Where is everyone finding the best deals?.....My son is in middle school this year and I am so afraid Im going to have to pay 60 plus dollars for supplies, his list is LOOOOOOONNNNNG!

Have you tried Staples? I know they always have awesome deals supposedly. We dont have one near us, so we always end up at Wal Mart or Target. I went to Wal Mart last week and a small bottle of Elmers glue was $1.40!! Crazy! Boxes of 24 count Crayola crayons were $1.20! Nuts! Went to Target over the weekend and their prices seemed more reasonable.

Good luck...hope you find some good deals!

If it makes you feel better, the prepackaged deal my kids school is offering is almost $200. I'll pass!!

For sale items, the office supply stores have the best deals (Office Depot and Staples). If you have a Walgreen's near you, they have a few good items each week but like the office supply stores, you will be going back multiple times. For "regular" price items, Walmart and Target seem to have decent prices.

Another idea for next year is save your empty ink cartridges and return them to a store (like Staples) that gives you $2 store credit for each empty one. That will help offset the cost of school supplies.

My son hits middle school this year. Each student pays $25 and supplies their own paper and pencil. Thats it.

I wish all schools made it this easy.

I have been hitting up yard sales for supplies this summer. I have found so far : messenger type book bag, 3 different scientific calculators (one is even a graphing calculator too!) and pencils.

My son starts high school this year, and I know different supplies will be needed (such as a scientific calculator).

Toys R Us has BOG2 crayola this week. Check out CouponingtoDisney.com. She posts awesome deals on her blog everyday.

I know every year Old Navy has backpacks and lunch bags on sale just before Back to school so I wait for that sale. Paper I watch the flyers but Walmart often has it for 25 cents just before back to school. I buy as much as I can at the dollar store. They have crayola pencil crayons and all kinds of goodies for $1

Best deal? Re-use as much as you can from last year. Need colored pencils? Unless the box from last year is down to nubs under 3", there is still A LOT of use left in them. Markers? Have a contest to see who can find the most markers that are still good enough to use. I *LOVE* school supply shopping (seriously- it could be an illness... I can't walk into that section of WalMart or Target this time of year without walking out with something I don't need. When niece was in the 7th grade, we sat down and talked about everything she needed and went to see if she had any of the items from last year. And she did. She had MOST of it. She needed kleenex, hand sanitizer and paper... and about 1/2 of the 3 prong folders on the list (she had a few that were still usable). It really did become a game to see how much we could find that she could still use again. I loved spending that time with her and her mom was glad to pay less than $15 for school supplies (I think she did end up with a new backpack later in the year when hers died...)

for the mommas dot com has a school supply deal list, just click the box on the upper right that says school supply deals. They are listed by store so you can choose the stores near you.

Ours is only 80.00 from the school!

Our need the scientific calculator in school to but the schools have to provide them- there was some kind of lawsuit brought on the schools and they ruled that if they wanted them to use an item that is that expensive they had to provide it for the students. If they lose it you must pay for it but they have to provide them.

Wow I have never heard of schools putting together packages of school supplies. That takes all the fun out of it! I LOVE buying school supplies, but the cheaper the better. What happened to all the good deals! Staples has a few but to get 2 packs of pens for a penny you have to spend $5.00. Thank goodness we are stocked from last year so the lists will be small this year! Good luck

What?! there better be a mani pedi, massage with that deal:rotfl2:

I KNOW!!! I'm going to do what I did last year. First, check what she already has (scissors, flash drive, etc). Then I'm going to hit up Dollar Tree for as much as possible (paper towels, hand sanitizer, etc) & then watch the deals at Target, Wal-Mart & Staples. I'm sure I can get it under $150, if not $100.

My daughters list isn't as bad now in Jr High as it was in grade school! She no longer needs sanitizer, tissues etc! If they do ask for tissues and the kids bring them in they do get extra credit!

This year she needs-

4- 1.5 inch binders- one blue, one red, one yellow and one green
2 packs looseleaf paper
3 packages of dividers
pens
#2 pencils
Index cards
9x12 sketchbook
ticonderoga pencils for art
white eraser
5 pocket folders- all different colors
3 composition notebooks
2 cloth (no paper please) textbook covers
post it notes
highlighter
white-out
trapper keeper
12x18 portfolio
1 spiral notebook
combination lock (girls only, boys lockers have them built in)

thats it for this year!

I have a copy of what each of my kids needs, I carry it around w/ me. I go thru my stockpile (yeah its pretty decent) and check off what I have. Then I scour the deals on Sunday or whenever and run in the store to grab stuff at super cheap prices. This week Office Depot has notebook paper, 150 sheets for 25¢ a pack, limit 5, also have 24 pack Crayolas for 25¢. Can't beat it! Between Staples, OD, Target, Walmart, I will find everything I need in the next few weeks. Also as someone else mentioned check out the deal blog gals - couponingtodisney.com, deal seeking mom, and totallytarget.com are some faves! Good luck! oh yeah, and my girls are using their still almost perfect backpacks from last year.

Watch the inexpensive filler paper, it's often 8 x 10 1/2, not 81/2 x 11. If that works for your school/student that's great, but our schools specifically request 8 1/2 X 11.

For the Staples deals requiring a $5 minimum purchase, buy the copy paper with the rebate, it covers the $5 minimum, but you get most of your money back.

Target and Walmart usually have $.25 crayons, glue, pencils, etc. starting the last week of July or first week of August in my area (TX). I was in Walmart yesterday and noticed Elmer's glue was $.40.

I just got a scientific calculator at Menards for .99 after rebate. Not the higher level graphing kind but he is going into 7th grade.
