we were all stuffed, there wasn’t a bite of that cheesecake left. DD still talks about how good it was and how she can't wait to go back get some more.

Super yummy !!

We all enjoyed this restaurant immensely and will definitely be back !!

We went back to OKW and fell into a food coma for the rest of the night. :lmao::rotfl:
